Old guys with 12As club meeting
#8976
Priority on the calendars will go to the folks who show up in a first gen (it is a first gen calendar, after all) and who have the longest OGTA track record. Also I'd like to get a group photo of the winners with their calendars opened to their favorite picture, so this will take some coordination, hopefully all the winners will be available around 7:00 - 7:30.
I only have ten of them ordered but I'll make a wait list just in case they are not all spoken for. Here's what we've got so far, although there are no guaranties that everyone will show up, so we can add a few more FB drivers to the top of the wait list just in case they can make it Tuesday night:
1. Ray
2. Holly
3. Mike
4. Billy
5. Crit
6. Greg the Elder
7. Chris, if he wants to be on the list and can make the meeting
8. Quad, if he can get Nightmare to show up
9. Donnie
10. Troy
Wait list:
11. Michael
12. Colin

Hey Ray, Billy posed a great question to me this afternoon. If someone went back and added up all the points from the OGTA meets, who would the leaders be? Anybody care to figure it out?

Well at least it will be sunny on Tuesday!
Crit, the leaders would be you and me, of course, with Mike Simonovich pulling a close third.
Billy, do you mean the rear hatch seal? I should have one of those in good shape, I'll bring it along. Also do you still need those front suspension brackets?
Current Calendar List for the Jan 5 2010 meeting:
1. Ray
2. Holly
3. Mike
4. Billy
5. Crit
6. Greg the Elder
7. Chris, if he wants to be on the list and can make the meeting
8. Quad, if he can get Nightmare to show up
9. Donnie
10. Troy
11. Greg the Younger
Wait list:
12. Michael
13. Colin

Good News folks! Brett's weather forecast is wrong, it's gonna' be a balmy 36 degrees and sunny on Tuesday, not 32!
Also, the Cubans have it all over us when it comes to Old School auto mechanics. This from this morning's NY Times:
Auto repair for the island's vintage cars is a creative endeavor: shampoo is used for brake fluid; iron pipes are cut up for piston rings; Coca-Cola is used to loosen rusty bolts; and cars are painted with sponges, then buffed with toothpaste. "We call it the Cuban way," said Abel Contreras de la Guardia, a translator and tour guide. "We do anything to keep our cars running."

7. Chris
8. Quad, if he can get Nightmare to show up

Billy, got you covered on the parts, all the animals are healthy right now so expect me to show up this time.
Here's the deal on the calendars, I bought 10 for a multiple order discount price of $155 ($120 for the calendars, $35 for second day shipping so they will be here for the Tuesday meet; they are usually $18 each, $15 for the calendar, $3 shipping). I am pleased to be able to offer the first 10 as a New Year's gift to the OGTA's, but I had to draw the line somewhere (I was originally thinking of just 5, which would have been $65 plus shipping).
But now with Michael, Colin, Greg the Younger, Romulo and Ben on the waiting list (and probably others), I'm thinking 10 calendars may not be enough. I might be able get Chris to extend the multiple deal ($12 each, nominal shipping if not done priority) but Cathy will kill me if I also extend my budget on this (she might even kill me when she finds out about the first 10). Of course I'd have to check with Chris first to see if this is OK.
So has anybody got any clever ideas on how to finance more calendars so all interested OGTA's can get one? Maybe if we ask for an optional $5.00 donation per calendar to offset the purchase of another 5-10 calendars?

Or we could set up some test of driving skill (or rotary knowledge), charge an entry fee, and offer calendars and/or other swag as prizes. Entry fees pay for the prizes. We'll have to be careful here, as all the ideas that come to my mind are decidedly extra-legal in nature :-)
Cheers,
Troy

I knew I could count on you guys.
I don't think the new Jefferies will mind if we set up a few cones in the lot, they're looking for business.

I'm also all for a donation. I'm gonna try to fire up and drive Nightmare around the block tomorrow to warm her back up, but I just don't know if I'll be able to. Does it count if I have Nightmare towed to the meet?
