Congrats Boobie!

Happy Birthday Greg!

I was so happy to have you guys down at the track yesterday and honored to be the official tour guide, haha. Be sure to make it down again soon.

Oh yeah, and sorry Phil, I'm gonna have to go with Josh's choice...Kate Beckinsale is face-melting hot, the kinda woman I could only hope to see myself with someday.

Nobody needs to be sick for Christmas!!! There's alot going around right now, too.

If people want to bring a couple of movies, then we can gather at someone's house and watch a movie after we leave Ruby Tuesdays. We can all kinda vote on one or two movies, and just hang out.

I'll see if my parents would be okay with that. Mom's pretty excited about the new furniture, anyway.

And again... RSVP by Monday so I can get a headcount.
Just chatted with Christina, and we'll do the post dinner movie at my place. Feel free to PM me for directions. otherwise we can get a caravan back to my house after dinner.

okay pursuant our fayetteville deal's gap mansion conversation. i contacted the smoky mountain mansion people. the mansion is still open for the weekend of the deal's gap trip.

I am not sure who, other than the people that were at dinner, is interested in staying there again this year. i know it seems kinda early, but i wanna get everything booked, paid for, and ironed out well before the trip.

I am thinking of booking for thursday, friday, and saturday night. Which would bring the total to $2000 + tax. obviously the price per person will depend on how many people stay. Rooms will bring a premium, but there is plenty of floor space for those wanting to save some $$$.

please, RSVP by putting your name on the list, copying, and pasting the whole thing in your post.

I will start with the people that I already talked to on Sunday. I need to know who is coming ASAP so we can get the money together and get the place booked. This year the money comes before the booking.

for those that didn't go last year.
http://www.smokymountainmansion.com/

Right now the price would stand at $350 room. So anyone who needs some privacy will be paying a premium.

How many people you pack into the room is your business. So if you wanna get a room and bring your cost down, coordinate with someone you wouldn't mind sharing a room with.

this will be the price per room.

anyone staying on the floor, I think $60 for the weekend is fair, which will go towards food and what not. (BC let me know if that is okay since I called the price after you gave me the okay)

anyhow, we need to get this figured out by the end of the year, so we can get it payed for and booked.

Thanks for your time. If you have questions PM me.

cliff note:
3 Single bed rooms
3 Rooms with two beds per room
$350 per room
$60 for floor spot

We missed out on so much stuff this year because we sketched out on the other groups... *sigh* We are considered very rude and snobby already because we excluded ourselves from the event. The RRDI group is NOT the only group there... we can go as a group any other time of the year.

If we are going to get this mansion, we need to decide now. If it ends up being a no-go, then we need to get enough cabins together as a group! Or we need to warn the rest of the organizers that we are not going to stay in the cabins.

The event IS NOT just about driving. It's about fellowship. It's not fair that we are committing to part of the group events, but not all of them. A LOT of work is going into this event, and it is unfair for the organizers to include us for meals and us not even show up when they are including us in the plans. That ends up giving the entire event a bad reputation for future events in the Deal's Gap area businesses.

The RRDI group can go again in June or something and get the mansion instead.

If you want to get the mansion, then fine... but I'm not sure how I feel about staying there unless we fairly communicate our plans to the rest of the coordinators, so they won't be counting on us. /rant

Hey guys.. Well, i just wanted to add my 2 cents.

I know the mansion is nicer than the Fontana.. and I myself would rather stay at a nicer place than mold infested Fontana (couple of people have complained about it this year and hopefully the remodeling have made the place nicer).

I can tell you guys what to do or where you guys prefer to stay. Only problem I had this year was that I had no clue where you guys were nor what you guys were up to.

I kind of agree with Christina in that more people stay at one place, better pull I'll have year after year. Last year, about 20-25% of the group that I was expecting at the dinner didn't show. I had no clue what happened and I'm sure Fontana wasn't happy that I didn't provide the number I've promised. And that goes with the lodging too.

I hope all of you understand that very very few people help with organizing this event. Last year, I've spend maybe just over a hundred hours toward this event. That equates to quite a bit of my time that I could just sit back at home relaxing.. I do it not just for myself and my friends but for the community.. Kind of like a pay back to those who helped build my car and those whom I met over the years travelling to different rotary events... I hope some of you understand that and help me by staying with the group. I know it might not be ideal to what you would like to do at Deals Gap, but I'm trying my best to make everyone happy!

Please reconsider about the mansion and lets stick together as a single group.

Thank you!

PHIL

PS. I was contacted by Fuel magazine - Mazda dealership magazine about my involvement with Mazda USA. I will definitely mention about this event and hopefully we'll get some publicity. Interview is in 5 minutes. I was told it will be published March/April 2007 issue. I will post the article when I get it.

i think most of you guys know how i feel about the subject. so i will keep it short.

i will let my post about the mansion stand, and suppose that if people sign on, it is an endorsement of staying at the mansion. if we don't get the head count by the end of the year then we will consider the mansion a no go.

for my 2 cents. staying at the mansion doesn't preclude you from attending any and all events. it is simply a nicer place to stay (as well as saving some of our group money) if you want to spend your time doing other events, there is no obligation to go back to the mansion, you can consider it simply a place to sleep. i am sure nobody from the raleigh group will be upset if you decide to participate in the dinners, meets, etc.

i would hope that everyone would be equally understanding of those who don't attend those parts of the event. those who are there simply for the driving and time with the Raleigh group.

for those that were down in fayetteville, if you want to change your mind, or i misunderstood, let me know. i didn't mean to be overly bold by putting you on the list, but i thought it had been agreed.

nobody has an issue with getting the mansion, but the problem is that the coordinators included us to get a head count and a greater discount with the cabins, and if I recall, the rate is 25% off the peak rates, which isn't too shabby.

I'd rather stay in the cabins with the rest of the groups. If David wants to stay at the mansion, then that's his call. I can only speak for myself.

I don't dislike the idea of the mansion, but we could just get the mansion as an RRDI Dragon event at another time in the year.

i am glad you are rich, but i can't really afford two trips to the mountains a year.

i prefer the mansion, but if our group decides that fontana is a better idea, i am not going to cry over spilled milk.

our group has always made it's decisions based on a general consensus, and i think that is the best way to decide now.

Josh,

I totally understand your point.. But let me explain couple of things. All the vendors and Fontana included, are asking me how many rooms and cabins I need. It determines how much of a discount we get and such... and same goes with dinner or lunch at the event.

Not only that, let me turn the situation around and view it from others' perspective.
Say next year, me and the TN/AL crew rent out the mansion and tell everyone find their own lodging. Because I know that Raleigh, NC guys wants to stay at a nice place and we also want to stay at a nice place. so, we beat you guys to it. Not only that, we do our own things and just attend part of the event we like and do whatever we want to do. If you think thats a OK, then I'll be happy to change the date again and do that. Point is, I'm asking for some of you to understand where I'm coming from. This event is suppose to get the community together...

Ouch.

Sorry if what I said was taken personally... if you have something personal you need to say, then please keep it in a PM. There are other people who are more than willing to take a second trip to the mountains... the RX-8 guys do it, for example. Please don't be so absolute with your assumptions when it comes to the entire group... there are a lot of our members who don't even care either way about the mansion.

Like Phil said, it's important that he knows when we'll ALL be at which parts of the event, because he's budgeting all of the different parts around a headcount. If a bunch of people don't show up, then the businesses will lose money, and won't be willing to work as well with us in the future.

The first year staying at Fontana, I felt like anything that was saved in discounted lodging, they made up for in expensive, and relatively crappy food. As far as the sponsors, i would rather pay more money if it kept the event simple.

However, I am going to withdraw from this pissing contest. The RRDI member have been the ones that have supported me and the ones that i consider friends. I will say again, I am with the group, the RRDI group. I consider their opinions important and will do what the group decides.

I don't see any benefit in making this an ongoing saga. so until the group speaks up, i am done.

For myself next year I was planning on staying at Fontana so I could be more of a part of the overall DGRR meet this time. I loved the Mansion and it was really great to have everyone from the RRDI hanging out there, great food, hot tub, etc... but I feel it kept at least me, if not most of us from being more of a part of the DGRR for several reasons. I wish personally I had gone back into town Saturday night for dinner/awards and just to hang out and meet with everyone else that came to the meet and it bothered me that just about everyone from the RRDI arrived late to the Dam Saturday morning. It seems to me in some ways we were a seperate group, almost like another car club there on the same weekend. I know we didn't intend on it being like that but it kind of happened in some ways. I agree that staying at the mansion shouldn't interfere with someone being involved with the main group and events as they wish but it did. I also hadn't thought about the financial aspect of us not staying at Fontana for the DGRR and that bothers me. My feeling is we should stay at Fontana with the other people attending the DGRR.

That's the problem I have with the rates...I know my self and Phil and everyone else is expecting there to be atleast 100 owners at this event and all we were able to do was get a 25% discount? Just this past September at another event I attended, we only had 30 or so participants and were able to secure a 50% discount. Now, I don't know if Fontana is picking and choosing who gets the best deal but I think it's BS! I still want attend the event but by the looks of things I'll be spending my spring time in Afghanistan!

Just wanted to through my 2 cents in also, since everyone else did...haha!

I second Josh when I say...I don't really give a ****. I'm going out there to have fun DRIVING. I could care less what other people think of me. I was there at the lunch this past April, and I conversed with pretty much NO ONE aside of the other RRDI members there. Didn't really seem like the other groups wanted to chat either, so who gives a ****. I like meeting new people, but I meet them when we take a break from driving down by the lake. I don't need to go to dinner with them too.

I'm pretty sure we've already decided. If YOU don't want to join us, then don't. I loved partying at the mansion with my friends from Raleigh and our other friends.

I'm going up there mostly for the drive, I've been trying to go back all year with my friends from RRDI. So yeah, for me, mostly it's about going for the drive and hang out with RRDI friends. It may not be that for you, but that's all you. Who is it not fair to? Did we hurt some feelings cause we didn't show up to other functions? Newsflash 'Stina, alot of those people probably didn't even notice we weren't there. I get enough of being told where I have to be being in the military, I don't need it in my offtime too. I'm sick of that ****. If I want to go to a meal, I'll be there. If not, I'm not f'ing going!

Yeah, we CAN go again in June, but we're going in April too. I'm not going to be bullied into staying at the cabins or anywhere else if my friends are interested in staying at the mansion again. Like I said, I've been trying to go back all year, and aside from the 8 club, have we, NO, not that I've seen (thanks again JOSH, haha). So yeah, if others are interested in staying at the mansion again this year, that's where I'm staying.

Hey Phil, I'm sorry it was an issue with you last time, and thank you very much for putting this together every year. However, like I stated above, I will not be bullied into staying where everyone else wants me to stay. Would it be possible to just let you know what we'll be attending as a group and what we won't be? I know it's kinda hard to say so far out, but if I don't want to go somewhere I'm not going. I just felt more comfortable hanging with the RRDI people than meeting new people.

Damn, this really is an issue with some people. For cryin out loud. The first part...like I said, can we just tell you what we'll be attending ahead of time so we don't mess up your plans again? Second, it's not like we're telling others they can't stay there, wtf. At this point it feels more like tradition to me. I just had alot of fun this year and I'd like to do it again for '07. If you guys were to book the mansion then so be it, I'd either try to find lodging at Fontana or just not go.

CLIFF NOTES:
If we can beat Phil to it (haha), I want to stay at the mansion.
