Kristy wants that REPU, then asks for a loan from me, then she said give her the money. I dunno, I don't think I can be that great of a Mom, even though her birthday is June 6th. Maybe she can take early donation birthday gifts of $100 cash each.

I have a question for the FB gurus. What years have a engine wiring harness that is able to be used in my 81' FB. There are a couple of 83' gsl's up by me that have full harness' but I don't want to kill myself taking out one that won't interchange.

Thanks guys.

Dave

any from a 12a car should work. can't see too many differences if any especially emissions related. then there's the heat/ac controls depending on options. but i'm sure one harness fits all with some plugs used and some not, again, depending on options. like with power mirrors/windows, even if the door wiring isn't there, the connection to the main harness is still there.

I have some 84/85 GSL harnesses already extracted that I could mail your way if that will work Dave. There are two or three different ones, as I recall and they make a pretty good sized heap when all piled up together. And you are right, getting them out is no fun. Probably about half as much fun as putting them back in.

From what I have been told,I have figured out that 84 and later FB's switched to a passenger side connection for the harness instead of the earlier drivers side connection. So a SA-83 harness should work for me. If anyone has one of those laying around let me know. Or I am headed to the yard later in the week to extract one.

Although thinking aboutit now, the 84+ should work as I would have excess harness to deal with as long as the connector itself is the same. I will pull the dash and check the harness on mine this week and report back to you Ray. Thanks.

BS 30 min edit rule. Does the harness for the 84 come thru the firewall on the drivers side or passenger side Ray?

I'll go look.

Back in less than 30 minutes.

So there are wiring harnesses on both the driver's side and the passenger's side on my 85 GSL, the Silver One.

Of course one of those harnesses might be for the special features you can only find in 84/85 GSLs, like the OCD, the automatic repair functions and the Clarion sound system.

Is the harness coming from the passenger side just the 2 wire a/c harness? As long as the main engine control and headlight/ignition harness comes from the drivers side it should work. I will try to find a later model FB here and look as well. If you could snap a pic of yours Ray that would be great. Your cars harness that is.

The passenger's side harness has the wires that go to the rat's nest, along with wires to the right headlight and AC. Here's photos, first three of the passenger's side, second three from the driver's side:

Dave having done many wiring harnesses on these cars i can tell you you will be better of getting one from the yard unless you have endless hours of spare time to trace wires and you still need to use most of the factory plugs as the harness is actually three different harnesses ,main [the one you need ] dash harness and body harness . in short get the one out of the yard

Yeah but Holly, if you get the REPU for Kristy you will get to borrow it anytime you want. I'm just saying, it would be a nice addition to the family...

Dave Gene is right of course about the correct harness, which makes the 100 lbs. of 84/85 GSL wiring harnesses I have out in the shed pretty much worthless. Darn, I'd like to move that stuff.

Anybody up for Chinese tomorrow? I need to celebrate my raise.

Ray & Gene- Yes, I do believe that I will find the correct harness. Given all the other things powered through that harness I don't want to mess with it. I have made my own before for motorcycles and I swore I would never do that again. Thanks for the info guys. Let me know if you happen to run into one down there before I get to the ones I know of.

Ray- You should use that "extra" income from your recent increase in revenue to buy Kathy a nice 81' FB painted the color of her choice. I will make you an amazing deal! Let me know. She would love it.

'Cept they don't fit right. See how they buckle on the sides? Anybody got a fix for that?

13B yes (with a carb), FC no, too complicated, too modern and too heavy.

Dave, I'll start working on Cathy about her "Birthday FB", I'm going to need to find a subtler strategy than what I used for the REPU, that didn't work at all.

The color would be white, of course.

Anybody headed to the Hunan today at noon?

Sounds good to me, but then Chinese always sounds good to me. Anyone else interested?

See ya'll at Crit and Dena's Lake House Boozer. That is, if the world doesn't end on Saturday like it's supposed to.
