I like the one where the mount it in the cigarette lighter. It is a piece of plexiglass glued onto a metal slug that is the right size. It puts the commander right in the line of site. https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/custom-pfc-commander-holder-my-cheapest-mod-377345/

Really, the whole damn commander is so ugly and cheap looking. I am sure it could be condensed if Apexi wanted to, but I suppose as long as we keep buying 'em they aren't going to do anything to change.

I have been playing with the idea of separating the lcd from the keypad. If you have ever opened it up the unit is essentially two boards and it is soldered together with about a dozen pins; they hold the two boards together as well as communicate the info. I think it would be easy enough to desolder the connections and add a length of wire. This and a couple of boxes would all the the, now much smaller, LCD to be mounted out in the open, and the keypad to be hidden somewhere that is fairly accessible, but out of site.

That is something I might play with in spring once everything is back together, and I am tackling the interior. Can anyone say tan to black? Actually, on that note I have a question for everyone. I am tossing around two ideas for the seats.

I have thought about going with racing seats(sparcos, brides, etc) or having the leather redone in a charcoal/graphite color.

Here are my pros and cons for both decisions.

Racing Seats
Pros: Better support, instant street cred/bling for having expensive seats
Cons: Custom fab rails, limited selection due to fitment issues, maybe too over the top for a street/occasional track car?

Leather
Pros: Easy install/fit, in charcoal it will still add originality to the car, nice leather feel, looks more classy.
Cons: Factory seats offer OK support, but not great

Anyhow, just looking for opinions.

Oh I meant the actually PFC ECU, not the commander. I agree that the commander is ugly as sin but it is tolerable, having the ECU on the floor is even more ugly though and I would like to fix it.

Rob,

I have seen some guys just velcro it in the stock location. I drilled it and used the factory brackets. You have to cut out the hole for the commander and use shorter screws, but other than that it is easy.

If you wanna give it a try let me know and I will give you more detailed instructions, though, you can probably figure it out on your own. it isn't rocket science.

Yeah, I thought thats what some people did. Haven't really had the car to look at and think of a way to mount it since it has been over at Ashraf's since like october. Didn't know if people had any special way of putting it up or not, I will just think up my own way. (If I have trouble I will let you know)

Some of you may have noticed a new thread I made looking for a fender. Saturday night I was adjusting my brake booster pushrod to reduce pedal travel. I lengthened it a bit too much and the brakes were dragging, so much that I couldn't move my car out from in front of my house. I had the car in neutral and it wouldn't move at all. I think I stepped out to take a phone call and forgot to pull the parking brake up. Then I borrowed my dad's car and left the house, intending to fix the brakes the next day. An hour later I got a call telling me that the car had rolled down the hilll, knocked down a mail box, uprooted some bushes, and dented the bumper on my neighbor's truck.

The driver's side fender and bumper in the front need to be replaced, and alot of the paint is scratched. I put a call into Bert's friend for getting the body work done and now I need to find the parts. I'm considering an S5 bumper if I can get a good deal on one, but otherwise I will just buy an S4 bumper from one of Steve's parts cars. I'm considering a Turbo II hood too depending on my financial situation after the insurance check and whether I can find one. My original hood was undamaged. In fact, I was lucky I got away with so little damage in all.

ray, a friend of steve's and i has a TII hood he is trying to sell. i've got his cell number so you can call him if needed. i think he wants like 200 for it. steve probably has his house number. anyways, i got my racing beat exhaust on my car friday. its a tad too quiet for my taste, i can barely hear it running. im thinking the ss autochrome exhaust because its 3in turbo back and single outlet. i like it a lot on steves brothers car so i have a racing beat NA exhaust for sale if anyone is interested...

Dave, once I talk to the insurance adjustor and get an idea of what my budget will be I will decide if I can afford the T2 hood. Would you happen to have a driver's side front fender in good condition? Would your friend, or would a junk yard car around here have one? If anyone has any leads I'd appreciate it. I'd rather not have to spend $texas to get one shipped. As it is I may end up buying a brand new mirror unless someone knows of someone with an s4 driver side aero mirror.

Guys I'm looking for another 2nd Gen RX-7, no it's not for me . My girlfriend is interested in getting one. So I'm looking for a 2nd Gen, I can fix stuff but I don't want to have to pull the engine out, body should be alright same with interior, remember things are fixable, anything below like $2500 would be great. Anybody got anything or know anybody?

Alright guys here's the latest update on my little mishap. The insurance adjustor rated the damages to be $1370, so with my $100 deductible I have around $1270 to get the car fixed. I really could have gotten more money but I told him that I didn't want a junk title so he managed to keep it under the $1500 mark which would have been considered totalled. In NC, if your damages are 75% of the standard value of your vehicle the car is declared totalled and given a junk title. This would obviously make it tougher for me to sell the car if it ever comes to that.

So after buying parts I expect to have around $1000 left. When I talked to the guy Bert recommended on the phone today he said full bodywork would probably be around $2000 including parts. I'm going to have to haggle with him and perhaps settle for lower quality paint or a little less prep work or something, plus kick in some of my own money. I really want to get the whole car repainted though because there are big scratches on the driver side now and the car already had some surface rust on it that I've pretty much repaired myself. A T2 hood is definately not happening now.

I'll keep everyone updated. I may come to the drive-in Saturday, which is my birthday, but I'm not sure. If I do come we can all have a moment of silence to mourn my fender.

dude, save some $$ and do the prep work yourself. a little sand paper and removing the moulding yourself will yield a much better paint job. Plus if you just install the parts(fenders, front end, etc), you will be in much better shape as far as the money.

I did this with my old Fiero(the one that is now totalled) and it saved me over $500 and I know the prep was done right. It doesn't matter anymore, but the paint was in great shape for over 3 years.

What I am saying is; unless you are dropping $2-3K(or more) on a paint job, they are gonna skimp on the prep...which is the MOST important part of the job. There is nothing more frustrating than a good looking paint job that starts peeling after a year. I have seen to many friends have it happen.

It appears that the weather is going to be fairly nice for this coming weekend. It won't be sleeting or raining and temps will be in the 50's. I hope we have a good turnout and we need to cover some of the upcoming events and get a head count on who is going to Deals Gap and who is gonna make the trip down east and when will be a good time to do it in May.

I also want to start getting a planning group together for this year's GRR and nail down a couple of bowling nights, drag strip events, and talk get an auto cross date planned for the Rotary Triathlon to see if we can pull off a local Triathlon and get some input from everyone for anything else we want to attempt this year.

I also want us to have some of our cars in RX Tuner's Readers' Rides section and also try to get some coverage on the GRR event in the fall by getting a large group of owners to commit their attendance to the event.

So all that can make it to the Char Grill at 5:00 pm please make the effort to come out just for a couple of hours at least.

Bert

Josh,

I'm going to be doing some stuff myself certainly, like putting in the mirror. As far as the bumper and the fender go, I considered replacing them but Steve looked at the damage and said that some straightening needs to be done that even he doesn't have the tools for. Should I try to remove the bumper and fender before I drive the car over there?

What else can I do besides removing the moulding? There was some surface rust that I treated with rust converter and touch up paint, but it needs to be smoothed out. Should I attempt to go buy some bondo and do that myself too? Where should I be sanding?

We need to talk about this at the drivein. I'll bring the GTU and you can give me some advice.
