I77 & I40 Crossroads rotary meet
#1901
Hey you guys thinking about coming down to the Atlanta area for the June 7th OG@TA meeting, would you prefer to meet at my house in Jefferson, about 1 hour your side of Atlanta, or at Crit's house in Suwanee, near the usual Jefferies meeting place? We are trying to decide which would be best.

the report from the drive home in the FB.. Started up fine and once it warmed up for a minute would take throttle without coughing. So I started home. Got to about 40 mph and the entire car felt like it was going to shake apart Something in the drivetrain has a HUGE imbalance of sorts. Whether it is the diff going south, tranny etc.. don't know yet. But if i took it out of gear and coasted down the hill, the vibration remains, which leads me to the major drivetrain components. All the rear lights worked I was told by the wife. Time to do some cleaning up and looking around. Only problem I had was when i started it, the original 27 year old fuel line started to leak. Imagine that!! So 1.18 cents later I was on the road home Updates as I find things with the car.

Kudos to Josh. He read the post about vibration, While on the phone he said.." I'll bet it is the u-joints" Jacked the car up, got under and looked at the u-joints. About to fall apart there is soo much slop in it. Good call. Pics to come, Steering ball joints are blown out as well as most rubber things. Typical.
good call Josh,.. for the prize, you get to replace them

Hey Dave. I have two good 79-82 driveshafts here if you can use one. Cory, if you see any second gen coils, alternators, transmissions 86-88 NA, grab what you can. I have been looking for an early second gen trans for the turbo FB. Just us know what you score!

cool. Thanks Sam. I have still yet to get the old one out. The exhaust studs on the cat( where it is broken, not the header) PB has been soaking but it still rounded. Just got to bring home the cutting wheel tomorrow from work. I found a actuator in the rear bin. I will post a pic and maybe one of you FB gurus can tell me what it goes to.
Thanks again Sam.
Thanks again Sam.

Hey Kory, if that SA has the chromed plastic pieces on the door handles, could you grab those? The shifter boot and/or shifter surround too if it remains and isn't cracked. Thanks!
Beautiful looking FB there Dave. Curious about the wheels, didn't they have the + wheels in 81?

Thanks Jason,..
I got underneath and got the heat shields, rusted out exhaust, driveshaft out today after work. The u-joints on the shaft are seized in one direction and flop excessively in the other. Everything I have found so far is relatively cheap and available from advance thru moog and others. Slowly I will replace all the steering components that are worn. Grabbing the u-joints tomorrow and changing them at work on Tuesday. going thru the brakes tomorrow as well,..flush the fluid inspect pads/shoes,rotors/drums etc..Probably drop the oil and start figuring out what i can remove in the engine bay since the exhaust is going to be replaced.
More to come as it happens. pics will follow sometime.
Hey josh, Have you noticed any difference with the "new" intake?
What carb does the 81 have on it? A nikki? or ? Searching now, thought I'd ask.

Hey Dave, not sure why I didn't think of this earlier, but as far as right now I'm really not doing all that much so if ya wanna hand in the prep work on my car (or anything else) I'd love to "find" my way back to ya house and help out. I'll be gone all next week but after that i'm pretty much free mostly all day

Sure, any time. I am going to blast the hood down tomorrow and "deflame" the beast as well. Probably strip down the rear area to access the gas panel and see what the area looks like.
I'll take a photo journal of sorts for you and myself so we can have a little story book in the end. Gonna probably relax a bit this weekend. Been hitting it hard the first couple weeks back to workAnd we actually get the holiday off.
