Ray, to do the 2GDFS, what exactly to I need to ask for on the 2nd gen WTB boards?
Ray Green quote.
It's quick, easy and works on the first crank of the key. Mike, Greg the Elder and I all have it, it's a right of passage for any serious OGTA member. If you can find a unit before the July 8 meeting, bring it along and we can install it in Jefferies parking lot. I got lots of replies just by placing a Want To Buy post in the second gen section, a good one should cost $20-$25 shipped.

Basically you want just the leading coil pack, that's the smaller one to the left in each of the photos below. It usually comes with the mounting base, which you can see in the photos. The base contains the 2G stock igniter and a resister, but you don't really need these or the base, the coil can be mounted directly and will be more compact if you do it this way (Greg the Elder has his mounted without the bracket, he even made a movie that I'll try to find).
Here's a good looking one for $25, a bit high but it looks like it's in real good shape:

Here's another, I offered the guy $20 shipped, if he PMs me I'll get back to you.

Or better just post a WTB for a 2G leading coil pack, you should get lots of offers.
Here's a movie of my 2GDFI installation, Greg's movie turned out to be his bee hive repair:

Are you going to be at jefferies on July 8? Should I bring the shaft and fan?

Here's the link to the second guy's post:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ight=coil+pack
He has the dirtier one pictured in the lower picture. He has PM'd me back and offered $30 shipped, which isn't bad if you can't find a better one for less. I told him I'd get back to him (or you will) in a day or two:
I PM'd the guy with the stuff in the first photo, it looks pretty good, but I haven't heard back from him yet.
Here's his post:

If I were you I'd first post a WTB in the SE parts forum, that way you might find one local. And post a WTB on the 2nd gen site, you'll get lots of offers. Or maybe just seal the deal with those guys above for $30 with shipping, if you can get that top one it would be a great deal and the bottom one will probably be fine.
Crit, you ready to upgrade your SE to 2GDFI yet?

Welp, thanks for the motivation. New battery is in, and it appears I have a truck again. Before the new battery I was having issues with power loss with the A/C on. New battery seemed to clear that up too. Guessing either electrical issues due to bad connections on the battery, or the alternator was working too hard.
Now I just need the motivation to finish wiring the electric fan on the FB

Nope, the Silver One needs to wait for the Red One. But she's coming along just fine, lots of spray paint and imrovements. When she comes on road you are the number one test driver.
Do you think Cathy can infiltrate with the Jeep? I think it's a government vehicle.
Oh yeh Tim, congrats on the battery! I got the FB wiring diagrams if that will help. (0f course I could have said you should have stuck with the clutch fan, but I won't).
Looks like another rotary overdose coming up. Sounds good to me.

Yeah, the only reason I went to the electric fan is because the clutch on mine went bad. The e-fan has been working fine for me until lately. We have it temperature controlled to do the low speed, which is perfectly fine except when I'm using the air conditioning while sitting in traffic. The temp will start to creep. I think it creeps a little bit then get out of that sensor's range and it shuts off (or tries to use a 2nd fan or something). So I'm just wiring up a relay and switch to use high speed. I wanted a switchable fan to use in between laps/runs anyway, just hadn't gotten around to it.

Well that was anti-climactic. Finished wiring the fan today. Just a 30 amp relay with a switch inside the cabin to run high speed. Low speed is still done by temp sensor. Got it all done, flipped the switch, and the stupid thing worked. No sparks or anything. (I hate electrical stuff)
And yes Crit, wiring that to +12v was the correct way. It's still a puller. Pulls a ton of air too.

For those running the PDX, have you read the new rules? It appears we are using the Atlanta region rules. If so, yeah, I'll pass. Back when I ran it with the FD, it was drive safely, passing only on point bys. Now, I believe it is cannot use the curbs, 95mph speed limit (probably 85 in the FB since I can't see anything higher), and I think some other crap.
Sucks, because the PDX used to be a good cheap way for some fun track time. More like touring laps now. Granted, they did have a decent amount of people hit the walls back then (guy in front of me did).

All those running the PDX will have a blast. They will provide you an instructor to help work on breaking points, proper lines and such. It will be a great time, without the fear of trashing your car!
Tim, for the door to door stuff, get your comp license an run the SARRC, ProIT or ECR.

By the way, Tim, if you've drivein Road Atlanta before, you aren't held to the same passing restrictions as the noobs. Passing is only with a point-by, but so what. You don't really want to ball up someone else's car, do you? You (Tim) can pass anywhere on the course if I know you're there, and my instructor will have his eyes in the rear-view too. I (noob) can pass only on the main straight, but I'm too slow anyway

Not looking for door to door racing out of a pdx. The last one we did was a blast. We had passing only by point by on the 2 straights (not even between 5 & 6) which I think is the right way to do it. I had the FD out there, didn't want some idiot balling it up.
The curbing and speed restrictions are disappointing. My instructor REQUIRED me to use the curbing. The right line is over the curbing, especially in 3 & 5. Also, his fear was if you don't get used to how the curbing feels, you may be out on a track by yourself one day, accidentally touch the curbing, and freak out with bad results.
The 95 limit in the FD would just be a little disappointing
. I didn't run flat out last time, but I was still carrying about 125 into 9. I didn't trust the brakes to bring me down from 140.
I'm sure you will all still have a good time. It's just a shame to see it change from what it was, exactly as Holly pointed out. The guy who wrecked when I was there was driving like an idiot on the warm up lap, so I let him pass. I pull up on the next corner and there he is in the wall. Too fast on cold tires (still probably only about 80mph though).
Just remember, don't lift in 12 and thank your workers
.
Oh yeah, one more thing to check. Not sure how loud your car is Billy, and can't remember if Crit changed his exhaust, but they are run during the quiet hours during church time. They are very strict about noise compliance. No big deal, they are just being good neighbors, just be preparred for that going in or they'll yank you quickly. They'll lose the whole event if people are breaking it. So make sure you read that part of the supps.
On a completely unrelated note Crit, Steph should be having her kid this evening.
