I'd like to make it a "Dragon" attack car, but I'm not sure how much longer I'll be in NC for one thing, and I'd like to finish the FD first. Oh well, I'll keep in touch with you all and maybe move back after I retire or something, but it will be to Raleigh, not Fayette'nam, haha.
You're moving?? Where are you going?? Did I SAY you could go anywhere??

I'm an idiot, I didn't realize Jesse had already posted pics, haha.
Well... I have a '87 Base shell that was converted to a S5 TII, but if I gave it away for free it would be pretty bare, as in no suspension or anything... No fenders or bumpers... Clean title though, and it's a Base, so it would be a cheaply insurable TII swap... I'd rather see the body go somewhere other than a junkyard though...

Speedjunkie:

The engine was the main difference in the GSLSE, but it also had power windows and cruise control standard (options on other models), a stiffer suspension (which would be worn out by now) and it has disc brakes in the rear instead of drum brakes.

Stina-
No I'm not going anywhere yet so you can stop hoping, haha. I'm just saying with the base realignment and the fact that everyone seems to be getting orders, I can feel it coming.

13b4me-
First, what's your real name? Haha. Second, I was thinking I'd probably just get a bare shell anyway, cause I'd probably do suspension and all that anyway, and I was thinking I would probably have to get a tranny from somewhere else, and just piece it together slowly. As far as the fenders and bumpers I'll have to think about it. I might just put a widebody on it (nothing too crazy, like the gold one from Japan on the cover of Modified mag a month or two ago) and different bumpers, so that may even be do-able. Will it have windows? Haha. If you're going to end up junking the body, I'll take it off your hands, I'd rather see it get put to use rather than die a slow death in a junkyard, I'm sure we all agree these cars deserve better than that. I'd hate to see you have to resort to putting it there. Getting it to my place might be a problem though, haha. I'm not sure if I'd even keep it in NC or just build it at home. That can all be arranged though. Will it still have a wiring harness and all that? I don't want it to be TOO big a project. I'll be thinking about this. Is there a deadline you're trying to have this done?

Joey and Jesse-
Sounds like there's alot of differences. Wow. Like on the FC shell, the suspension and wheels I'm not too worried about. I'd probably try to find a brake swap to convert the rear to disc though, and the engine I might even look into replacing from an SE, and possibly switching to the different bolt pattern on all 4 corners anyway. The power windows and cruise control I'm not all too concerned about. Cruise would be nice, but the windows I figure is just one more thing to break, haha.

Of course to do all this I'd need money, so I'm back to square one anyway, haha. On another topic, I wish I could make it to the movie with you all. I won't be back til Sunday night probably and I think I have to work that night at midnight anyway, so it's gonna be a LONG night at work for me.

Need some S5 TPS adjustment help and a VDI Hold down Nut.

I finall got my intakes all reassembled, all the vacuum hoses connected correctly and the throttle cable reconnected with the proper tension. The GTU is road worthy and very driveable. I also have gotten a new Driver's seat, a steering wheel surround, and SS brake cables to install when I change out the 4 piston calipers I got from Steve with the single piston calipers that are OEM.

But what I need help with is a small vacuum leak that I have because I lost one of the nuts that hold the dynamic chamber on the Upper Intake Manifold, UIM. If no one has that particular nut then does anyone know what size and threading it is so that I can go find some locally at junk yard? It took me three tries to reassemble everthing correctly and when it was all done and I found a pin hole leak in one of the heater hoses that come out of the back of the throttle body. I got a brass hose connector from Lowes and some heater hose from Advance Auto Parts, AAP, and fixed that but dropped the last nut I had to install somewhere on the top of the rotor housings and couldn't find it and it didn't comeout on the garage floor.

Anyone that can help with the TPS adjustment for an S5 or has an extra nut or knows the size and threading please post or call me on my cell, 919-247-3884.

Also remember Cars on Sunday.

Don't know where I was last evening. I checked under the hood and the nut is on the stud and tightened down like it should be. So, that isn't the source of the minor vacuum leak, must have knocked a hose loose while I was repairing the hearter hose. Do need some help with setting the TPS correctly on an S5 NA. I'll search the forum for the process or the S5, but if anyone has done this please let me know and we can hold a TPS adjustment workshop at the Char Grill tomorrow or actually today.

Sorry girls and boys, I'm going to miss the meet tonight. Got an outdoor gig at the Little Bar (Iron Horse Saloon) in Apex that starts at 7pm so I'm going to have to leave from work to go there to set-up. Have fun, eat drink and sniff rotary fumes.

The GSL-SE had 4x114.3 and the 12A models all had 4x110...

The car will have the body harness but no engine harness... It'll have all the glass except the wiperless hatch (keeping that), but I'll replace it with a wiper hatch if you need one... Also the windshield has a crack in it, nothing major, but will need to be replaced... I might consider leaving what's left of the interior (dash, door panels, front carpet)... I would really like to keep the bumpers, fenders, mouldings, taillights, etc... Oh and I gotta keep the CF sunroof panel so it'll need a new panel...

My name is Alex btw and I think we met once at Chargrill when I rode up there with Jason to get my fenders...

Bert: Sorry I can't be there to help you with your TPS, as I checked/tweaked mine regularly, but it is really simple in the S5 and all you need to get is a multimeter. Double check the FC forums for the exact process but here's whath I remember from when I had mine: Fully warm up the car, check the resistance on the TPS plug (do some searching to see the exact wires) and it should read 1 ohm resistance. If not, turn the TPS screw until it does say 1 ohm. Take a drive for 20 minutes, then check it again, it will probably be off a little bit. Repeat as many times as necessary, if it's way off you'll probably get it just right on the second or third try.

Oops! I was gone at 5pm to set up. Wish we could have hooked up sooner and yeah that's the place. Great gig tonight and we got video of it....

I think we had 7 or 8 "ladies" on stage playing percussion instruments on one song. Cops showed up right at 11pm to make sure we quit. Much fun but damn it was hot as hell the first set out there. Once the sun went down a bit it was great. We're suppose to be back there in August, arrrggg for the heat factor. They said they were going to extend the roof on the stage for us by then. Dunno if it will help much but anythings better than having the sun beat down on you while you're playing. It's gonna take me a day to clean the sweat and **** off my guitar.

Anyways I'll be up at VIR Sunday watching the races with some other people. We'll be under the trees at the picnic tables if you get a chance to come up there.

The cops gotta show up and shut ya down at 11pm... that sucks... guess the 'burbs have closed in, eh...

Probably better I didn't try to make it. I was pretty wo out and had to get up early this morning to go to The Rock w/ the THSCC and PCA reps to lay out proposed 'rumble strip' locations. Gotta do sump'n 'bout folks like me who keep kicking up sand and gravel in they fancy car's faces... ;)

Another time for sure.

I'll be at Roebling Road for the THSCC / Triangle-Z three day Instructor Clinic and HPDE this coming weekend, so you all will have to hold down the fort at VIR...

Wanted: Cheap or Free Used Tires - 195 or 205 / 50 - 15s

Wanted: Used take offs that have even wear and ~2/32s or more tread left.

Preferred sizes: 195/50-15 or 205/50-15

Can use pairs or sets of four.

Free is nice, but will pay reasonable prices depending on tire brand / model, condition, etc.

Will pay shipping, but prefer local pick-up in the Raleigh - Durham, NC area.

So, it you've got any laying around and want to help a good cause, recycle your take offs with me... ;)

Some examples of brands / models that would work:

Bridgestone Potenza S-03s
Kumho ECSTA 711s
Yokohama ES100s
Hankook Ventus

Or anything that are similar, specifically in the High Performance category, or higher, typically having large tread block designs.

Thanks,

Yes... of course...

But, I didn't think you all would have left enough meat on your take offs to go more'n a couple laps... ;)

Since I can only take what is on the car, and occasionally a spare set of 4 if somebody is toting 'um for me, I need to have enough left to get thru at least, say 3 hours of *relatively* easy track time, since my stock set-up can't load 'um too much... ;) I was thinking it'd take ~2/32s to get that, but perhaps not...

The Rock and Roebling are a tad hard on wear compared to VIR... I do have a Chin Motorsports event coming up at VIR on July 3-4 which is obviously easier on wear, BUT it'll be for 5-6 hours track time...

So, whatcha got in mind...

Well I'll definitely be changing out the running gear then, I heard it's a PITA to find 4x110 wheels.

That sounds good. So I can put in the engine (that still has all the wiring on it) and plug it into the body harness or will I have to find another harness to go in between? I'm not too knowledgeable on the wiring yet. The rest I'll just build slowly. Thanks Alex.

Ok well I'll shoot you a PM right now, because the car will have to be moved before I sell the 5-lug stuff off it, in order for it to roll... Unless you wanna buy the 5-lug...

I've been trying to get around to going by and visiting with him anyway, just been too busy this past couple weeks trying to get ready for RR, having my oldest son and two grandkids visiting, and all the day to day stuff... it'll be after this upcoming deal at RR before I'll make it...

I figured they wouldn't be... and the cost of the Toyo R-compounds are, as you noted, outrageous... but that's what the PTBs and all the big bucks guys think ya gotta have to use on a 'real' racecar... they shoulda gone with non-R compound tires IMO, but then nobody asked for it, eh?

For my purposes, any ol (semi) high performance tire will work fine and last longer...

I've got this one set of used Toyo's from the Long boys, but they musta been cut to 2/32s and though only run one weekend, I don't expect them to last long... paid too much IMO, but they had so much 'pick-up' crap on them there wasn't any good way to tell how much tread was there until I 'drove' it off...

You got any idea how thick the tread rubber is past the bottom of the grooves...

Thanks...

I hate the toyo's once I drove on the Hoosier semi-slick. Id like for the tire rule to be open. May turn another miata into an FP car and be able to do more things. Money has gotten way out of hand in SM. But you know what they say...speed costs money...how fast do you want to go? But the toyos are very predictable and reliable. And you can get more use out of them. I have no idea how the tread rubber is, you can come and check it out for yourself.

It sure as hey doesn't have to cost near as much... IF they restricted tires to a spec'd NON-R compound to start with... but thaz jes me, I don't care about having a 'faster' car, so long as everybody has the same speed potential to start with...

As db sez... 'Get in... buckle up... Shut Up... and Drive!'

I have no idea how the tread rubber is, you can come and check it out for yourself.
I wasn't reffering to any specific set, I was wondering how much one can go past the end of the grooves before cord or carcus rubber shows... guess I'll be finding out this weekend... ;)
