Borg Warner T04E17 questions
In my quest for a cheap new turbo I stumbled on a new Borg Warner T04E17 p/n 171443 (was too cheap to pass up). Compressor wheel inducer: 55.1mm, Compressor wheel exducer: 75mm, and Turbine wheel exducer: 64.5mm. See pictures.
It appears to be the exact same specs as a Garrett t04E 54 trim with a P trim turbine wheel. Would the compressor have the same flow map? See attached for the Garrett 54 trim with my targets. I could live with a 54 trim, but would like a 60 trim. Can I upgrade to Garrett 60 trim wheel? Will my Garrett 57 trim cover fit the 54 trim wheel?
The turbo came with a huge 1.15 a/r turbine housing with a 4 inch v-band. Would P-trim Garret turbine housings work? I would like a undivided .8-1.0 to match my manifold.

So I got word from G-pop that is the exact same map as the Garrett. Apparently Borg Warner cloned Garrett’s design. They also said I could upgrade to standard 60 trim wheel and cover.
I got the turbo on E-bay auction from http://www.htturbo.com/. Got lucky and picked it up for $165 shipped. They did not have any for sale on there web site. Looks like they do upgrades and diesel turbos.
I'll be selling the turbine housing for cheap so let me know if you are looking for a 1.15 a/r housing for a P-trim wheel with a huge V-band.
I'm picking up a .96 housing from G-pop as get paid.

Step further
So I took the time and modeled a 13BT on the compressor map. In my first attempt I modeled full boost (15 PSI) at 3500. It put me over the surge point of the compressor map. I looked at all of the standard rotary compressors (t04Es, T04Bs, T04S, T66, T70) and it did the same. The GT35R was the only one that had a surge limit low enough to catch full boost at 3500 rpm.
I redid the model with actual boost numbers with my data logs. I will be running the same A/R turbine and the 54 trim compressor is very similar to the 57 trim I was running. The results were much better. I am above 70% efficiency from 3250 - 9000 rpm. I believe this to be fairly realistic.
So I already had done the hard math so I put together the estimated power map (assumed 15% drivetrain losses). I attached the data just in case someone cares.
