Just discovered this thread, picked up my FB a few weeks back and am in Eastern Georgia, we have any sort of a meet coming up soon?
There was a meet this past Tuesday at the Mall of GA Taco Mac. Next one is Tueday April 3rd at the same spot, 6:30/7 PM ish.
There will be a meet sometime next week at the Johns Creek Taco Mac, it will be on either Monday or Wednesday around 7 PM. Look up the Facebook group 'Dinner and Doritos' to get the info.
I fixed my irons with some JB weld and an old apex seal spring today. I'll be ready for DGRR for sure.
Ray you are the rotary god prophet; what did I do to displease them so much that I had three cracks in my irons?!?
On a side note, anybody know where they would classify this port job? Street port, large street port, or whatever. I didn't do it but it looked nice last time i was in the engine so I left it alone.
You get an A for imagination on that repair,my friend!
I did it about 5 or so years ago on my 6 port engine. 30 some thousand miles and then I sold the car and it never leaked. When I did it on that engine I used a side seal. Side seals need to be ground down to be thin enough. The apex seal springs are malleable and they are the right thickness worked way better.
I just can't get over how much rotary engines have skyrocketed in price over the past 5 years. I mean what happened??? Mazda quits making the RX8 and everybody looses their f ing minds. $300 for an iron... ONE IRON?!? I bought an engine with a pair of turbos for $200 4 years ago.

Ok, I have that one beat. A few years ago I got a 12A that was rebuilt with a full Atkins kit with 83 internals and 82 flywheel for $75.00. It had a bolt dropped in it right after the rebuild that chip a small part of the exhaust opening on exit and it also didn't seal up good. The owner was just tired of dealing with it and sold it. I'll be porting it and building a new engine from those parts in the future.
PS, as far as that Port goes James, I'd say that's a LARGE port:
What do the exhaust ports look like?
They were extended but I used another pair of housings last time I stuck the engine together. I ported the new housings to match. I'd say I took about 3mm off both opening and closing on the exhaust side to get it to match the old housings.
The car does MOVE with this engine when running. All feed by a weee Nikki and S4 turbo.
Do any of yall know if any aftermarket companies make all the weather stripping for an FB? I can not find anything.
Like the door seals? I typically buy the stuff from RA, but they don't last too long. I think next time I'll just cough up the money for the stuff from Mazdatrix.
Mazdatrix is amazing. They have saved my *** for random parts in the past. Fast shipping, but they like to charge you a ton for shipping. I NEEDED the little corner button rubber seals this past weekend. I turned to Mazdatrix and opted for the Priority shipping. Mazdatrix doesn't quote you on shipping, but I didn't have a choice so I was willing to pay whatever. BUT DAUM they charged me $30 for priority shipping on a $10 order.
SO long story short great parts availability fast shipping, but you're gonna pay.
