Raleigh Rotary Drive-Ins in July

The RRDI will be held this month on July 9 & 23. We're planning on having a welcome home cookout on July 9th for Eric Jausel, one of our members just returning from a tour of duty in Kuwait. If Eric is able to make it the cookout will be at Falls Lake, Beaverdam Recreation Area on Saturday at 5:00 PM. If Eric isn't able to make it then we'll still be at the Char Grill at 6:30 PM like always.

Cookout on Saturday at Beaverdam Recreation Area

At this time I have the following people committed to the cookout:
1. Eric (FD)
2. Bert (FC)
3. Steve (FC)
4. Bobby (8)
5. Jason (FB)
6. Josh (FD)
7. David (FC owner)

I hope Greg will make it after work. Who's next?

Also, we've still got the bottle of Purple Ice I picked up at Tires 'N Parts as a door prize if we have all gens present and a couple of verts. It looks like we'll have the all gens present with Jason's FB and Bobby's RX8. It would be nice to have a really good turnout for Eric's Rotary World homecoming and to fill the parking lot at the shelter area.

Thank you Bobby. Keep recruitin' in the 8 community and thanks for updating the cookout list. We're definitely on for Saturday. I'll go out early and occupy a shelter for the cookout. When you enter just ask the gate house attendent where the RRDI group is gathering or drive thru the area until you spot the rotary gaggle. If you didn't get on the list then you might want to bring some food 'cause I'm buying enough for everyone plus 25%. I'll pick up everything Friday night and if I don't know you're comming I can't prepare for you. Post tomorrow by 3:00 PM at the latest to insure you're included. Also remember to bring a "welcome back to the rotary world" gift, FD maintenance item, for Eric.

For driving directions go here:
http://ils.unc.edu/parkproject/visi...directions.html

And I'll see everyone at the Beaverdam Recreation Area Saturday as soon after 5 PM as you can make. Also let me know if you're bringing a friend/relative along. :0)

Yes, if you can bring some chips and dip, salsa, or how about some ice and drinks. It looks like we've got 15 committed to the cookout. Thanks for the help.

Bert, I'm the FD owner who PM'd you for help earlier this week. Looks like I'll be able to make it out there to meet you guys tomorrow. I'll bring the car for everyone to look at, even though there are no door panels on it (refinishing them).

Do I need to bring anything?

Thanks,
Andy

Glad you're going to be able to make it Andy. the menu is going to be hamburgers and hotdogs with potato salad, chips & dip. If you can think of anything not already listed or want to pick up a watermelon that would be great. It appears that we're going to have about 16-18 people showup including guests and friends. I think we'll anticipate about 20 just to be safe.

So everyone that has committed to bringing stuff we should be prepared to feed 20 people.

How do you get to this place from the beltline? Also, what foods/items are still needed?

Thanks,
Brian

OK, from the Beltline exit at the Glenwood Ave/Crabtree Valley exti, go west toward Durham, immediately past Crabtree Valley you'll need to turn right onto Creedmoor Road/Hwy 50 and drive north 10-12 miles. You'll eventually pass under Hwy 98 and 2-3 miles north of this area you'll find Beaverdam Recreation Area on your right and Sandling Beach Rec. Area on the left. Turn into the Beaverdam entrance and you'll find us at one of the picnic shelters. Just bring a set of new wiper refills for Eric, he has a 93-94 FD RX7.

Umm...what do those look like in real life, I've only seen them on burgers.

Seriously though, if anyone thinks of anything we've forgot or needs picking up call me at the store before I leave at 5pm at 828-4888.

RRDI Cookout

All is set for this afternoon, it looks like we'll have between 20-25 people and there will be food for that many. I haven't heard from Eric and if his car is back on the road but we still plan on welcoming him back to the rotary world. If for some reason he can't make it then we'll give him his maintenace gifts when he does make the drive-in.

Come with your gift and an appetite, there is a nice swimming beach if anyone wants to cool off during the afternoon. No alcoholic beverages are allowed in a State Park Recreation Area so we're limited to soft drinks while there. Should be a great time and I'll be onsite around mid afternoon to insure we can get a shelter.

The area closes at 8:00 or 9:00 PM so we should plan on wrapping this DI up by 8:00. If anyone thinks of anything I've overlooked then bring it along. That includes food, games etc.

I'll ride them on the hood, save a few bucks as opposed to the Uhaul

RRDI Cookout

I had a great time, we had 18 total in attendance. I appreciated seeing everyone, since some went to NOPI for the last RRDI. We had several new people there, Gary brought a very nice Titanium Grey RX8. He just moved to the area from Florida so that he could join the group! We also had a couple come out in a beautiful black 8 that they just bought for their grandkids, now how great is that? Of course the grandkids are still awfully young so they can enjoy riding and won't get to drive it for another 17 or 18 years. By then, if we're still using fossil fuels, it'll be a classic, and as awed and respected as the RX7s are today, :0). I didn't get a chance to see the car up close, and didn't take the time to introduce myself since I was trying to cook and feed a bunch of hungry people, but I will correct that oversite next time.

We had a good showing of all gens of RX7s. Jason drove up from Camp Lejeune in his FB; a beautiful, strong running 20+ year old rotary specimen; Carl brought his racing FB; Jesse said he drove his camo drifter but I never saw it,; Greg brought his vert; and Josh and Andy came in their beautiful black FDs. Of course the FCs were all well represented by Eric, my GTU, Mr. & Mrs Smoken' drove up in the black turbo, yes, Kaylee allowed Steve to drive, she is a brave and thoroughly cool lady. With the cars present we qualified for the Purple Ice door prize and in the drawing of the Driver's Licenses Bobby won the bottle! Congratulations Bobby!

A great time and great fellowship as always. The next Drive-In is July 23.

It was fun seeing everyone again. Here are some of the pictures I took. I missed a few cars I think.

Nice pics of some nice cars Bobby, thanks for being the photographer Saturday. The only thing I wish we'd done was have some driving time and got individual shots with the cars and their drivers. Remind me at the GRR this year to find someplace to get individual shots. We really need to start building an album of owners. Barry started it but he won't be around very much and I guess you and I will have to continue his work.
