Bert, do you remember the olden days when only a few 7s would show up all night. Well last night was like that. I think the official count was 1 FD(Rick's), 2 FC(Ray's & Poor Redneck's), and 1 RX8 for the rotary powered. Other than that we had a my brother's Cobra, the black VR4, a modded Crown Victoria, Tercel, and of course Ryan's black Civic.
Rick was sent home fast due to flat tire, but not before everyone got to enjoy his freshly removed airpump, new intake, and beautiful underdrive pulleys.
Free rides were given out in the Cobra to all that wanted to feel 400+RWHP and the 3000GTs blow off could be heard filling the night air.
We got a call out of Savannah, from Steve, who acquired that 2nd Gen and hopefully made it home safely.
Aside from the lack of rotary power, a good time was had by all.
Edit: as a side note, does anyone think we should move these earlier into the day as the weather turns colder and the sun sets earlier? just a thought I had on the way to the meeting as i watch the sun wane on the horizon.

Sorry to be so quiet last night guys... I got there just after getting off work (why I was greasy and ****) and was just plain tired. Worked from 6:30 that morning... Had to leave early... had a party go to.

I've also thought about the fact that it is getting darker earlier and trying to move the drive-ins up a couple of hours to have more daylight. It makes it tough for pictures of the happenings.
Thanks for being there and doing the write up.

Sorry I missed the meet...hopefully I can come to the next one if I'm not working. I've been away from my 7s for too long...think I'm going to hit the junk yard and see if that junk T2 has a decent steering wheel that I can put in my FB, then swing by the auto parts store to get some tune-up parts, now that I have some more money.

Aloha guys!! Looks like your still haveing fun on sat. nights. Well i know it is not in NC but i just wanted to show you all cause your meetings are what has gotten me on the mission to get the Rx owners of my island together.
there were supposed to be around 10 people there. 4 Fd's and the rest Fc's. .... Well what showed up was me in a customers FD( he is my neighbor and one of the WrX owners too) and my Gf's Fc. Also 2 WRX's caught up with us at breakfast.( 1 STI one not, both sounded like a freakin motor boat under water though)
Here is a shot of the 2 Rx's at the old airport here in Kona. ( Where we are hopefully going to start meeting twice a month) But I've l;earned that out here most people are to stoned to get off the coach to go anywhere!! Unless there is big surf!!
Oh well sorry to cluter your thread up, just wanted to share what you inspired me to do. I just washed and waxed them both last night to for the meet!! D'oh!!
Aloha guys, Thanks for the inspiration.

let me know what you think of the 2 cars ... i built them both up from doodoo!
Here is my FD... it is a work in progress
http://members.aol.com/rotoryhead/rx7/engine6
I Just re-painted the enginebay and underside of the hood. Came as close to a match as possible except the slight pearl in the clearcoat.
Sorry again if this is intrusive.Just not much action going on out here.

You don't have to apologize for jumping in on our thread. We love rotaries even if they aren't local.
Don't be disheartened by the light turnout. I think our first Raleigh meet, had a total of 3 RX7s. My FD, 2 FCs (Bert & Johny), now except for this past weekend I think we have been averaging 10-15 RX7s, a few RX8s, and a good showing of other non-rotary powered machines. Good luck with the new club. If nothing else you have two members you know you can count on.

You owe it to your car - now just do it!
For anyone who wants to see what they and their car are capable of in a safe, legal environment, THSCC & TZC are hosting a High Performance Driving Event and Time Trial at Carolina Motorsports Park (between Camden and Kershaw, SC - 3 hours south of Raleigh) the weekend of Oct 23 and 24 (weekend after next). Cost is $245 for members, $265 for non-members. As of this am, openings are still available for students in all categories. All you need to participate in the HPDE is a tech inspection for your car and a helmet. I have at least one extra helmet if you need one for the weekend (if it fits). I shouldn't do this without asking Ashraf, but you might be able to sweet-talk him into doing the tech inspection on your car. This is considered a non-competition event (driving school) and therefore your auto insurance is typically still in effect. There is appropriate classroom instruction, as well as in-car instruction. Passing is limited to designated zones, and only when signalled by the overtaken driver. There are 3 student groups, based on level of experience. This is a driving school, not a racing school. You typically get 1 1/2 to 2 hours total track time per day. CMP is an interesting track, purpose-built for instruction. One end has some fast sweepers with some elevation change, the other end is tighter - almost like an autocross course. It can be a bit tough on tires and brakes, but it provides a great learning environment.
This is a great group of guys and gals, great variety of cars - it's all about the driving, not marque snobbery.
The time trial is held each day for those with a competition license (or THSCC/TZC TT license) who wish to participate. This is a competition event - Solo I in SCCA parlance. Your auto insurance does not cover you, and you must have a higher level of safety equipment.
For information, on-line registration, etc.: http://www.thscc.com/timetrial/index.html

Great to hear from you BI7. Glad to hear about you trying to start a group up, If they'll ever build a bridge over to your place from San Diego we'd love to make a road trip to a meet up. The first drive-in we held there were two FCs that showed up. Now we have about 15+ rotary machines and a few cars with those other engines with all the moving parts. It is a lot of fun just to see what shows up at the drive-ins. The biggest challenge is getting word out about the meets and the locations.
Great looking cars, love the yellow FC, very nice car., the FD is ok too. Keep us posted on how your rebuild is coming and pass along anything you learn as you progress. We're always willing to learn from others'scru-ups, I mean experience.

Hmm, I was unsuccessful in finding a FC steering wheel in a junkyard. The car actually had one, but the junkyard wouldn't sell it without selling the entire steering column...for $100. Shyeah. Anyone have one laying around they'd sell me cheap?

I thought you would like the FC Bert!! I'll try to post up some pics of the enginebay soon. I painted and detailed the engine too. Just cleans things up a bit. Also some shots i took up by the summit of mauna Kea. Pretty nice up there.
I also did the same to the black FD. As well that is happening to my FD this weekend. Taking the water pump housing in tomorrow to get all the nipple holes filled at the welder.( As i can't weld aluminum yet ) I removed all heater core and other crap. Just going to have an upper and lower radiator hose soo simple.
Thanks for the continued inspiration on the meets. I didn't take it to hard that no one showed up I kinda expected it. I am making some fliers with the next date on it. i think the 24th. hopefully they will all get enough time to schedule it in. I may try and see if a night time meet would be easier for all. But it is hard to see the cars at night. Especially here. When you go outside of the main street in town. it is Pitch black.
Thanks again guys. Keep up the good work on that coast and i'll try to pull my weight out here for the time being

Hey guys, I met a few of you at the drive-in a few weeks ago (I had the silver FB) Well I still haven't figured out the electrical demons in the car, and I've just about given up. Does anyone around here know their way around ignitions/electrical problems? I've replaced the starter and battery. If anyone is interested I will of course pay you to get my car starting again. The only other option I have is to tow it down to charlotte to that rotary shop but I just don't feel like doing that. Thanks guys

I finally got GTU running, I'll be at the next meet. Pretty sure its the 23rd.
Hopefully I won't be so "contempt" or whatever... I was just tired as hell at the last meet. That and there really wasn't that many people :-\
