VIR Holiday Laps

I'm planning on going to VIR on the 8th, I should be able to get the time off from work. Okay, so where are we meeting and at what time? We should get to VIR early, last year there was already a line around 10:00am, I believe.

IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We both had the day off yesterday... and we feel SOOO accomplished! The FC IS RUNNING!

I'm waiting on the springs to get here... they should arrive this week. Is someone off on Saturday or Sunday of this weekend and/or next weekend? I will probably need some help with the install once the springs arrive.

.....hopefully I'll get them this week. Otherwise I'll just compress one spring each night next week and install them Saturday Dec. 9th before the meet.

PM me if you can help out. Thanks!!

From what I've heard, you're looking for slave labor, not "help"

I have spring compressors if you need to use them, although if you're putting on lowering springs I'm not sure you'll need the compressors. I've never had to use them unless I was installing or removing the stock springs. Let me know, I'll bring them this weekend.

I have spring compressors if you need some. Don't think you will need them to install, but to remove the old ones. Here are some good write ups that I used for the FD that might help:

I don't think you want to drive that area much after dark, especially midnight. The cars maybe off the road but that's when the deer come out to play. They have a game, they wait until cars are coming and then walk or trot across the road, sometimes they will stop in the road and play chicken.

I'd planned on doing a drive on 12/9 before the drive-in, basically the same route we took but a little earlier in the afternoon. Plan on starting at 2:30 instead of 3:30 and get all the driving in before it gets too dark to do it safely. I'll try to get out there and mark the turns better for the next trip . I"ll use a yellow X and put a red dot in the quadrant indicating the direction you should turn, that way you can take the drive anytime you want.

Why are you getting an aluminum driveshaft Phil? How heavy is the stock one? I know the FD DS is super light, and I had looked into possibly going aftermarket until I felt how light it was. I just don't want to see you waste your money on something that won't make much of a difference, when you could put it towards something more useful. That's if it's not heavy anyway.

I tend to agree. Save some money for when you really need it.

The daytime may be harder for ppl to come since lots of guys come after work... as well as the fact that there are alot of back country folk out and about during the day.

I didn't really think about the larger volume of deer around 11 or 12... let's do it around 7 or so that night... that way we can have a little bit of a meet before we have fun.

I really hope it doesn't rain on Friday for VIR. If the pavement is damp I'm not even going to bother spending the money going out there. The other night I was merging onto the beltline in my T2 and the ground was a little slick from rain a few hours earler. I'm in 2nd at half throttle, and once it hits 5k rpm the car starts getting sideways--this is in a straight line.

At VIR I'd either kill myself or drive horribly and boringly slow if there is even any wetness on the ground.

Oh and wish me luck today guys, I'm gonna try and get my GTU back up. I still have to get the transmission lined up and put everything back on the car.

I think I might sell my kidney (joke) and buy a Mazda reman engine sometime in late March. I wanna be completely ready for the Dragon. I'm even making a Dragon playlist. I think I'm more for the drive during the day; I'd like to see everything.

Here are the turn indicator markings I'll be putting out on the drive course for next Saturday's drive.

Perky, if there are enough people that want to do the drive after the Drive In that is their choice but I do not think this time of year, or any time after the sun sets it is safe to be on those back roads. I will not risk my car or health driving with all the dear out that I see on the roads. The traffic is not bad out in the rural areas during the day, the last time we took the drive it was also before an RRDI and we had very little interference on those roads and it was the middle of the summer.

I would suggest that if you can't make it on Saturday afternoon and there is enough interest a group could go out on the "road course" on Sunday and drive it. Like I said I will have it marked with the turns by then so it will be available for anyone to drive, any time.

We can assemble at the New Light Baptist Church parking lot off of New Light Road since the old man that watches the Stony Hill VFD station is very sensitive about the use of their parking lot.

YES! The markers are like a person doing cartwheels! That old guy had a wild hair up his butt last time we were there, if it's the same guy that was in the pickup last time.

Aluminum driveshaft since I think (I have to check tomorrow) my universal joints are worn. Since Mazda, in their infinite wisdom, decided to make ours non-serviceable, I'll have to buy a new one. The aluminum one off Mazdatrix is $382. I have to do some research to see if the OEM would be cheaper, or if another one would be a better choice. Also, does anyone know a good, cheap muffler I can use to replace my cannons; I can't take it anymore. I'll hold off getting the Racing Beat exhaust like Bert until later. I just want to regain some hearing. Would pretty much any decent muffler I pick work? I don't want to sound like a lawn mower, nor do I want 4-inch cannons on my car.

Ok, quick research. $282 for the regular Mazdatrix driveshaft. That's good. I'll get that one instead. I swear, I don't know how I missed that the first time.

It JUST dawned on me why we have 13b, 20b, 26b, etc. I was sitting here wondering why I haven't hit the hay when BAM! Yeah, I actually never gave it a second thought until today. Now I feel a little less stupid.

Have you checked the for sale section for one? That way you don't pay so much for a stock one right now and save money for an aluminum one later when you have more money laying around, know what I mean? Not sure what to tell you about the exhaust, you could check the f/s section for that too. I've found some pretty good deals in there, but you have to be insanely quick if it's a good deal. I'm also glad the Rotary gods have bestowed on you the wisdom of RE names now Phil, haha.

Okay. I apologize, Bert. I didn't mean to come across so argumentative. I too am terrified of hitting deer and oncoming drunk idiots... so I don't have a deathwish. I only suggested the evening drive to avoid pokey people.

If we can get a good group together, then whenever is completely fine with me. I prefer daytime drives, too, for visibility reasons. I'm down for a group drive anytime that I'm not sleeping or in class.
