^ The driveshaft and U joints are actually fine. It turns out that the whole differential broke, and the differential mount is completely gone.

I can understand that. Sucks for me, but oh well...maybe he'll race me some day, lol. As for the FC I'm buying, who in the club knows how to and has the needed tools to change out the apex seals. I wanna put the stronger seals in before they go, to prevent the possibility of catastrophic expenses(compared to the cars value) as much as possible down the road.

Thanks, Barry. We're planning to pull the engine and bring it to the house this weekend (the car is at my dad's, in St Pauls). So, we'll see what condition the engine parts are in after that. At the least, it should be good for demonstrations.

In the long term, I'd like to get it running some day (several parts are missing), but in the mean time it'll be a good hands-on learning experience for the both of us, starting with the engine (I don't think we can hurt it ).

It's already a learning experience as we ID the missing parts (the previous owner had almost tore down the engine to short block in the engine bay).
Missing: driver's seat, clutch fan, battery, fuel pump? (gapping hole in the top of the gas tank), alternator, engine harness assembly, crank angle sensor, ...).

It's going to keep us busy for a while, but he's 13 so we have some time

The only way to replace the apex seals it to do a rebuild. Just for parts, a rebuild will cost you atleast $650, thats just for all the internal seals, o-rings, and gaskets. That dosn't include any new parts like rotors or housings. The only advantage you would have if you rebuilt it right now would be that you MIGHT be able to salvage all of your housings and rotors, depending on their condition. If you wait till she pops, which is what i recomend, you could get a used rotor and housing for less then $150. So your really not saving that much money if you look at it from that perspective. I would look at it as more of a reliability issue. If you would want it to be more reliable, then yea, go ahead and rebuild it, but make sure you dont cut any corners, cus they will come back to haunt you. Just my 2 cents.

did u find all the parts? If not rotary resources can help u out.... I was given a whole differential mounting bushing and all from a 90 for $175. You can get the contact info on the web @ www.rotaryresources.com there located about 30 min outside of raleigh in fuquay varina. The guy there is real cool he offerd me to come pick it up at his house rather then drive out to fuquay.... He lives close to capital.

i will race anyone from a roll. its just the drag launch that i am not too fond of.
i think i have my boost problem fixed. we can run after that, and then after i get her tuned, then after i crank her up to 20psi.

lnlycrpr, there are a couple of RRDI guys down in fayetteville. speedjunkie(eric), is at pope, and initforthefun(bobby) are both down that way. the next meet is on the 27th. maybe you can caravan up with those guys. i normally meet up with them when they get closer this way.

WOO HOO!!! so Josh, I guess that means I might have a chance to try you out on fair grounds yet? I might not win, but I'll give you the best I can without a stage upgraded computer And thanks to smoken for the info on the apex seal replacement info. Appreciate it. If that's the case I'll just be patient and wait for the day...hopefully it will be a long wait, lol.

David!!! Turn on your PM pop-up-y thingy so you know I sent you stuff... you have lots of PMs! Sad!!

Check your myspace, too. I gotta get stuff packed for class tomorrow soon. Argh.

Oh... and Glad to see you joined the thread now!! Yay! This feud between your SRT-4 and Josh's FD is gonna be funnn.... That is, if Josh truly wants to be beat by a turbocharged domestic four-banger. NOT!

This sucks because I might love my boyfriend and the rotary about equally... so I am kinda caught in the middle. Haha. Well, no... I think I love David more.

Just to be corny, I think I can depend on David a LOT more than a rotary.

Aww...how sweet, I'm being compared to a rotary engine! lol, but I agree that the run with Josh and I will be fun. I don't even care who wins. I just wanna see how I do against a reputable FD. Especially since some Rotary guys from another area were totally bashing SRT-4's...gotta represent yo! lol, what better way to do it than take on the fastest FD I can find. Win or lose at least I got the Ba_ _s to try. I just hope I can keep it close if I do lose. lol

Hey daniel-san I appreciate the info. I'm getting my parts from Smoken's parts cars, but if he doesn't have something I'll check that out.

Hey fellas, been along time since I posted, but I actually drove by the chargrill at the last meeting and saw the black fd and the supra and that camo fc.

Anyways-I own a silver FD with blitz wheels that used to romp all around this area but has been out for several months. I actually just pulled the motor out last thursday and had it dropped off yesterday at rotary aviation for some stage II street porting and prolly some ceramic coatings on the rotors. As the engine is gettin revamped I am going to be doing alot of maintainence work and some extra goodies such as roll bar install, racing seat install and putting the finishing touches on the fender rolling for the +22 offset rear Z1's (looks so sick-exact fitment and offset as the apexi D1 car). Anyways-I gotta huge garage space out by the airport and would definately like to pick some of your brains on some ideas of stuff I wanna get done.

I hope to make it out to the next chargrill gathering and will definately post any Q's I got up here-just wanted to touch bases with all my fellow rotorheads and I hope to be out again on the road soon

Yeah it was on thursday I believe, so I think it was you.

I think that was probably my old roomates MB Fd. We were there to see 4 brothers.
I am pretty sure it was a black car, not MB, plus the car had the same CF hood that Josh has so I am pretty sure it was him.

Well guys whats up? How was the meet last weekend? I was goin to come up but when i went to the gas station I just couldnt afford to put 2 tanks of gas in one week lol. That stuff is up to 2.73 a gallon for the 93 octane. I hate to say it but i may have to buy a piston car to drive everyday. I think that the people who control the gas prices should be arrested for RAPE lol.

^^^ I agree.

..........I too have found myself uber guilty of looking at gas-savvy piston engines. *sigh*

Someone's gotta do something about these frickin gas prices!! Rotaries gulp gas BIG time.

Hmm...and y'all think I should get a rotary why? lol, just kidding. I don't like gas prices any more than y'all do...but it's one of those innevitable evils you just have to deal with in order to gain power sometimes...I can't complain though. I still get over 20 mpg with 250 whp until I swap out my injectors for races.

rotaries dont make good daily drivers. they should be reserved as a 2nd or even 3rd car.

with gas prices going up, i have been considering a moped. this is ridiculous. i say we go suck alaska dry, and build another 4 oil refiniries. ecosystem be damned. i want $1.50 93 octane AGAIN!.

i may have to retire the 7 as a museum piece sometime soon, perhaps go to the dark-side, with a supra, or vette. at least they get 25+mpg vs my 15(rolling downhill)

i'm not particularly fond of our fearless leader, but if he would bring those gas prices down, i would lobby to have him elected president, for a 3rd term.

Too much gas!!

You guys are right. I have officially reserved my FC for the weekends. I moved from my last job because it was too far to drive with gas like it is. Im in Raleigh now and 10 minutes from my new job. I was excited at first because I figured I could go back to driving my FC to work. But with gas @ $2.50 I think ill drive my other car....94BMW325is....and its a V6! I want to get another daily driver, but i REFUSE to get a civic or some **** like that. Think im going to get a 300zx....its not gonna get honda mileage, but its gotta be better than my FC.

Never thought I'd see the day where I coundnt drive my 7.

My FC is my daily... but I get like 19 mpg in city and 26 on the highway.

I think I might get a 240 SX as my 2nd car... just cuz they're a lil more reliable, nice looking, AND more gas mileage friendly. I dunno yet. I had my heart set on getting a TII as my 2nd car... since I can't afford either dream car yet. (FD or Supra.)

I wish they made something that looks REALLY good, has nice HP, it's affordable, AND has good gas mileage! Argh.
