yea bring it down. we will take a look at it. my dad used to co-own a body shop in Florida, so I know a little bit. I can at least give you some tips. I would say you can easily do the sanding. Bondo isn't that hard if it is small dents, though it is always better if you can pull them and use as little bondo/filler as possible.
I thought all the damage was cosmetic(ie fenders, bumpers, etc) I didnt know there was damage underneath; that bites.
anyhow, see you at the meet.

Last week, on like Tuesday, I was backing out of a space at Wake Tech, and some idiot kid driving his mom's volvo came zipping behind me and I backed into him!
There's not a DAMN thing wrong with my car (thank God), but because of where it hit the Volvo, they have to get a new bumper, and some other mouldings and crap... which totals up to $1500 damage. Since I'm a new driver, we arranged with the kid's mom to not get insurance involved, and agreed to pay the damages. They went to three different places to get quotes, and the cheapest was $1500. We didn't even spend THAT much on my CAR! I wish it was the other way around and there was nothing wrong with their car, and there was damage to mine, cuz I know enough of y'all would have parts I could buy off y'all to fix her.
The only thing that is really wrong with her now, is the paint is chipping big time where the rear bumper gave way during the collision. Nothing broke, dented, cracked, etc. GRRR... Anyway, dad's been working on my car this week, and my muffler system is FINALLY back on and intact, he put on the emissions pump, and he fixed my freakin horn. Drove her today, and she drove SO nicely. If she were a pet, she would have earned a treat! NOW, I just gotta get her inspected within the next couple of days, so I won't have to sneaky-sneak around cops anymore.
I am pretty ticked now, though, because when I find a job, I have to pay my parents back for the car repairs, so my first $1500 goes towards THAT, rather than a few other odds and ends my FC needs.
Oh well. C'est la vie.

Hey guys, I won't be able to make it out this weekend to the meet. I have to go home to charlotte to take care of a couple things. Hope everyone has fun at the meet. The car is progressing but as long as the turbo kit is not here I can only go so far. Ashraf has put the engine and tranny back in as of earlier this week I think. Hopefully the car will be up and running by the meet at the end of the month but it might not be ready till the first meet in March. Oh yeah this is SizzlerUSAF by the way, changed my name.

*GASP* women and partying over an RX7 meet?
Are you trying to stock up for when you are away? If so, I wouldn't worry a lot of my buds got more, how should I put this nicely, "late night female companionship" while in the service than they would have ever gotten in civilian life. However, what you won't get are rotaries and RX7s.
The meet starts at 5pm (17:00) and goes til whenever.

Well, she is coming back together, all the final pieces should be in on Friday. It shouldn't be long before she is back in the car. I suspect about another 2 weeks, maybe 3 just be on the safe side, because I still haven't decided on a clutch, I need an exhaust, and a EMS.

FYI - THSCC will be up at VIR this weekend and the weather is predicted to cooperate, for once! Anyone who's toyed with the idea of getting on track might want to consider driving up for the day and checking out the scene. It's about and hour and a quarter drive up from N. Raleigh. Without being registered for the event, you won't be able to drive at speed, but you can get a sense of what it's all about, meet some nice folks and see some cool cars.
If you're there for parade laps (12-1 Sat, 11-12 Sun), might be able to catch a ride with some of us. www.virclub.com has good maps/directions to the site. I'll have my Spec Miata there (red # 62), blue E-Z Up, and black Excursion tow vehicle - find me in the paddock if you come up.

No biggie - you'll have to sign a waiver of liability at the guard station and get a wristband to get onto the property (a VIR requirement) - no access fee. Any problems, just tell them you're there with me (Marvin McBride) for the Tarheel Sports Car Club driving school. You can spectate as much as you want, will have access to the canteen, restrooms, etc.
If you are there as a prospective THSCC member or prospective future HPDE attendee, I expect (can't promise) we could get you on track at least during parade laps - not sure whether you can drive or would have to ride. To go on the track itself, you'll need to sign a THSCC waiver and get another armband. You won't be allowed to go out "at speed" (even as a passenger of an instructor) without being registered for the event as a student or instructor.
First car off is at 8:30, then there will be different run groups rotating on/off track during 30 minute sessions all day, with the following exceptions: Lunch/quiet hour 12:15-1:15 on Sat, 11-12 on Sun. Time trials 3:45 - 5:30 both days. Parade laps are only specifically listed on the schedule for 11:15 - 11:45 on Sunday, but usually happen on Sat during lunch as well.
Feel free to call my cell with any questions (919.414.7565) I'll probably be too busy to be answering my cell phone Sat or Sun, but will check it from time to time for messages.
Another thought - if you want to make a day of it, you could spend some time on the VIR go-kart track along with checking out the HPDE event. You'd want to confirm with VIR that the go-kart track is open/available for that day - contact info is on the web site.

ARGH more bad news guys. I have an electrical problem from the accident. My battery, which is about a month old, keeps dying. When I tried to start it the day after the accident I appeared to have no power at all--not even the dash would turn on when I put the key in. So I jumped it, thinking everything was ok and I had just left something on all night. The car started and I let it run for a while to charge the battery up, and I even made sure it would start again after I turned it off. Then I drove back to school
This morning though I had the same problem. I'm going to jump it Saturday (Happy birthday to me) and take it to autozone to get the battery and alternator tested. If those turn out to be ok my dad's going to help me check for a bad ground or a short circuit, which is what I suspect happened due to the impact. I'll probably stop by the Char Grill but be in a Corolla most likely.
