I found a new rotary owner yesterday up at Harvest Oaks Shopping Center, the one right across Strickland from the Char Grill. He was driving a nice looking silver first gen and said he was selling it. He said he'd be listing it in Sports and Compact Cars. I didn't get a chance to look the car over, we were passing each other in the parking lot so I could only stop long enough to compliment his car.

Just thought someone might be interested in a sweet little first gen. I'll try and find the publication he mentioned.

What's this "done with it" attitude? Haven't you learned that the moment your car senses that you're done with it, you're gonna pay it less attention, it's no longer a priority for your money or your time, that it will break something. You never let it know or even suspect that you're happy with it and won't be doing anymore mods or upgrades. You have to open the hood at least twice a week and unplug something or unscrew something and put it back.

I've heard and seen proof that FDs are much more demanding than their predicessors.

Oh yeah....if anyone is interested.....I've still got alll that paper work from that FD sitting over at MM. I plan on being out of here by March and I don't forsee myself picking this FD (or another one at that) up between now and then. If anyone is interested in picking up this FD you WILL need this stuff. Just let me know and I'll bring it to the next meet.

well, somebody is almost finished with a transaction for an 87 turbo II with 90K on it right now... the great fun is bout to begin with registering and insuring another car within the next 2 weeks.

I still haven't stopped by the dealership and seen the car. Yes, bring it to the drive-in and I'll take it just in case something happens or we can work something out. Maybe we can do a deal and fix it up and get the owner and dealership to do the patriotic thing and donate the car to a worthy veteran.

Yeah, I think DMV has opened a new license tag office in Bahama due to the demand in that area for vehicle registrations.

I am definitely going to be there with a fully functional FC. All lights work, new alternator, new plugs, and it just passed state inspection. I might even let and FD owner drive it if they are properly humbled and try new things, like a working rotary powered wonder.

Hey everyone, haven't posted here in a long time, don't know if any of you guys remember me from one of the meets but I had recently purchased a silver FD. I really liked hanging out with all you guys and don't know why I didn't come to more meets. Maybe because I have had a bunch of car problems but its an FD thats to be expected. Would have been great to come to the meet but I will be in the Charlotte area since its my lil bros birthday. I will try to make it to the next meet and should have the car up and running in Feb. sometime.

Yes we remember you, it is always a pleasure to see a running FD. I'm no FC owner but I've heard that if you keep your windows rolled down and throw a $5 bill out the window every few miles your FD will run forever.

It seems that it was engineered with a an FDD sensor, Financial Drain Detection, and it maintains a record of the money you have spent on it. You must maintain a positive CMF ratio, Cash per Mile flow rate, in order for the car to keep running. The ideal ratio is 1, that is $1 for each mile driven. If the sensor reads a setting below .87 CMF then it will trash some part of your car that will bring the CMF ratio way above 1.00 in order to give you a cushion to ride on for a while. Some FD onwers have installed a pillar guage to monitor their CMF and to keep their rotaries on the road.

There is also some built in milestones within the CMF software that insure some extra expenditures. Whenever an FD hits a 25K milestone after 70K miles, the CPU will break something to insure that the CMF ratio is above 2.5. It is rumored that this is engineered in so that when you get one of the CMF adjustment malfunctions,to keep the ratio at 1.0 or better, you'll be thankful that it didn't cost more and willingly spend the money, hopefully at a Mazda dealer.

Yeah, good thing I love the car or I would have no reason to spend so much on it. Was going to rebuild my engine due to low compression and some other stuff, but apparently the guys at clean and fast had supposedly put in a reman for the previous owner. Needless to say the eshaft bolt refused to come off even with around 700 ft/lbs of reverse torque (actually snapped the end of the breaker bar off ). So I am ordering an engine from Ray Crowe at Malloy, probably going to get one of their brand new engines from japan that they have in stock. I am just thankful I have some extra cash to throw around .

At least the CMF sensor resets to 25 when you do a new engine install. That should give you some major grace period of cash free motoring. Make it up to Raleigh on any 2nd or 4th Saturday, there'll be a group of rotarians hanging around the Char Grill.

Bert, I have to give it to you, I think you are right about the cash flow per mile. I am hopeful, however, since I've calculated the $$$ that will go into my car to get it to the point where I stop modding. By that point I will have easily broken $3/mile. hopefully I will have a little while before I have anything break.

Rob, we will be doing the meets all year so when you get that car rolling bring it out to one of the meets. Mine probably won't be running til sometime in February, also. We need some 3rd Gen representation at the meets.

Anyhow, I look forward to seeing everyone at the next meet. everyone take care and keep those rotors spinning.

rob, did you by chance by that car from a guy that works at mr.engine? i'll be there, i hope! not in an FC though cause, i've got a big CMF ratio to spend before i can drive the one im gettin. first i've gotta pick it up though....

No, I bought it from a fellow NCSU student who lives on Gorman. Apparently he bought the car without an engine from the orignial owner and got clean and fast to put in a "remanufactured engine" (my *** it was) they did all kinds of weird stuff in the engine bay so trying to fix all that.

Whats up everyone! I just wanted to tell you that since moving down here to florida the 7 seems to be running alot better.....well that could have something to do with the new front main seal (no more oil leak!), RB Turbo back exhaust and fuel cut defender (Got it for x-mas! by the way if you dont have one GET ONE!!!! It's Grrrreat!), and I also fixed the boost leak i was getting from the IC pipe hose connector thing. haha. I wish I could be there to show everyone but my schedule for school wont let me get back up there until around March 26th thru april 3rd for spring break. Well just wanted to say hey and all is well now with the 7. Hope to see you when I get a chance to come up there!

You do know how to check the CMF to insure you're getting the proper $/mile ratio don't you? You take a $100, Ben Franklin bill and place somewhere in the engine bay, the best place is the OEM air box if you still have that installed. I've heard of a lot of different locations from people who have removed their OEM air box and they all seem to work just fine. Put it in a secure location and if it is there the next morning, your ratio is .87 or better, All is good. If it is gone then the ratio is set to 1 and again all is good.
