PA? Thats far far away. What's up there?

So tomorrow if I'm not a lazy *** I'm working in the morning and coming home and starting on the 5-lug swap tomorrow evening and finishing with some 'family involvement' on the 4th. I'm totally going to paint the calipers a nice red and sand the paint off of the raised MAZDA symbol and clear over it so it's silver And I'll be rocking those sawblades that used to be gold until I can afford some rubber for my 17's. Speaking of affording ****, I'm getting some financial aid **** straight and talked to some family, so there's a possibility that I won't need any student loans this year!

Yeah, but even if you do have to take on student loans, I'd consider it money well spent. Of course, the U.S. Military will send you to school for free, if you're so inclined.

Kevin, you know that it snows all the time in PA and a few years ago they had a multi year drought that made our recent one look like a rain event. The average lifetime of a car up there is about 2 years due to the salt on the roads.

WHY??????????????????????????????

Hope things are OK, congrats on #6000 and here's a recent post on price trends for 1st gen RX-7s, the Red One should do pretty well, I think $2,000 is fair:

https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-general-discussion-207/fyi-recent-sales-price-trends-first-generation-rx-7s-848604/

Brett in some ways paying for college is good, it makes you aware of how valuable an opportunity you have (I took school way more seriously when I was paying for it and grades started to matter). Also the financial aid offices see independent students supporting themselves in a more favorable light. After my 1st year in college, I declared financial independence from my parents (I was 19, they couldn't claim me as a tax credit any more and weren't forking over that much support anyway) which meant that when I filed the FA forms my income put me in the lower poverty levels. This resulted in plenty of GRANTS (not loans) that pretty much limited my college expenses to living expenses during the undergrad years. (I was paid to go to grad school, which pretty much took care of living expenses as well). And as Crit points out, there is always the military option.

Anyone have an impact wrench I could use today or tomorrow? I am replacing the water pump on my son's 626 and I am having problems breaking the motor mount bolt loose.

It is a top mount that connect the front of the motor to the passneger side wheel well (wrong wheel drive). The Haynes manual says to loosen the motor mount bolt through the rubber bushing first, then the bolts that actual attach the mount to the motor. But it seems to me if I loosened the bolts attached to the motor first I could get the weight of the motor off the motor mount. The motor is supported by a jack. This might make it easier to break loose the bolt going through the rubber bushig. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Can you talk him into an FB? Easier to work on, more fun to drive.

Sooooo, that wasn't much help.

I have a heavy 1/2 breaker bar and sockets, if you can get that on it. I also have a pneumatic impact wrench, but you'd need a compressor (mine's the large size, we could get it in Michelle's boinger bus if necessary).

I'm home today and until Tuesday, got a meeting in Suwannee that day.

I have a 1/2 breaker bar and I have a dead blow hammer. I can move the bolt. The problem is the nut moves too. The nut has no faces. It is round with a tab that is suppose to keep it from turning. The tab bent and of course the nut is not in a place that I can get to easily. This had to be Ford design. I can't see Mazda engineers doing this.

Thanks anyway. I'll give it one more shot. If it doesn't work, its time for a beer.

Sabine left me stranded on the side of I-85 today.

Was on my way to help Chris with his brakes, and around the Hamilton Mill exit I noticed my temperature gauge had gone to 3/4 and wasn't stopping, so I immediately pulled over and shut it off, popping the hood to check what was up. My heater core to block hose was leaking at the heater core end, leaking bad. I grabbed my screw driver and tightened the clamp a bit more just until it stopped leaking and waited for it to cool enough to remove the filler cap. Thankfully I'd stopped and bought a 1litre smart-water before leaving Jefferson and hadn't yet had any... Used that and limped it slowly to Exit 115 and pulled into Starbucks because it was closer than any of the gas stations. All the time the motor was dead set at half on the temp gauge. While waiting for the engine to cool down, I was busy collecting the store's milk jugs full of water and whatnot. I filled and bled the system, and drove home...temp sitting at half or just slightly less...but not before I noticed something as I was burping the system. Microbubbles...lots of them. Like champagne worthy... and it was kinda foamy too.

It just figures. I'm sick of putting **** into this car. It refuses to be even halfway reliable...and it's not like the hose that gave way was old...it was a relatively new, proper, molded hose with new clamps and tightened appropriately.

So I got home, went to autozone, bought a length of hose and some clamps and bypassed the heater core entirely in a very ghetto fashion. Hose comes out the block, goes up, over and behind the intake manifold, and connects to the other coolant pipe. Not sure how long that'll last.

Temp sat at half on my test drive...though it eventually cooled to between 1/4 and 1/2...tried driving a bit hard to see what'd happen, and it didn't seem like it was getting any hotter.

-Shrug- I'll try and make it with her to zoom fest. Past that, it's debatable.

So OK, I'm going back to what I originally said Mike, you should ditch the 626 and buy Kevin's red car. Then have a beer.

Now Collin, I don't think you are eligible for beer yet, but I'll bet a nice cool and frosty FB would go good right about now.

On the contrary, Ray, I'll take a Magic Hat #9 or Hocus Pocus.... Hell, I'd even take a cold Lucky Cat right about now.

We'll see how she acts over the next few days, but I'm sure something is fucked.

I know it's worth it even if I've got to borrow money... I'm determined to be the first person get a college degree in my family, so not going isn't really a choice Did you get that PM about the OMP injector plugs?

I'm actually getting the papers and death certificates and what not together so I can get a little more financial aid. I'm getting things squared away so I can get a shot at a grant or two... I'll just see when all these papers get finished .

If all fails, chop the springs to slam it and put stickers everywhere and sell it on craigslist for 2500 Not really... you'll get it figured out and then you'll be like 'this is the best car ever', don't worry!

When is this guy gonna get the vert???

Well front brakes are done, getting new collars and rear oil seals on Black Dragon's 3-7 day shipping (they have a warehouse in GA so I'm thinking it'll be like 3 or 4 days) and I'm going to ask off for Saturday to go up to billy's and he will help me press the old bearings and collars off as well as press the new ones off.thanks again billy, I know planning out ZF is taking up most of your precious free time but I'll try and get as much prep work done as possible.
