Question 500 rwhp goal: Which turbo???

Hey fellas, I'm planning to go single turbo on my '93 this year. Basically I want a daily-driver with 475-500 (ish) rwhp. @ 22+ PSI. My question is which turbo setup should I go with?? I've seriously been looking at the GReddy T-78 kit, but I'm also considering doing something custom like a KKK or a Garrett Ball Bearing GT Series setup. What do you guys think??? Remember, it's daily-driven, so spool up should be reasonable. I know it'll lag, but I don't feel like counting seconds for my car to get power Thanks in advanced!

The T-78 will make that power at those boost levels with race gas..Last week a friend of mine made 540 rwhp with a T-78 on a streetported motor...It will pull 430-450 all day long on pump gas with correct tunning..

Thanks for the suggestions guys! How much does the GT3540 go for? I know since it's ball bearing it won't be cheap! I'm looking for the ability to make about 500rwhp on PUMP gas (93 octane). While for daily driving, I'll lower the boost so I'll have about 425-450ish rwhp. I'm also considering a water/alcohol injection unit to come on when I/C output temps reach a certain level. What do you guys think about that? Where would I put a tank to hold the water/alcohol? Thanks again!

500 RWHP will be quite the task. I blew an apex seal on my 7 at 15 psi on pump gas (at 15 psi I have 401 RWHP). I run a t-78, haltech E6k, ALL the goodies AND it was tuned by Rotory Performance. If you can hit 500 hp on pump gas I want to know how.

I bought mine from Tim @ RPM Performance Centre, in South Australia for about $1600 US including shipping. Cheapest besides that was Magnus who quoted me $2000 US. Every other place I've found they go for around $2600-2800...for just the turbo!

If your serious about the Garrett GT units then give Tim a call. www.rpmperformancecentre.com.au the phone # is on his page.

I'm not going to turn this thread into a flame war wankawankel, but yeah my car is "stock" and runs 16's...

Oh and I didn't mention this before but from what I hear I think ErnieT is getting great performance out of his KKK, so either that or the maybe try the HKS turbo they mentioned..

GotBoostd7, I checked out their site. The price they have listed for the GT 35/40 is $3000! That probably doesn't include shipping. Did you get a hookup price or something? Also, where can I get more info on KKK single setups?? I've heard good things about them. But I remember not long ago Ray Lochead (www.srx7.com) got flamed a bunch at the forum because he had a 500+ rwhp "package" that included a KKK turbo. What do you guys know about KKKs? Can I get them with Ball bearings too? Thanks again!

Ray didn't get flamed. The information on his website has been updated and is the real deal. My turbo spools faster than the T-78 and has the same or better top end. This spring when I blow 10's sec. right by, you be the judge. I was running around 13psi when I went 11.22..........Imagine when Im tuned w/ the Haltech instead of the POS Power fc running 17-18psi.........

zro_piston, that was probably in $AU. The conversion rate is pretty decent. Just do a search for exchange rate on yahoo or something to get the current rate. So Garrett is now releasing their "full" ball bearing turbos (not one bb and a plain bearing on the other side, but at both ends) to the public outside of HKS? What sort of manifold is needed to run it? I know FEED has one ($$$) but do any of the HKS units have the appropriate flange?

Those KKK units are expensive! Ernie, do you have the stage 1 or 2?? That sounds awesome! But is it okay for daily driving for around 425-450hp? How much power does your setup make anyway? That Garrett GT 35/40 setup sounds really nice too. What information do you guys have about that? Also, who can custom make me a manifold and downpipe? Thanks for all the help guys!

Haha, zro_piston...yeah that $3000 is in Australian dollars man! You think the Aussies are gonna list prices in USD? As of this mornings exchange rate, the turbo, including shipping to Auburn (near Seattle) WA cost $1751 George Washington's. And these are the newest Garrett GT series units. Full ball bearing on the hot and cold side.

As for the manifold it uses a 4-bolt flange.
