Save me the trouble of checking back through all the Miata resources please... if you know...

Is this a Torsen, and if so will it interchange with a 94 Miata...

TIA,

IMSA RS 69

I saw a red FD on 401 yesterday. It looked to be lowered with aftermarket wheels. I tried to speak with him at a stoplight, but he was too focused on the road to even look at me, Im kind of hard to miss!! Silver, loud, low, flashy 1st gen....the guy lookedt to be in his 20's or so must not know his rotary history. Was it someone on the forum?

The guy I share an office with just got orders to Osan, but I heard yesterday that alot of people have been getting their first choice lately...hmmmm. Haha. I don't want to leave all of you but we all know it's been coming. Even if I do get orders though, the car will still be waiting for me, bwahahahaha!!!! But from what Joey says, I may need to get a smaller steering wheel. "Hello, Autozone? Do you guys carry the super-hot JDM Grant steering wheels so I can shift mad qwik yo?!" haha. You got orders yet Nic?? HUH??!! haha

Oh by the way, if that happens to be an S5 NA engine and you don't want to use it, I may be interested in taking it off your hands.
Well I fit in an FC, and I wasn't really worried about it anyway, as long as it has a sunroof, haha. Is the S5 engine the 13B-RE? Someone on another thread said the RE WAS the FC engine, but I thought it was a special one from Japan out of a Cosmo or something.

Jes a suggestion...

A guy in my shop was saying it was easy, but I was thinking "how do they know it's not stolen?" So if I could get something from my cousin, who was the last owner, to come with me. Oh well, I'll get it done somehow. Thanks for the suggestion.

Silver? I thought it was pink?? Haha. That IS your 1st Gen in the avatar right? I think I've seen pics of your car but I can't remember where, do you have more or can you give me the link? I do remember that I was impressed.

Would that be because of the ratio, or that the swap would have to be the whole deal, housing and all, which I know can be done, but is slightly different, and of course not SM spec... I was thinking that just the center section (hog's head) might interchange, which was what I was asking about and all I wished to do... even if that weren't right for SM, I'd have something better than the open diff I'm doing all the HPDE's with now...

Actually, I'm recollecting that it's the length of the pinion that's different and if that's the case then it wouldn't help me in either case.. too much trouble for what I need...

Im still working on getting you that video. I have to burn it to a DVD and drop it in the mail. Carl
When ever you can is fine... I'd like to make it out to your Dad's shop for a visit sometime soon, perhaps even next week if I can, and it suits him... If I know I'm coming and you've got it by then (don't worry about if not) and can give it to him I could pick it up and save you the trouble of mailing it...

Thanks...

Really, it's not that hard, and the bond is to cover it if it is stolen or has other ownership issues that crop up... the bond has to be in force for say 3-5 yrs. I forget which, but if your credit rating, criminal record, etc. is good then the bond (which is through a private bonding co.) is not real expensive as I recall...

Just go on DMV's site and check it out, or call up their head title guy and ask him, or his asst.... I actually got through awhile back about something and they were amazingly helpful...

Joey-
Thanks for the pic.

IMSA-
Thanks for the info, I'm going to give that a shot.

Carl-
I want those wheels, haha. Those are pretty hard to find though right? I kinda figured it was photoshopped, did he lower it too? It looks lower in the PS pic, like you're tucking quite a bit. From what I can see that's a pretty damn clean car too, good job.

You cant use it in spec class because its almost completely different. They make kits to mount them in a miata but its not something you can sneak past tech.

It's coming back to me now... as I noted above I'm pretty sure the pinion is longer, which requires a shorter drive shaft... other than that and having whichever axles it takes seems the guys on MIata.net have made swaps w/o any mention of kits, although they might help...

And NO, I wasn't trying to sneak anything past anybody, else I sure as hey wouldn't have posted it on here... ;)

Just couldn't resist at that price... as for SM'ing it, I got to get the main basics together first, that being the roll cage and suspension... in the meantime I've been looking to get a Torsen in the Ratty Red Rac'r Wannabe soes I'll quit failing rear tires with too much tread from over heating due to spinning them so much... ;)

I've got a spare '96 w/ a Torsen and had planned to swap them around, but need to work out some way to get both up on racks at the same place and time and do it together...

Thanks for the input...

Don't get me wrong, if I make tech I'm sure I'll get to go again. But seeing as my overseas return date is feb. 05 I'm sure I'm good for awhile.
