One thing I do know for sure.... it ain't gonna be $300. At least not from us.

I have a few questions. Did the Rotary Extreme version come with a lip or is that a REAL 99 spec lip everyone is rocking? The lip would make the part extra complex, further increasing the cost.

Can't beat oem.
$300 is for dreamers anyway. Keep it within the normal price range of front bumpers and I think you'll sell a bunch. RE didnt seem to have any issues selling theirs, AND it didnt fit well in many cases. Imagine if it DID fit well. All the people that buy 99 front bumpers would likely buy the one that fit well without the plate holder...

Hey,

I understand wanting to go OEM because of fitment , but I think the biggest reason you should want to go with the OEM is because it is polyurathane, not fiberglass. Fiberglass will crack, the paint will 'spiderweb' easier and will overall probably not hold up as well as the OEM product. Theres a reason why most car companies go with poly bumpers and not fiberglass...

I'd prefer to pay around $400-$450 for it, but if it's more I'll pay it IF IT'S GOOD.

Pettit racings does not accurately match the oem '99 year front bumper without a plate so I don't want it.

Make one that is DEAD ON PERFECT (unlike pettit racings.. ) and I'll pretty much pay whatever you sell it for if you make it soon, since I need a front bumper within a few weeks.

Like this is how one SHOULD look. Pettit racings looks like it comes out too far, or is too pointy, and the top middle of it looks more bubbly than it's supposed to be, and the pillers between the air dams don't look as defined as their supposed to be. I'm not exactly sure what's off about the pettit racing one, but it isn't an exact copy without a plateholder like I'm looking for. :/

I'd pay a good deal really if it's good quality and it looks exactly like the oem one minus the plate holder. :/

Material doesn't matter to me, thought flexible FRP would be nice.

The RE one doesn't look right. Neither does pettits. Both of them go to like a point right above the airdam, instead of being more flat just above the airdam, among otherthings..

THIS does look right. It's probably another photoshop though. :/

plateless dilemma..

I am definitely up for one made with a flex fiberglass material. None of the aftermarket ones fit well (I have had them all) but at least with FRG you can shape them. Now if it were flexible and shapeable that would truly solve the problem.
I agree with Zaque comments above. If you do make it, please not as pointy as Pettit's or RE's version. Let's see how gifted a mold maker we can get and have this made right for once!

8. Zach S. (Zaque)

Make it accurate, unlike pettits and RE's, and I'll buy one pretty much whatever the price is assuming it's resonable.
Otherwise i'm going to be making my own.

Hey guys,

This is my take on this. I think one of the biggest problems is replicating off a urethane bumper. Because urethane is a thermoform, it expands and contracts to heat levels. During the mold making process, heat is released to cure. The shape of the part being replicated can change at the time, this affecting the mold as well. That is my assumption.

Several months ago, we replicated an Impul front bumper for a G35 that was made from urethane. Didn't turn out too well.

I cannot gaurantee we can do this project and make the final product PERFECT. If it was me personally, I would get a real 99 spec bumper and have a shop get rid of the plate with some custom work.

I think there's little room for error in a limited market, with a great alternative.

I don't think we have enough experience with urethane bumpers to approach this project the way you guys want. Perhaps, this is the reason why the aftermarket ones are no good as well???

Why not use the Pettit fiberglass 99 plateless one as a mold instead of the RE one. That way you are not messing with urethane. The biggest problem for me with taking an OEM one and making it plateless is that eventially the plate will end up either cracking or warping. Take a close look at rotary performances modified plateless and you will see what I mean. Urethane just is to hard to fill and working with patch panels.
