ball&spring instead of solenoid/stepper
hey everyone..on my all ever quest to find the perfect boost controller for my single turbo, i think im tired trying different electronic boost controllers trying to get near perfect stable boost..ive tried all the name brands stepper and solenod units..while the HKS EVC seems to work the best for me i still get slight spikes on inital boost up which eventually settles down... im thinking of trying the turbo xs dual stage or the "halllman" ball&spring (boostcontroler.com) anyone have any experiences with either boost controller on the there external wastegates??
BTW: ive had this problem with all my different turbo kits/wastegates..even with the HKS GT wastegate

This is the boost controller that I will be trying. This setup is very similar to what my friends used in the late 80s early 90s before good electronic boost controllers were readily available and affordable. My project is now running and I set up a dyno date with XS for the 14Th. I am stile looking for am electric solenoid so I will be able to run 2 different boost settings. ( haven't had any luck yet )
I am also breaking my engine in now - Meaning I am not trying to make boost. This is very difficult almost impossible with the way I set up my RX6. I ported the exhaust turbine housing and then had it extrude honed. I did a bunch of other sht too. So we will see the outcome. "I will post when I get my numbers."
Personally I think electronic boost controllers are the way to go now adays. ( They have come a long way since I have played with turbos in the early 90s.)

I just replaced my Hallman with a Blitz Dual SBC on my non-seq engine. The reason, boost spiking around 4500 rpm when boost was increased from 12psi to 14psi. I tried different bleeder jet sizes but it did not help.
Unfortunately, the Blitz had to be returned because it was defective. As soon as boost went above 1psi, the unit would turn off. Go figure that????
If you want it, $50, contact me.

Hmm..mitch you're having problems with the evc pro?
I have the evc IV SE...i hope i dont have too many issues with it!!
My friend uses it in his t51 powered supra and didnt seem to have spiking until he was over 25psi and at that point it was about 1lb over, sometimes under.

yeah but those guys have a stepper clutch to put all that power to the ground. once your making really big power you should have an electronic boost controller so you can control boost per gear and per rpm. it'll help you out a lot w/ traction.
