^^ is that 67mm worth it? I have a s475 and was thinking about going with the 67 sx. Ok am I confused! I heard it started its life as a 70+mm turbo that they custom machine down to the 67mm inducer. The front cover is larger than my s475.... so what kinda trickery are they using. I also wanted to try the billet wheel from bullseye, the 7 blade one, or the Batmo wheel version.:-)
What's ur opinion on that!

Both inducer and exducer are smaller than 70+mm wheels, so I believe this wheel has its own aero and design. It was made with purpose to outflow any other 67mm wheel coupled with bigger turbine flow than competition.

Now some facts. Its using same turbine wheel as you currently have - 83mm, but in 1.1 A/R T4 housing. Your housing is so-called T6 but when you compare it to true T6, you can see transition to smaller turbine volute, so basically you are more restricted with 0.8 A/R.

On the compressor side, well, 67mm FMW wheel is rated at 94 lbs/min, 75mm of 475 is rated over 98 lbs/min. Of course, whole map is shifted to the right with bigger wheel so in the midrange, you would be more efficient with smaller wheel, in top end with bigger.

By reading your build thread, you are going for 600 rwhp and surely, these are more than capable of it, honestly, I would say oversized. Question is, if smaller compressor would be superior in any aspect given the fact, that it is powered by same turbine wheel.

FWIW it would be nice to see s467 maxxed out on rotary

Well, if you arenīt operating on the edge of the compressor capabilities, you probably wonīt see any benefit. But since we donīt have flow maps of these, its just guessing.

I got a s372 w/ the race cover, my engine will be a semi peripheral port like stated in the first post, everything still the same just different turbo

Absolutely, if it works for your setup and goals. The compressor wheel is a brand new design and its a full billet wheel rather than a cast. The wheel is the same as what is used in the 9180 so it will make great power, easily rivaling any other 67mm turbo out there. The turbo comes standard with the race cover for best performance, because its designed for class racing so they wanted the ultimate flow to match the compressor. Same reason the 83mm turbine is used rather than the 79mm.

Personally, I would use the true BW factory turbo. Its better priced, is easily replaced (in the event of a failure), and is BW quality.

Correct.

Islander, if you are planning for 600-650whp the S400SX 67mm would be a great choice. Efficient and powerful enough to make the power for making serious power, but not so large it incurs crazy lag.

I think that some of the failures have been due to improper setups, primarily oil supply and drain. Oil inlet restrictors (external) are used with Garrett, Precision, and Turbonetics turbos so it would be understandable to assume the same goes for the EFR. However, the EFR has an internal restrictor that is a design of the bearing housing. If someone switches to the EFR from another brand DBB turbo and the restrictor is swapped, big problems will happen.

A member on the EvoM forum had one turbo fail, and the second is likely going as well. The first turbo could have been a failure with installation, use, or simply defective from the factory. If the tuning was specific to a turbo that didnt work correctly and a new one was installed with no adjustments, its asking for trouble. Not really the tuners fault, its just the name of the game, things happen.

The S400SX 67mm is a very nice turbo
