I just bought my 84 GSL-SE on Monday and just found this forum tonight. I have my kids this weekend so I cant make it out but will deinitely be there next Saturday if you are meeting. Just dont laugh too hard when you see the car. Needs a paint job and other minor work but hey I payed $525 for it and it runs like a dream.

Its a good drive for me. And more than a little out of bounds ... technically. I'm not sure if ya'll were thinking about getting together this saturday. But since I'll already being going out of bounds to Jacksonville I might as well go to a car meet. That is of course if its happening. I've got to go to work here in like 5 minutes, but I'll check the forum before I take off tonight for jacksonville. And I'm on AIM as long as my computer is on. Quicker way to get messages sent ...
So, is there a meeting this weekend?

Marc01, If there are enough people that are willing to go, I am sure we can have a meet. I know Bert has other plans and I was gonna head to Rockingham Saturday night so I can hit B.O.I (though, I can head out later if we decide to do a meet).
tarheelquality, welcome to the world of RX7s. It would be nice to see a 1st gen join the group. Come on down next weekend, Saturday, May 29th.

I know that it had been mentioned that after May that the meets were going to go to every 2nd&4th weekend of the month. That would put the first June meet on the 12th. Is that good for everyone or not? So far there has not been too much support so and I would guess that these things are open to change depending on what the demand is.
Please, post your idea/comments on where/when would be best for the meet to take place.

Next Raleigh Meet, 5/29/2004 @ 6:30 PM
Come one come all to the next RX7 Raleigh Drive-In on May 29 at 6:30 pm, 1830 for you military guys, at the Char Grill on Strickland Road just west of the Six Forks Rd intersection.
If you can't make the Drive-In on the 29th then we will be meeting in June on the 12th, same time and location. If rain is likely, not just scattered thunder showers, our bad weather location is the parking garage behind the Wachovia Bldg on Blue Ridge Rd.
Y'all are right, we need more color, to add some excitement to the drive-ins. Black is beautiful, but it is more beautiful when it is contrasted to other colors, HA, HA!
Josh is right, don't worry about the condition of your ride, it should be safe to drive, but other than that we are interested in RX7s, and other rotary machines. Most of ours looked like yours at some point so do come out, we are all there to help each other with our cars. On the 29th we will start working on issues with low power, low RPM engine bucking and tuning our engines to minimize the problem when driving in low gears, below 2K rpms. Also, I still have the Mazdaspeed Oil Filler cap to give away at the first Drive-In when we have 8 or more 7s show up. Let's shoot for that to happen on May 29th. When we get our TPS's and dashpots adjusted and our engines running smooth at low rpms then we will adopt another technical problem to tackle.
Josh, thanks for handling the questions for the last few days, I've out of town, and posting the pictures. They look great.

On a different note, I think we have a good amount of 7s around the Triangle and it would be nice if we could stir up some interest. Anyone have any ideas on attracting more folks, especially people that aren't on the forum? I see 7s all the time and short of flagging them down on the highway and telling them about the meetings, I don't know how to get their attention. I would like to see an increase in either meet; The Mazda Club or the Raleigh RX7 Club (RRC) [figured the club needed a name].
Bring your car to the next meeting and we will all be very impressed with you new wheels. If you're not getting your car out to drive and for others to look at and enjoy then your missing half the fun of owning a unique engineering wonder, What do you think the SEVEN wonders of the world refers to?

Alas, I have duty this weekend. Here in the military we have a 4 day vacation, sadly, I happen to have duty. Somebody has to watch the barracks ... I will however make it to the june 12th. I hope to have a local car meet here in Havelock or another close by town (other than New Bern, too many cops) the 11th. I'll pass the word onto whatever sevens are there.

lol...figures everyone knows where the D.H. is.
are you headed south on capital? that would make sense being that you are from VA.
What you wanna do is head all the way in and take the 440/Outer Beltline exit (1st exit, not the 2nd one)
Merge on to 440, two exits up will be the Six Forks Road exit.
Shoot all the way up six forks until you see strickland, take a left on strickland.
This is longer but will require the least effort/thought.
Maybe some1 more familiar with that area can tell you if strickland crosses capital and bring you in on a shorter route.

Here are the directions to the Char Grill on Strickland I posted back on 4/30. They should be good for any location since you'll be getting on 540 or 440 to get around Raleigh with the least hassle and traffic:
DIRECTIONS: If you are coming from Raleigh or 440:
-You can come up Creedmoor Rd and hang a right at the Strickland Rd intersection (at this intersection you should see a Krogers in the shopping center on the left)
-Go up Strickland and the Char Grill will be on your right several miles up Strickland.
DIRECTIONS for Raleigh residents:
-If you come north, up Six Forks Rd from Raleigh take a left at the next traffic light after you pass the Kmart,
-Char Grill will be on the left a couple 100 yards down Strickland.
DIRECTIONS If you are coming from Durham/Chapel Hill and other locations to the west of Raleigh or 540:
-Exit I-40 at the 540 exit and go to the Six Forks exit.
-Go south, to the right, on Six Forks Rd to the Strickland Rd intersection, about a quarter mile, and turn right.
-Char Grill will be on your left a couple hundred yards west of intersection.
DIRECTIONS: if you are coming from eastern NC you can hit the 440 beltline around south Raleigh.
-Go North toward Wake Forest and exit 440 on the Six Forks exit.
-Go north on Six Forks several miles until you pass a Kmart on the left
-Turn left on Strickland Rd at the next traffic light.
-You'll find the Char Grill on the left a hundred yds or so on the left.
If you have any questions or need emergency directions while on your way then my cell phone is 919-247-3884.

Well, if you aren't stuck on being a separate group and okay with being Raleigh members of the Mazda Sports Car Club of North Carolina, I have a stack of business cards I can give you that you can leave on the windshields of parked cars.
If you are there Saturday we definitely need your expertise on the technical issues we are going to cover in the drive-in. Four June it will be the deceleration bucking at low rpms. How to adjust the TPS and Dashpot to smooth out the deceleration and improve fuel efficiency. I've done the research and will be doing my car today to test the FSM procedures. I have no experience with the FD and turbo engines but I know you do. I know this is short notice but would you be willing to help with this effort? If you can't make it can you give me some pointers on these engines and post them or pm me?
Thanks.
