compression test with motor out of the car

is there a way to get a compression test done with the motor out of the car? What are some tell tail signs that a motor is bad.

You need to attach a bell housing or trans and a starter. Looking in the exhaust ports tells you if there is rust or shattered apex seals. If the engine does not rotate at all that is tell tail.

Which bellhousings are separable and ideal for use in a test for a 13B like this?

TII bell housing..has a separate bell from trans.
the N/A trans has a integrated bell housing/casing..so it doesn't separate.

By the way IF the engine has or had any oil in it then be prepared for when the engine rolls over and spews oil from the Line outlets..It will get messy!

Bah, no kidding. I keep forgetting I'm the weird one out here:

(ignore the lack of an eccentric shaft or flywheel, lulz)

So presumably you'd need to also source a TII flywheel and starter to suit if you're testing an NA engine
