Saturdays In Raleigh, NC
Call it Saturdays In Raleigh, the Raleigh Rotary Drive-In, or North Carolina Rotaries, we're doing meets again.
Since some of you aren't on Facebook, or are and haven't found the North Carolina Rotaries page on there, and only a couple of us are on Google +/Plus (which sucks because the community and hangout feature on there are awesome), it's time to bring what used to be one of the largest and most active threads on this forum back.
Once a month meetup, some road trips, a cookout at Falls Lake, hookups for Mazda Corrals at Grand-Am/ALMS races, and a lot more will be going on again.

I'm still around I still live in Smithfield but no longer work in the Goldsboro area. I'm in Fayetteville these days. Still have the blue FC but now I'm working on a 90 Vert motor is pulled but I still haven't located another one the one I have is to bad shape. Let's get the Raleigh scene going again and make it the strong group that we used to be.

We used to meet the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month at the Char Grill on Strickland Road, then moved to the 3rd Saturday of the month at various places. We even had Southern States Mazda on Wake Forest Road letting us hold our meets there for a while. Before we all kind of drifted apart we were meeting at Grill 57 in Garner and Fat Daddy's in Raleigh depending on the weather and other things. I'd like to get us doing a regular meet once a month again, like the 3rd Saturday each month, if we can. That way everyone will know when it is, we'll just have to figure out what location(s) as we go along. The Falls Lake cookout we just have to see what date works best for everyone but we usually did that in August. Road trips and other things just popped up whenever but we would do things like the NC Zoo, Battleships and Brits in Wilmington, Holiday Laps at VIR (Virginia International Raceway). We also did Mazda Corrals at VIR for several Grand-Am races, GT Live, and some SCCA events.
Group picture from our last cookout at Falls Lake.
One of our meets at Southern States. They would clear the deck of new cars and we'd park 5 or 6 cars up there, had free run of the dealership inside, played video games on their TV.
Mazda Corral at VIR for a Grand-Am race. We get to hang out with teams like SpeedSource, Long Road Racing and iMoto (both here in Raleigh), and others.

Great times we had! Glad to see this thread back up too!! Thanks Greg.
I will always stay true this username as I still have one RX8 in the stable...needs a rebuild though. Thank God for tax season...lol. Anyways to all the newbs welcome to the thread and to the group...I now also go by SpoolinMS3 on most of the other Mazda forums since my addition of the Speed3.
I am sad I was unable to attend the last meet but schedule permitting I will be there next time amd maybe with a couple of additions to the Speed3...

Speaking of Mazda Corrals, we have one coming up that's about as close as we'll get to North Carolina this year it looks like if you're interested. If you need some more details or information let me know!

Good to know about any meets. I'll try to come up again for one. That April 23 date might work
out for me. I may be in town that week. I'd love to camp at VIR and do the corral but thats the
same weekend as DGRR which I'm already slated for.
I now work for a company in RTP out of my home in Charlotte, so I make it into town a once or
twice a month. If I drive the 7 I'll try to get together for a beer or something with folks.

Crap, if only I didn't have to work! I live in the east Garner area, and last night I agreed to buy my first RX-7 and was hoping to at least get somewhat involved in something local, the car's not home yet but hopefully I wouldn't be turned away, lol. Maybe I'll be able to get it running and in shape for whatever April meet you guys set up, I've never owned a rotary before and really want to learn how to treat it right.

Be religious about the oil level and changes, never ever let it overheat, do regular maintenance (belts/plugs/etc) like any car, never start it and turn it off without letting it warm up, redline it at least a couple of times whenever you drive it, spend some time in whatever generation specific section on here that fits your car reading the stickys or whatever. Other than that, it's a car.

Work, those little details. The next meet is April 27th, place and time to be determined so I'll update it here and on Facebook.
