Nic, you coming down tomorrow? LOL Oh **** I just remembered you'll be working, my bad. I'm not trying to be an ***, I was just thinking tomorrow was Saturday, haha. Well, have fun at work, BWAHAHAHA!!! Actually I just remembered you're on mids, so you CAN come down, haha. Of course you'd probably be sleeping so there's not much point in that, haha.

Secondly, copy/paste the "list" I started and add your name to the list, rather than just post on the thread.

Well, after checking all kinds of wiring in the Miata, it seems its failure to start was that of a simple dead battery. It put out the correct voltage, but I guess not enough amps to get her cranked (my multimeter only tests voltage and resistance.) I popped the 7's battery in and she fired right up.
However, it seems that Miata batteries are about $100... money I did NOT have budgeted for (more) car repairs. Couldn't this happen after the Dragon, where I could just allow the car to sit for weeks or months at a time until I felt like fixing it?

RRDI has been a Blast, but No Lately
You're right Josh, enough said.
I understand what Johny saw in everyone last year at DGRR and what Phil Sohn got from a lot of you a few months ago. Johny wasn't the problem when he underwrote the costs of the Mansion and expected everyone that committed to stay there to share the expenses. The problem resurfaced again when Phil asked the RRDI to be a full DGRR participant; Phil wasn't the problem then, and the self centered, belligerent attitude surfaced again when I made my request to keep the vodka bottles closed.
I spoke out on an issue that I feel strongly about, drinking and driving. I served in Vietnam and lost two guys in my battalion during the year I was in country and during the 10 year course of that war; two friends I grew up with, went to school with and played high school football with were killed in Vietnam. That is 4 friends in 10 years lost to a very savage war. I have seen at least 17 people I knew personally killed in alcohol related traffic accidents in my life. That is 4 times more people killed due to alcohol use by them or by others. In the sixth grade one of my friends and his entire family were killed that summer on their way to a beach vacation by a drunk driver. I feel strongly about mixing alcohol and car events. A few beers are one thing but hard liquor is quite another matter and thinking the two together are cool is immature and very short sighted. Anybody remember the ravages that alcohol abuse and driving have had at Wakefield High?
I apologize to anyone that was personally offended with my request to keep the vodka bottles closed but I do not apologize for making the request. I have finally had enough of a few, self-centered adolescents venting whenever they are asked to do something that is in their best interests and for the good of the whole. I have lost all interest in the RRDI and whatever it is to become. I am no longer a member of the RRDI and will not be part of any of the group's events that I previously said I would participate in.
Freedom requires responsibility; when you exercise the former you must accept the latter.

^Bert, I'm sorry you feel you that way. I don't think you do inderstand what Johny saw...just to clear it was all of us. And the select few you call self centered adolescents had nothing to do with what went down. I'm not gonna call anyone in specific but you should get the facts straight before you start accusing people.
I don't think it was the request to keep the bottles closed but it was the way you came about it. We are not kids, I myself don't drink at all, but I would think everyone is grown up enough to be responsible about drinking and driving. No one ever said they planned on even doing that! I understand you have strong feelings about the situation, I do too, but like you said everyone is free to make their own decisions. As for bringing up Wakefield High...you should be upset with the bad parenting and the stupid mistake some dumb kids made deciding to get in a vehicle after drinking!
As for you leaving the RRDI, I would really hope you would reconsider. But too let everyone know, I will continue on with the RRDI...even if it ends up just being me! I think the whole situation got blown way out of proportion.
If anyone wants to talk to me please PM me.
Nic

DGRR 2017 4/26-4/30, 2017

Bert,
I am in complete agreement with you. I have closed down Christina's thread on DGRR, "Add this to the checklist..." when that items happens to be a 40% Alcohol. I believe that some might actually think its manatory items that people should bring to DGRR.
Just as you mentioned, DGRR 2007 is a driving/gathering. I DO NOT endorse drinking and driving.
But at the sametime, I can not stop anyone from drinking on their own time and place.
What I ask of you all is that you be responsible and think of others. It only take one person and one incident to ruin this event and or worse hurt someone else.
So, don't be selfish and think of others who will be attending this event.
And just as I posted on the DGRR subforum, If you are hung over next morning you are not being responsible..
See you all in 2wks!
PHIL

Guys, lets not let hurt feelings, anger, and differences of opinion get in the way of the fun we have. Bert, I like Nic, hope that you will reconsider and stay with the group. I think everyone should be mindful of how we approach situations and how we speak to one another. When feelings get hurt, things go downhill quickly.
Cliff notes:
1. lets just have fun and stop the arguing :-).

Bobby, I think we've come to a crossroads...things like this could have been settled in better ways, such as through PM's. But it happened none the less, we have some things to discuss at the next meet, I hope everyone willing to keep what we have going makes it out on the 14th. I'll have some proposals to make and I'll need some feedback.

What I want to know is how this all came about. I expected that people would bring some alcohol, but NEVER was the idea to drink AND drive brought up.
What I see RRDI becoming is something where events are going to start being planned. RRDI's cohesion is found through common ground that bring us together. Let's all be honest; it's fun to go to a meet, but we HAVE to start doing things every so often. You don't have to spend money at Frankie's; you can watch. The changing face of RRDI shouldn't be viewed as a bad thing, as change brings new ideas. As far as negative influences within the group are concerned, those are naturally eliminated by groupthink. If the group doesn't like an idea or a person (we ARE a clique) the idea or person will feel unwelcomed.
Responsible drinking is important all the time, not just for these types of events. I'm with Nic on the idea about continuing RRDI no matter what. I REALLY like this group and I think the friendship goes beyond the commonality of the cars we drive. I say cars and not engines because, well, some people are "different." Ha.
Enough about this. Back to those drive and cat/dog pictures I posted.
