Talking New(er) to South Florida - Help, please!

So, I moved to South Florida about two years ago and finally have time to give my FD the love it deserves. I blew my T78 setup in college and swapped in an LS1, for background. I'm seeing some brown/black smoke in the interior (seen rising from defrost vent, seems to be coming from dash) on the passenger side. I'm thinking it is probably an electrical issue (thanks moosejaw), but I'm terrible with electrical issues.

I will be working on my car all of Saturday afternoon and would love for some help OR if you don't really have time to or feel like helping, you could always stop by to introduce yourself and say hey. I have been dying to meet some fellow 7 owners/enthusiasts down here. I live in Turtle Run in Coral Springs. If you have time to stop by and say hey or to help, please let me know! :-) I'll shoot you my number.

Thanks in advance.

Craig

Also, just found out yesterday about the meet last Saturday that was less than two miles from me. :-(

Thanks a lot. Like I said, I'm not going to mess around. I'm going to pull out the whole dash and investigate. Thanks for doing a search for me. Was planning on doing one tonight. Know your plans for the weekend yet? Would love for you to stop by, even if it's not in your FD just to meet you.

If anyone is bored and wants to stop by to introduce themselves and/or work on my car with me, I'd love to have you over (with or without your 7). I'll be working on her until 6 or 7. Give me a call @ 734.751.7575.

I know you would...no worries. I pulled out the dash out and haven't found anything. I started to remove the HVAC system, but I didn't know what I was doing and got a little coolant leak (guessing I was pulling on some hoses, accidentally). So, I'm on here trying to find some removal instructions. I'm thinking that it's more than likely the coolant hose that runs through the heater core. But I'll be able to see more electrical stuff after I remove the HVAC system. I guess I'll be working on it quite a bit this week.

I have a month to get her all back together and running because my car needs to be out of the garage of my current apartment by April because our lease is up. We have two weddings in that time period, so it's going to be tough. haha

Check your belts also, I had smoke coming in through the vents because one of my belts was worn. It only happened when I ran the fans though, this wasn't on an FD but my crappy mustang daily. Do you smell burning, usually electrical smoke has a metal smell to it.

My belts are all new, so I don't think it's a belt. I don't remember what it smelled like, to be honest; it has been so long (totally neglected my car the last year). I'm not too familiar with how the A/C unit and heater core pull off the firewall, but I'm going to do my best. When I tried last weekend, I started to pull a heater core coolant hose loose, apparently, because I saw coolant leaking into the passenger footwell.

Also, I saw some fluid under my car when I pushed it back in the garage and I'm not sure what it was. It seemed like it was coolant, but I couldn't find out where it was coming from. I could really use a second set of eyes, so I was hoping someone would be able to come by who was competent. :-) haha

Coolant doesn't burn brown/black and smells sweet, so I doubt that is the problem but, always worth a check.
