Yeah, they are the same rims as josh, but from my understanding, Rick got the Hyper Silver. I love those rims!

Josh,

Actually just got an update from Ashraf. Engine and tranny are bolted back into the car. I think he is goint to start putting stuff back on the engine, but he will probably wait a little while as some of the parts still aren't in. The turbo kit came but not the turbo yet so we are waiting on that and the vmount is shipping out monday. So it looks like early April when I will begin breaking in the motor.

cool, I just wanna see that thing in action. Especially, the VMount. I think eventually I am going to regret my FMIC, but I will have wait and see what the temps are, after I get it up and running and make some ducting.

oh, also, we have a 3rd room open on our cabin, if anyone is interested. It is 1 room with 2 twin beds. The price is $110 total for both nights. PM me if anyone is interested.

Rick has a FMIC and he made it work. He's installed extra fans and runs a 180 degree thermostat. You should talk to him about it when he brings his car Saturday, as he's very good about keeping that thing running cool.

Unhappy

forget all of y'all with the rotaries finally getting on the road. i've been working on a stroked, bored, high comped, ported, polished, expensive, slow piston motor for the last month.... and its still gonna be slow. it does have some rotary heart and soul though, FC oil cooler hangin in front of the radiator. soon, i hope, soon, i'll get some rotary boost on the road...

haha dont worry dave. i am thinking of picking up a s13 240 for my next project. It's either that or I might wait a little while and get an NSX. The sad thing is I would ALMOST rather mod the hell out of a 240 than drive a stockish NSX.

it's all back together with the SP63. All I have to do is get it a 3 bar map sensor, so I can tune it for a 20PSI, I am hoping to break 450RWHP @ 20, and from some guys that have similar sized turbos expect to break 475RWHP. I will also do a 15-16 PSI tune for street, and maybe something even a little lower for track, but probably not.

I don't think it will be out this weekend, since I am starting the tan to black conversion and most of the interior will be ripped out, and probably some powdercoating.

How's yours doing? WANNA DRAG!?!?! (racing that is, i don't care if you crossdress j/k)

You know I can do the powdercoating for you, I have got these awesome blacks if that is the way you are thinking of going, ig not I have 36 other colors. I can do anything that, of course is meatal, and can fit in a medium size oven. And I can do it cheaper than others.

Thanks for the offer, I have the setup to do it. I am learning right now, but have most of the technique down. I would say I am about 75% successful right now. I found out I wasn't baking long enough, so it wasn't setting right, therefore some of the coating cracked when I was doing the installs, particularly on the LIM.

How's the TII coming along?

TO, I don't know if you saw this on an earlier post, but this is the color scheme I am pretty much going with; black, black chrome, and candy blue.

Taylor, what colors were you thinking about doing? If you did the prep work, which can be somewhat of a bitch, I would do it for just the price of the powder. A pound of powder can be anywhere from about $8-20 depending on the color. you can easily do UIM, LIM, and Intercooler pipes w/ a pound.

Anyhow, now that my 7 is back together I hope to be more valuable to the group. Next thing I wanna learn to do is rolling fenders, since I will be dropping coilovers on the car soon. Did you ever get yours rolled?

Hey guys, just thought I might run this on this thread first, in case there are any local owners that might need this stuff. I have a few things that I need to sell, if no1 needs them locally they will go on eBay.

-Tan Carpet (very good/excellent condition)
-Tan Mats (very good condition)
-Pettit AST (almost brand new 0 miles, bought it, installed it, found out my engine was blown, went single, don't need it)
-Greddy Airnx Intake (powdercoated in the same black chrome as the picture of my engine above)

If anyone is interested PM me, make an offer.

-Josh

Hey everyone, I've been away for a few days and trying to catch up on what's happening. Sounds like a lot of progress being made on some FDs and the FCs are coming along. Its disturbing that Johny hasn't posted with these progress reports being made. Glad to hear that Rick and Josh will have their cars back on the road and looking sharp.

I've heard that Josh is leaving his interior gutted just so he can carry haul the spare parts and tools he is gonna need to take his car on the 700 miles trip to Deals Gap and back. I like the idea of the black interior, you can't see all the oil and grease stains that way. You'd think all FDs would've come with black as the standard interior color, just makes sense.

Josh, I really need those tan mats if there in good condition and for a good price. My driver's side one has 2 holes in it.

Yea, I did get my fenders rolled and it has helped SOOO much. I did the driver's side first and I turned it a little too fast and got one little chip on the underside but the passenger side did fine after I had the experience of the first one.

Also, what kind of prep work is needed for the powdercoating?

Btw Josh, why aren't you keeping the AST when going single? Its only going to make your system cool better.

Btw Josh, why aren't you keeping the AST when going single? Its only going to make your system cool better.<<

Well That can be debated to no end. All the AST is doing is giving the extra air that builds in the system a place to go instead of the overflow tank. Soo eliminating it and running the 86-88 cap assembly accomplishes that feat as well. Just using the overflow tank instead of the AST. IMO, all that was put there for was just to give Mazda one more thing to fail and make people buy new engines

I eliminate them on ALL the FD's i work on. ALL of those FD's have temp gauages in them and NONE of them ever get above 190 just cruising. Those Fd's are also still twins, i am the only single on the island. And when running hard it never gets above 220. So it does NOT help "cool" better. It actually plays no role in the cooling action. More of an expansion chamber than anything else. As well I have someone who swears by the engineers and kept the AST. His temps are on average 10 degrees hotter than the rest of us. All with the same KOYO and IC set-up. Is it the AST,...I have to lean towards yes Since they all have new remans or rebuilds in the cars, with less than 6k miles on them.

Now as i said this can be argued endlessly. Espeacially with the people that swear their life that the Mazda engineers are the smartest people on the face of the planet!! FAR from the truth. If that were the case then those same "genious's" would have figured out that sending 220 degrre coolant thru PLASTIC parts is about the most retarded thing to do.As well as make end tanks on the radiator plastic.

As well they would have realized that all the plastic **** on the FD engine would GREATLY increase temps due to NO air getting to the enginebay.causing them to "have" to put in a chamber for the heated air. Then a new engine after 50k miles.

Again this is just my 2 cents and should be taken as such. This is just my experiences in the years i have worked on these things. The(S5) Fc's do not have them and i am sure Bert will be one of the first to come aboard and tote the reliability of the FC cooling system. Ours has a fluidyne and it rocks!! NEVER moves the temps. Rock steady cool.

On another note,..Did you end up getting your clutch finished? Sorry i didn't get a chance to come up and help while i was in NC. I was slammin busy with my Gf trying to figure out how and when and what to move over there. I am getting into state next wednesday march 30th. yeeeehawww!!! I can't wait!

My Fd and my/her truck are leaving for the mainland next week tuesday or friday,..2 boats a week Then from Long Beach Cali on the back of a "Ultimate Auto Transport" trailor to Saluda Nc. Then the twisties are mine!!

Our FC is going to come over after the GF takes a trip back in May for her final trials that she has...She is the lawyer not a client She has to stay here for 3 weeks as well before she comes over, again trials. Then the whole Rx family will be there.

Sorry to ramble on, I am just sooo stoked to be coming back to that area of the world. Aloha for now guys and i will see you at a meet in late april early May possibly.(Once the car shows up) It is on my MUST do list. Char-grill bound!!

Well, I still kinda have to disagree. All I want to say is that how can not removing the air from a cooling system cause the temps to go down?

Ifffff, having the AST on there actually caused the temps to go up then it has to be due to something other than the AST... like the lines leading to the AST or maybe even a poorly designed AST.

The overflow tank accomplishes the same exact thing as having the AST in line. And as i said it is just a thoery that the only AST left on teh Fd's I work on is the cause for higher temps..ANd i know all the hoses are good as I replace ALL them with new every time i work on a car. ...How dare you question me!! J/K!!

If it is a poorly designed AST then MAZDA is to blame as it is a new stocker. Cause the owner swears by the mazda engineers

I agree with you for the most part, especially about the overflow tank. but what i meant about the hoses was only that they add extra length to the system and therefor contribute to the extra heat.

Sometimes I have a hard time believing that Mazda would put something there if its not needed... or could be done more easily. But thats not what our cars are about, they aren't easy! I mean... look at the rats nest for gods sake!!! So I guess you very well could be right.

ahh i get what you meant now about the hoses, And i agree that the extra lengths could cause a "hot spot" of coolant. Makes perfect sense. Some people that remove the AST like to loop the nipple on the filler to the radiator bottom nipple. This creates a hot spot that hardly gets circulated thru the system. hence having some higher readings than normal.

And the Rats nest is a perfect example of how they "over engineered" the Fd's turbo control system.. The Supras have a sequential system and it is absolute cake to work on. Mazda should have taken some notes from that. But they had to try to "outdo" toyota for bragging rights. That didn't turn out too well.

And if i "am" right,...well, the sun has to shine on a dog's *** every now and then!!

Taylor, you will have to see my setup. I got rid of it for 2 reasons;
1)because I couldn't find a suitable place to mount it now that everything is in there. the apexi FMIC keeps you from cutting bumper, but it also invades the engine bay, somewhat.
2)after reading a whole bunch of threads, I am of the opinion that with a vertical mount rad and the 86-88 neck w/ a pressure cap. I won't run into any problems.

not to mention an extra $100 in my pocket doesn't hurt either.

I am gonna PM you about the mats. They are in nearly perfect condition. There is one dime-sized stain that I will remove before selling. I'll also try to post pics later on tonight.

The ast has one line in the bottom and one line to the top so yeah i guess it could be considered 2 lines.
