GSL-SE and Non GSL-SE have the same fuel tank. The external fuel pump is different.
Now the 79 tank will work but he will need an external gsl-se pump or an aftermarket one.
If he has the GSL-SE front cover, engine mount, and oil pan he will be ok.
As for wiring the GSL-SE electronics in, it was easy on a 85 12a. But on a 79 I am not sure.
The 79 did not have the computer in the floor board, and has alot more junk wiring than a 84-85 FB.
Both rear ends should be a 4:10 pattern. I would use the small bearing if he keeps the stock 79 front end to keep all the bearing easy to remember.
Now if he swaps out the front end to the large bearing spindles to use the RESPEED front TII big brake kit I would say use the other big bearing rear end.
If I was going to go thru all the work to put in a GSL-SE motor I would go ahead and upgrade to the S5 intakes and TB while I was at it.
Once Frank figures out the wiring then he can help me put in my S5 TII motor I have waiting to go in my 79 sa.

The title comes from an expression from my early teen (pre-drivers license) days. At the time it was typically applied to something like a Chevy 409. More recently, I saw a National Geographic program about baboons. The alacrity displayed when a leopard leaped into the middle of them gave new meaning to the old phrase.
After I had decided that the car ran well (Part 2b), I took it to Mitch Piper and had him fabricate a stainless steel exhaust system that would let the turbo motor be all it could be. This was in anticipation of a trip to PFSupercars for tuning.
An admission of fallibility: I had intended to upgrade the engine control system on the RXX-7 ( http://www.cris.com/~Asam/20B.html ) and bought an Electromotive Tec3 for that purpose. Silly me. For a 3-rotor, you need a Tec3r, so I found myself with a spare Tec3. Recalling the old saying - When life hands you lemons, make lemonade - I decided to put the Tec3 on the ResurreXion-7.
The bad news: Ray takes a long time. Four-and-a-half months in this case.
The good news: 390 rwhp.
Ray does real good work.

The HKS turbo broke on the dyno, so Ray replaced it with a Garrett 35GTr. He
also added 1600 cc secondary injectors. The Centerforce Dual-Friction clutch gave up at 15
psi, so we had to dial it back down to 14 psi. All's well that ends so very well, though.
And it's nice to know there's more available if I need it.
By Murphy's Law, he delivered this pavement-mauling monster in the winter, and I got it home just as the snow began to fall. On the way, I was forced - FORCED, I tell you - to pass some drivers who were right-foot-challenged. [insert evil laugh] There were some reports of low-flying UFOs in the next morning's newspaper. However, the wide tires that did so very well on dry pavement were less than ideal for snow and ice. Recalling that I had mud-and-snow tires on my old, stock BBS vert wheels, I got some adapters and put them on the car.

The relatively narrow tires (215 x 60 x 15) won't allow peak performance - at 60 mph, stepping on the gas will break them loose, but they'll be better in the snow. This is, after all, a daily driver. With a light foot on the accelerator, the car is a pussycat. With a heavy foot, it turns into a tiger. I guess you could say it's purrrrrfect.
I took the car to the local agricultural scales and weighed it. With a curb weight of 2540 lb. (1360 front, 1180 back) and 390 rwhp, I think that the answer to the Part 3 question is "Yes". We'll have to wait for better weather and a trip to the track to be sure. Testing is sooooo very important.
Those who are familiar with my other car may have noted that the horsepower for this, 2-rotor motor is more than that for the 3-rotor. To forestall questions, I'll note that it's an apples-to-oranges comparison. The 2-rotor has a big, single turbo and 1600 cc secondary injectors. The 3-rotor has the stock twins and stock 550 cc secondary injectors. If I modded the 3-rotor to the same level as the 2-rotor, it would put out about 700 hp. Hmmmm--700 horsepower. Holly, I will be doing something that will make mine harder than most do. I want to run the S5 engine harness so I can run the S5 ECU as well. My thinking behind that is so i can run a Poer FC on that car since I have one on my FD. This will keep me in the power fc mode instead of trying to learn power fc and another ECU for the 1st gen. Not only that but I have all the S5 harnesses so it is cheaper until I upgrade it to a power fc down the road.
Also I want to keep all the interior lights, and accessories that the car has.
Basically I want it to look like it came off the Mazda line with that motor in it from the factory.
Most of the 1st gen conversions have other ECU's in them and all of the wiring not hooked up.

Hey OGTA crew! What's happnin? I wanted to announce a meet being held at my house on April 5th( sunday) This will be a double header meet as it will be our April meet AND a Birthday bash for myself. I wanted to get this out soon enough that maybe some of the OG's could make it up for an official visit as a group.
I plan to have a group seafoam party to cloud out the hood and **** off the neighbors that are complaining about my 7's as well as burnout contests in my driveway

And I think I'll spend my extra cash on these two things...
And I really want this, but I can't justify that much cash right now for something I could go without...
The strut bar is $74 shipped and $117 shipped for the camber adjuster, so $191. Then maybe I can keep the same set of rear tires for more than 6 months Anyways, if someone thinks this is a stupid buy, tell me soon before I buy them sometime next week... I think it's good, but another's opinion wouldn't hurt anything.

Brett, you shouldn't be going through tires every 6 months with racing beat springs.... I'd say save for the sway bar(s), and get the adjustable piece if you feel necessary. The engine bay strut bar helps some, but not nearly as much as the sway bar(s) will. If you want some better shocks holler I might be selling the RB/AGX's off grace I jsut haven't decided yet.

I read that when it broke on Thursday, but I wouldn't call it a holy **** moment. It's still a long way off, they haven't announced any success with the 16X (just that they're testing), there's still no official word of the car, which would be unusual for a car that would debut in 2010, and we haven't seen any renderings or show cars. Don't start emptying the 401k yet.

If the new RX-7 is only offered with a DSG-like gearbox, then I'll definitely pass. I simply refuse to lower myself to driving like a lazy person...half the fun is the shifting! Especially if it boils down to me buying a brand new car, meaning long term commitment and investment...I'm going to get what I please. No compromises. I recently spec'd out a Porsche Cayman S...everything I wanted, but nothing I didn't. $80,000. Worth it? **** yes. If I could afford it now, I would go for it. That's not to say that my belief is not everyone else'....'if you can afford it, get what you want'... But I won't buy a car that doesn't allow me the simple pleasure of rowing thru the gears. End of story.
Edit: To be completely fair....Those DSG gearboxes are really great. They're just not a true manual...and never can be. I'm well aware that around a racing circuit they're far more efficient than a manual setup, but still. Also, take a look at the new 370z...with it's 'manual' gearbox that will rev-match for you upon downshifting to make you look like a hero. Screw that ****, I'm goin' home!

That PLUS since those springs drop the car a little, and every bushing is toast, my tires have terrible camber issues, so the outside of the rear tires have thousands of miles left on them and the insides are showing belts. So hopefully the link will help me out there.
And I'm still deciding about the strut bar... I've been told by many people that sway bar's dramatically improve everything imaginable. I'll ponder some more on that.
AND I requested off March and April's OGTA meets, and it's warmer so I wont have an excuse not to come this time.
