Also how about the final evaluation on track. I guess the main thing you're getting with the GM engine is reliability over a heavily moded 13B.

Looks like to me the slightly moded FD3S is faster in the curves but the FDLS1 has the torque and speed advantage to come out of the turns quicker. You bringing up to VIR in December? It ought to be interesting
The only reason I can think the LS1FD would be slower around the track would be due to power delivery, possibly harder to keep the rear end planted with the added torque.

This can be the only reason since an RX7 with a full Touring interior, sunroof, complete Bose sound system including the "Sound Wave," and a 1/4 tank of gas weighs about 2,831lbs. which is a little less than a stock twin turbo 13b-powered RX7. The weight distribution 1423Front/1408Rear. not quit 50/50, if you want to be an extremist you could through 15lbs of weight in the back, or keep your tank fuller.

I will be trying to make a track event as soon as possible. at the least the holiday laps.

I suspect the chassis was so poorly set up that whatever motor would have given longer lap times.

As ugly and battle scarred as my FD is, the handling is spot "f"ing on.

FWIW I passed an LS powered vehicle ...aka...C5 Vette that was wearing Hoosier racing rubber Sunday at Rockingham, and I was on Toyo STREET tires. The most important part of a car is the driver, but its moments like that when the FD makes me proud... 14 years old and still kicking a$$.

what suspension are you running? also is there someone good locally that can help me make sure my coilovers are preloaded correctly, once I am done with my swap? I wanna play with the suspension tuning some, to make sure I am getting everything I can out of the car. I don't know how much can be done, I have Tein Flex Coilovers, and that's it. Plan on adding sway bars in the next few months.

I have the Ground Control coilovers with 600 lbs front springs and 500 lbs rear springs. Brad at Digital Chassis in Durham did my alignment and corner balance. It was expensive around $300, but I've seen a lot of folks spend thousands on parts, go cheap on the expertise and then have essentially wasted their money on the parts because of poor set up. Brad's cool I asked him if I could hang around and watch a bit until I could get a ride, I found it interesting. He's got a terror of of an SC VW Corrado. He said its got 3-4 psi of boost AT IDLE!

I can verify digital chassis in Durham does GREAT JOB for me on corner balance and tire alignment. The car was night and day difference after Brad set up.
That place gets busy through since it is a 1 man operation and he does a lot of tuning work for porsche clubs. Brad is a bit pricy but money well worth spend.

Damn good idea. Like I've said before, I'm not sure what component made the most difference on mine, but I believe the sway bars have helped tremendously. I might have to take mine to that place techno and riceman were talking about, I'd rather have an expert do it, someone that knows what they're doing. Other than the fact that I'm lazy sometimes, lol.

Oh, and I finally got my brake rotors Saturday, so my brake job will be next. I'm waiting til after VIR to do it though, I'm not taking the chance on downing my car for that. I've waited a couple months for them, a couple more weeks won't hurt.

I just called Josh this morning when I saw the new mag on the stands at work today.

It's a good read. The Rotary FD still won over the LS1 FD and the effing Camaro. However, they were really stupid in their comparisons for 1/4 mile times, track handling, etc, cuz they didn't do a FAIR comparison. They all had different tires, braking systems, etc... so it wasn't really a valid competition. It seemed to me to be just a way for the drivers to advertise for the companies sponsoring them. Ghey.

Still makes me want an LS1 FD, though, so I can make an FD my daily driver and not worry about her dying on the way to work.

A note on upgrading to stiffer sway bars on an FD. The stock mounts are $hit. The are thin sheet metal and crack over time. I've replaced one side and now the other side look slike it will need to be replaced soon. I should have bought custom mounts from Widefoot.

What about the extra support RB offers? I saw another place that had one too but I forgot what it was.

Well, I think RB makes some pretty good parts, but you get what you pay for, haha. Is it the same piece, just more expensive for the Widefoot? I've always heard good things about their parts though. What is the website?

I did some calculating today...I'm gonna need at least another $10k to finish my car, and that's doing my own carpet and everything.

I really don't know honestly. For the price difference, I'd look hard at the RB piece. Someone like Fritz or Damian might have some practical experience with them. I bought some used stock ones so until they crack again, I'm not buying anything...unless I stumble across a steal.
