R-12 recharge in the SC upstate??

So i'm tired of sweatin my *** off in the FC. the previous owner took out the drier/reciever in the a/c system, so it's empty. I bought the reciever, but now I'm trying to find someone who can recharge the system. I called a few places but they don't do r-12 anymore. Anyone know of a place in the greenville/spartanburg area? Or does any freeze 12 users wanna help me out?

if you've got a fresh system converting it to r-134 isn't that hard or expensive. they sell the kits at advance and o'reilly

well i was searching and am concerned that the pressure from 134 might blow a line. at $40/lb. I'd hate to have to replace a line and refill it again..

$40? I work at Firestone and it cost $16/lb. You can buy the cans probably less than that. If your not familiar with a/c work try to find a buddy or someone that will do work on the side. To much freon will make a system not work as fast as not enough freon.

well i did some more searching and found that www.es-refridgerants.com has a r12 replacement as well, was thinking about going and having the lines flushed and vacuummed, then putting this stuff in.

Anyone tried this?

never tried

please do a search I have noted some people have tried various replacements and did not like the results. I think there is something posted here last april or may.

it is always best to fix the system then pull a vacuum and see if it holds the vacuum,,,then add the charge

I wouldn't put 134 in if just the drier was replaced. You would need to change all the seals and clean it out real well to work good.
