Well, my help had to go home today... but we managed to drop the exhaust, drain the gearbox, unbolt the driveshaft and break loose the crossmember bolts (Thanks, Crit!) and remove the starter... sadly, that's it. Before work tomorrow I'll probably unbolt my slave and pull the shifter. Gonna have to wait until I have an extra pair of hands to get teh gearbox out of the car. After that it's like two seconds of work and put it all back together.

On a side note, my gear oil was absolutely disgusting! Was thick almost like pudding before you set it in the fridge for five minutes.. lots of muck at the bottom... Totally rotten. Probably wasn't helping anything.. Then again the coastal crap I'm gonna put back into it isn't amazing either. But at least it's new.

Is everyone ready for some fantastic news?

....are you...?

huh?

HUH?!

Drum roll, please..

My mom got accepted into the Albany School of Pharmacy up in Vermont!

Which brings me to some bad news..

I might move!... y'all are gonna' miss me for sure, right?

*****. I got under the 'vert and bench pressed that **** right out, then slid it off of me. And that's with the duct taped driveshaft still hanging off of the end. You can do it! If you need any help Monday night or Tuesday I'll ride up there and give you a hand. I'm dedicating tomorrow to the FC, since I got these to motivate me today...

And don't you love the block behind them? lol

But yeah, Collin, that'll stink if you really do move. Just think of what VT would do to your cars... That should be enough to make you really think it over

Need to catch up on this thread....

Ray: Aug 1, ????

Collin, trust me, Vermont sucks. Weekends were cool if you were into winter sports (skiing/snowmobiling), but other wise, meh. I hated the fact the street lights would be coming on on my way home from school during the winter.

You lived in Vermont?

I am missing a good chunk out of my pilot bearing. Upon removing my clutch I found a needle wedged between my clutch disc and pressure plate... removed the old bearing and not only am I missing 1/4 of the needles, but I'm also missing the little dividers that hold them in place. I was extremely careful putting the puller into the e-shaft to remove the bearing, so I doubt this damage occurred while removing it.

Crit, the pilot bearing in the box had a cute little seal beneath the baggie. I'll use that one so I don't open the baggie containing the other seal.

I'm trying to decide if I should be ordering a release bearing too. Had a bit of grinding/squeaking going on while clutching in on occasion that also lasted while re-engaging the clutch on take off.

That of course means waiting longer to put the car on the road.

Collin, I can probably help get your mom into pharmacy school at the Mercy School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Atlanta (that's where I work). Our program ranks #32 in the nation among pharmacy schools, whereas the Albany School of Pharmacy (in Albany NY, not Vermont) ranks #56. Check this link for the listings:

http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsa...hools/rankings

There is also a new pharmacy school opening up in Suwanee this fall called PCOM School of Pharmacy, it's about a mile from Jeffery's so your mom would find it very convenient to attend our monthly meetings on her way home from school.

And Tim is right, Vermont is cold, dark and very liberal, nothing but skiers and Democrats up there. (I lived in western Massachusetts for twenty years, just across the border). And yes you will be very much missed if you move to Vermont.

Nice work on the pilot bearing, that's a bitch of a job but very satisfying when you get it done.

Ray, she's got an interview at Mercer on Friday morning. She doesn't need or really even want to go but she's going to just so she can probably get accepted there too and brag about it lol

The job is not complete.. Currently the gearbox and all related parts to the job are in my garage on the floor while I consider whether or not the throw out bearing is a necessary replacement. I really should since I'm already in there but it probably won't be here by the weekend when I have time to work on it again.

I didn't live in VT (my brother did though). I lived in western Mass. It's all pretty much the same though anyway. Dark, cold, miserable (with the exception of the fact I like to ski/snowmobile). Wow, this is making me even more excited to go there on Thursday!

I think I have interviews on Friday morning, wouldn't that be a kick if they assigned me to interview your mom Collin?

Tim, why are you going to Vermont? Someone got a 12A for sale up there?

Ray, I'm from NC not SC! I see I'm 20 years younger now too! Wow!

Collin, bite the bullet and replace the TO bearing as well, its cheap and you'll be kicking yourself if you have to pull it apart in the winter in Vermont next year. Also replace the front shaft bearing seal as well.

Autozone and advance will have it next-day. Many are open until 10pm. No reason to wait. I may have one, too

Collin, looks like you've run out of excuses, get your *** in gear and put that TOB in before the next meet, which is on Feb. 2, 2010. Jeffery's the usual place.

Do that FSBS while you're at it, Tim the Elder knows where he's been.

By the way, Collin, it's good to heat of all the carnage you've found. Seems pretty clear that your pilot bearing was the problem. Fortunately, you removed the tranny to get to it rather than the engine. It's tough to hang an engine on the front of a mounted tranny without destroying the bearing. Just remember to lift and wiggle the tranny, and let it find its way in. If you force it or use the bellhousing bolts to draw it tight, you could jam up the new bearing.

Regardless, well done.
