any downsides to the GT35/40?
hey every1,
im currently planning and saving for a single turbo kit for a winter project...i plan on auto crossing and this is my daily driver. Ive been told i can make 400hp on stock porting with a GT35/40...but i was wondering if there are any downsides to that setup, cuz from all i hear it sounds almost too good to be true. plmk
thanx,
-Zach

Two that I am aware of:
The CHRA is not rebuildable... if you mess it up, you fork over another $900 for a new one. But then again, I've only heard of 1 that was ruined... ever... that' s a pretty good track record.
Two, it is a T3 turbine... Divided T4 is better, but then again this one seems to work ok... but certainly isn't idea IMHO...

The turbo is rebuildable if it were to get damaged, the only drawback I can see is if you were looking for a all out drag car, as for as for a street/strip driven machine there is really no downside to this turbo. You will generally see between 410-440@15lbs around 33-3400rpm, in a 2780lb car thats more than any practical person needs on the street and certainly more than enough to get you in over your head.

btw, what is a gt-70? and a-spec i am really impressed with the kits you guys put together...what would it cost me for a complete gt-35/40 kit that i could install in my garage? excluding the custom IC piping id need of course. What would it all include?

T3 is fine for the street and provides very quick spool time (with associated turbines).
T4 will allow more flow, but you may see more spool time due to the larger footprint and associated turbines.
It's very application dependent. You cannot just say one footprint is better than the other.
If you want to drag or highway race, maybe you're better off with a bigger turbo. If you rather road race, you may really hate a large turbo as the peakiness isn't ideal for tight courses.

its a daily driver, with the occasional road course and autoX, once i get my SCCA license. My final goal for the car power-wise is 400hp. Would the gt35-40 be the best turbo for that application?
