Moderator, can you please elimnate any non-meet posts? This is part of the reason we never decide on an actual meet time and place until two days before the meet. Would you guys mind taking the Volvo chat to PMs?
RX-7 related matter: Kenneth, why would you fab an adapter when you can go to Auto Zone, O'Reilly's, etc and spend 5 or 6 dollars and BUY one?
Patriot's Point would be good for pics. Wild Wings is also good. At least they can seat all of us at one huge table.

Hooters in North Chuck (by the mall) does car shows on saturdays many times. The movie theater next door is closed, so there's a huge empty lot (although I don't have any cones )
Sticky fingers has a larger table or two as well.
Downtown, nowhere we can all park together (it's hit or miss at Battery Park) but a lot of good eats on King street.
If you're willing to drive more, there's a crabshack and some other stuff on Foley Beach and you can't beat the backdrop for car pics.
What date is this going down? I'm not back in school until the 12th, it would be nice to meet some folks.
PS - anyone have a spare 15" tire? I need something that will hold air, but that's it. It's to keep the wheel which is the bottom of my grinder stand from scraping grooves in the garage floor. I can trade a stock T2 size, usable, 16" tire.

If you can write simple stuff in basic, using a BS is pretty easy. Radio Shack sells a kit for $80 or so that has a good book, stamp development board, and a servo (just need a PC with a serial port) although the servo is a bit smaller than what I'd want for an automotive control. Would be easy to build the proof-of-concept, though. Taking RPM from the trailing coil is pretty easy too - I think there's even sample code for it.

Folly Beach might be a good idea, Mike! I'd love to get some good shots with the camera.
As for cones...I'll see if I can come up with anything. How many do you figure we need? Full out track or just set up a couple of apexes? I wonder how local law enforcement will feel about it?

I just need 1 tire; if you've ever seen a tool stand with a wheel as the base, that's what I'm talking about.
cones: slalom and a chicago box would need about 15 at least. Full course - last one we laid out for the MSCCNC autox school used about 300.
Not sure about the LE response. No no-trespassing or no-parking signs, but from experience I know the po-po gets aggravated when they hear squealing tires.
Folly Beach, turn left, go down to the rocks/surfers. Shouldn't be too packed now since the water is getting a bit nippy even in a suit.

I'll take a look at WalMart tonight and see what the cones would cost. Maybe just use enough for slalom and maybe J-turns or something at the end.
I figure they'll simply ask us (nicely or not) to leave and we will. Shrug. I'm game if you guys are.

Look at home depot/lowes - they sell 18" cones which are the right size.
Minimal slalom = 5 cones.
chicago box = 8 cones
do a simple slalom, have a pivot cone, then back through the slalom?

That would work. Wal Mart only had the cones that are close to a foot high. 4 for 3.50.
It wouldn't be too bad to get about a dozen, I guess. Gives a few more options. If we get froggy, we could run the slalom both directions and then the box as the last part...

are you guys serious? i think the cops would kick us out in minutes without any sort of written approval. maybe if we found a parking lot out in the boonies, but not in north chucktown, with one of the highest cop to citizen ratios in the nation. i dont think it would be much fun getting hit with a wreckless driving ticket
but yeah as mentioned in the dec meet thread, im all for a track day. I believe roebling road is still doing the seat time events, where you can do 20 minute sessions on the track as long as you have an instructor in the car with you. ive always wanted to try this, the only problem is its kinda pricey last time i checked.

If we want to do autocross or drifting, why not meetup during an actual autocross or drift event? myrtle beach has weekly legal drift sessions for pretty cheap

Derek, are you actually in the area? Like, with a job and all?
