4 and 5" muffler options
From people who have had to build systems with larger than normal exhaust (4 or even 5") Were you able to find a muffler combination that at the very least kept the raspy rotary sound to a minimum?
Ive been looking at things like http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku or other diesel mufflers, however cant seem to find anything thats baffled at all thats smaller, as i would have to run that as a presildenser, hwoever all the pipe after it would probably act as a mega phone and id be back to square one
i dont want to run a cat as i have seen first hand what 1800+ post turbine egt's did to my last setsups randomtec cat
i know keeping this setup quiet is out of the question, i just dont want it to crackle like i have a feeling its going to

3" exhaust and I use 2 mufflers. It's still lighter than the stock exhaust. But I'd definitely sacrifice a little weight for a quieter sound. magnaflow will custom make a muffler for you, for a nominal fee.

Have you looked at the Burns UltraLite mufflers? I've seen/heard them on some Supras with 5" exhausts. I don't about "quiet", but it was pretty tame for a 1400 whp Supra. ![Smilie](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Geez...with piping that size, there sure isn't much room for muffling material is there. Looking at the Rotaflo line, with a 3.5" or 4" making over 700RWHP in some crazy Rx3, 5" may be a bit overkill...oven on GT42R's...

From the ausrotary site...
"Also of note, as part of the on going testing with George and Rocky at Pac Performance, George has just informed me that the RF300 is capable of flowing enough exhaust volume to support 790RWHP, as this what one of the cars fitted with our mufflers just made on their dyno, you have to be happy with that."

i'll see what pics i can find on the shop computer... the cool thing about 5" exhaust is that it's already so deep and less raspy you really are only using the mufflers to well.... somewhat quiet it down so really you could use any brand you want hahaha. just go to a big drag event and look at all the turbo rotaries with just 5" dump tubes off the turbo's sounding just flat out amazing! and at idle they aren't even that damn loud!!!
now on the 2step it's another story

This place sells 4" oval, says they'll do custom as well. So, you might want to ask for some 5" oval

I have a 4" that will actually be quiet. I had it on there while I was still n/a breaking in the motor and it was very deep for an n/a. I used a couple magnaflows and blew them out within weeks... My current setup is a 4" downpipe then splits into a dual 3" muffler (cross section is slightly larger than 4") then goes back to 4 to run to the rear of the car where there is a very large dual 3" muffler. Both mufflers I built myself since I couldn't find anything that would fit just right and also to ensure that they would not blow out.
The problem with using a 4" or especially 5" muffler is that the exhaust diameter is so large that little exhaust gases will be muffled by the packing material since there is so little restriction.
