What makes it really awesome is that it said "SEVEN Times Distilled Vodka." While I know there are plenty of other rotaries out there, people usually think RX-7 when people talk about rotaries.

Oh, and black holes aren't collapsed stars. Seafoam roundhoused the universe so hard, it ripped it new ones.

The smoke you saw tonight is honestly nothing compared to when you go WOT the first time. It LITERALLY looks WORSE than the worst running deisel semi-truck you have ever seen. Its huge think clouds of nasty nasty black smoke.

I figured it was the best way too. Undiluted, haha. I'm going to swap out the plugs, or clean the ones that are in there, and try to start it again today. But I'm still wondering if I should spit out as much as possible through the plug holes first. What do you think?

I would put the old plugs in and try to start it. If it wont start then use new plugs.

Changing The Subject

We need to start planning our drives for the spring and summer. I know most of us are focused on DGRR now but think about local drives and events that we can plan trips for over the next several months.
Some things I have seen scheduled within our areas:
- Rolex Cup races at VIR in April,
- Blue Angels are going to be at S-J AFB this summer,
- We can do a NC Zoo drive any time this spring,
- There will be a 7/7/07 Rotary event this year,
- GT Live @ VIR in October,
- GRR of NC, maybe do a cook out up near Johny's and time it to coincide wihen he breaks ground for the 10AE Rotary Museum or combine the GRR with GT Live and get coverage in Mazdasport Mag.
- How about a drive from Raleigh down to the Devils Stompin' Grounds in Chatham County?

any ideas and suggestions are welcome for our events schedule . . .

As long as my car is still running, I'm down for ALL of these. I haven't been to the zoo in forever either.

There is also:
- Brotherhood of the the Dragon in September
- That Maryland BBQ in June (the name is blocked by all the visuals in my head that Johny has posted)

I must be confused. Dont try to spray it out the plug holes. Let it go out the exhaust. its more funt hat way. It probably wont hurt anythign to try to push it out the plug holes first, but you will probably get some nasty soot spots directly outside of the plug holes from the carbon being fired out of it. Just try to start theengine.

^Too late, I removed the leading plugs and turned it over to get most of it out. Then I swapped ALL the plugs and started the car. It actually started very easy, but it's still running like ****. SOOO much smoke came out, but it wasn't as black as I expected, it was still more white. The neighbors congregated across the street after the first huge amount came billowing out of my garage, like they were going to kick my *** or something, haha. It stopped at one point so I started it again and let it run a little longer. I'm going to take it for a drive later probably, I just hope I don't get stranded.

I'm doing most of these...the airshow is now scheduled for May 12th! I'm trying to get all the info together so, we would be able to show our cars out on the flightline, like the Corvette and Mustang clubs did last time. I should hear back from the lady in public relations this week...I'll keep you posted.
The Rolex race is the weekend of the 28th in April...I'll be there with bells on since I got the go ahead from Sylvain Tremblay to get a tour of the SpeedSource PIT!!! Keri and I were thinking of heading to the Zoo sometime in May but that's up in the air. And I'm headed to the Maryland BBQ and the Brotherhood event and GT Live! Can't forget the Brit's and Battleship car show, we now have our class if want to enter this time. Sounds like a busy year for me and Keri, I'm also attending the Easter car show here on base next weekend and Keri gave us the go ahead to make trip to TX for Christmas! Real busy!!!

If its white smoke I would be willing to bet it is either a coolant seal in the engine or the turbo. you losing coolant?

I'm not sure what the issue is now. I'm going to swap the plugs again tonight and see what happens. It felt like it was running a LITTLE better yesterday while it was smoking so bad, but it still felt like a seal might be stuck. I'm wondering though, since I can hear all the apex seals passing by the plug hole (which would indicate they're all making contact wouldn't it?), maybe it's a corner seal or something. I didn't think a corner seal would be as prone to sticking though. Didn't Josh say something about his corner seal going?

I had talked to Nic about the coolant issue yesterday. If I'm losing coolant, it's very little and not very noticeable. It was just crazy yesterday cause the smoking just wouldn't stop! Most of the time after it's warmed up it'll stop smoking. Nope, just came pouring out the whole time.

I was looking at rebuild kits online last night. Rotary Aviation sells the basic kit for $503 and the master kit for ~$967. The only difference between the two is the master kit also comes with corner seals, side seals, oil pump chain and rotor oil seal set. I'd love to get the master kit but I can only really afford the basic, although if my corner or side seals are gone I don't have much choice. And I can't even afford a turbo rebuild right now.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER go half-*** on a rebuild; you'll find yourself doing the same thing again a year from now. This isn't from experience, but from observing a trend on the boards. I would go with a master rebuild kit, buy a video on the rebuild process and watch it a few times. The thing is this, you should perform a compression test before you are getting depressed about a rebuild kit price. I'm sure you know what I'm saying, but it always helps to hear it from someone even if you already thinking it.

i did say something about corner seals. when do you get off tonight eric? does the car run long enough to warm up?

at this point it seems less and less like a stuck seal, but that could just be my paranoia (is it paranoia if they are really after you?)

if you get really froggy I have a 3 day weekend coming up, we can rip the bitch out, and take a closer look.

I wouldn't really call that "half-***" haha. It's still a pretty good kit. ****, Victor reused a BROKEN corner seal, haha. You shouldn't have to replace the corner and side seals every time, I wouldn't think anyway. I don't really have the money for a full kit right now. I mean, I have enough where I could scrape together a little more and get the master kit but that money was meant for a PFC that will soon be discontinued if it's not already. And I STILL wouldn't have enough for Josh's engine, so that would mean I'd be rebuilding mine and I don't see the point in that. And the reason I'm not jumping to do a compression check is because there's obviously something wrong with it so the compression is going to suffer. I can tell that without a compression test. It SOUNDS like it has good compression but there's still something wrong with it.

I get off at 4 most days. When I started it yesterday I kept my foot in it (held it about 5k+ IIRC) for a few minutes and then backed off slowly, so I couldn't tell you if it will stay running long enough to warm up. Hopefully I'll be able to tell you that this afternoon though. I'm also thinking it's more than just a stuck seal now. I'm down for pulling and rebuilding, it's just that money is an issue right now. I don't forsee myself making it to DGRR now

Is this the forum spy who steals others IDs and posts under their names or is this the real NIC? I don't think RX7 owners are allowed in the Brotherhood of the Draggin', I hear that's only for RX8 owners who really think rotary is a civi club, not a unique engineering marvel that hides under their hood. All they do is look at RX7s funny and keep asking what kinda car is that?

R U serious about us having a class in the Brits & Battleship Car Show? If that is the case and we might get to participate in the Car Show at S-J AFB then I got to bet busy and find a rotary engine display. Anyone got an engine laying around their garage their not using? Something that we could clean up and use for an educational display until you're ready to use it in a car? Anyone? Anyone at all?

Today I went out for a drive and spotted an old First Gen RX7 setting in someone's backyard, flat tires and all. I am going to check it out tomorrow.

Yeah man, I was just talking about the halfway rebuild kit. I know you aren't rich (any of us?), but if you are thinking rebuild then I would go full. PFC wouldn't be necessary at this point if you are having engine problems. That would be equivalent to ME...getting...a...PFC...with...engine...problems. ...nevermind. I was going to say something about putting a turbo in my car without having it being in good working order. Word mincer today... You get what I'm trying to say. I'm just a compression test spazz when I hear about things going wrong. It's cheap, easy and doesn't take much time.

Not to threadjack (as if we really have a particular topic for this thread), but I figured out my horrid squealing problem: loose brake pads. Yeah, I don't really know how to describe this, but the pads jiggle even with the pins in place. I don't know what I can do other than get a new, cheaper set. I say cheaper because I don't like these Hawk pads. They suck. I do NOT need warmup time for my BRAKES if I'm driving on the street. When I hit the brakes I want to stop.

^^^Yes it's the real Nic...The Brotherhood welcomes all.......for a price, HAHA! As for the Brits and Battleship show, I thought you said something last time about the coordinator offering to make a class for us if wanted? I'm still working the the airshow thing, my main issue is getting a head/car count so, I may pass it on the event coordinator. Also, if we do this, the gates open for the general public at 9am so, we'll probably have to be in place an hour prior to get us lined up. So, this means an early road trip for eveyone attending!
