You two alone have gone thru more motors than everyone in the group combined. I've had the same motor since 2006...don't even start that cocky *** **** with me. Yes you have made some very impressive power but nothing to get your head big about. You gotta problem with answering simple mechanical engineering based questions then find another major.

Anthony, quit letting DAVE start more crap here. What I posted was ment to be taken lightly as some motivation to get you guys wanting to do more stuff yourself, instead of relying on guys like Bryan, Josh, or myself.

I don't appreciate what I posted to be assumed at what I ment, then sent to Bryan as me trying to slam him. Nothing I wrote in that post was directed at Bryan or anyone for that matter.

So, for those who took offence to that post, I opoligize. But, maybe those offended need to quit assuming what my intent was.

That was done mainly because it was easier. Long and I believe we can gain the same benifit of the direct port without the disadvantage of the rediculous port timing normally associated with a PP. Naturally aspirated the high port closing moves the powerband high in the rpm range where the rotary would benifit.

Turbocharging a PP (and keeping it street driveable ) is the most effecient path of air flow. BUT, we want to put the powerband in a lower RPM range to retain some torque. This can only be done by putting the port timing closer to the 12A's stock side intake port timing.

josh, sam, that's a big step, definitely keep us updated on it, see how things turn out. worst comes to worst, **** won't work, but if it does then you guys have revolutionized rotary engineering once again.

on another hand, finally got an economic, very reliable, good running car to use as a DD so that i can start doing what i've always wanted to do to the rx-7. i think i'm gonna finish the suspension/handling then worry about engine. these cold days make me want to be F.I.

ok im gonna play middle man here and state that the fact of how many motors they have went through is just trial and error....they arent afraid to try new things, nothing wrong with that right??? thats why we drive rotaries!!!! we like to try new things!!!!(well technically new things as far as age goes haha!!!) im personally impressed at the work he does all considering he does it himself cause i dont have the resources (or the cajones) to try some of it haha and thats my career!!!......now that being said.......

All he did was ask a question and you did sound a bit cocky (which i would be proud of it too) but he was just looking for an explanation on the theory you and josh had come up with and i dont think he was trying to say anything about your work he was just wondering, thats what we are all here for yall!!!!!

Its all good LOL I did a LOT of research for/on the theory of the PP
And thats why I think the port timing I did is going to have the low rpm TQ of
a large street port,and the high rpm power of the PP. Here is how I came up
with my port timing.

That makes sense. I'm excited to see how that turns out for you guys, hell, might make enough power n/a you might not even need to throw turbos on there....(sarcasm). I've never tried this myself but have always been interested, but Solidworks (CAD modeling software) can do very sophisticated fluid dynamics modeling, such as air through ports. Sam I know you've done some work along those lines at your school and I sure as hell have, I'd be interested if modeling the rotor housings and running some air flow simulations could reek any benefits? This way any ideas can at least be simulated on the software before any housings are even touched. Something I think I'll try after I graduate, ie, have more time...

And Sam the reason I responded the way I did was because I took that comment as a direct insult to me and my questions towards Josh, but now that you have explained it I'm good, no need to drag this out any longer.

Interesting project doing a PP 12a.

Is this a semi-PP where your still using the intakes from the irons or
are you filling those in somehow?

If you fill them in, how are you getting a smooth surface on the filled
in intake ports?

Don't get all butt hurt just because I'm asking some questions now

No problem guys. I never want us to have any "personal" issues here.

Tim, as far your question, this is strictly going to be PP. The side ports on the irons will remain untouched per say. We will be making block off plates to be bolted on the outside if the original intake ports on the irons. If Mazda found this technique good enough for the 787B LeMans 4 rotor, I think that will do fine for our lttle project.

Now Anthony, for your question. Port velocity and volume will remain the same as any PP. The main differance is going to be port timing. This is crucial in deciding the power band and operating range of the engine. Another factor involved in deciding the operating range of the engine, is how it is balanced. Without having the rotating assembly lightened and balanced, we would not be able to take advantage of a standered PP port timing. Plus, this engine is going to be turbo. So with trying to keep the power band streetable in the 3500rpm to 9000 rpm range, we have decided that this port timing will be best suited for our plans for this engine.

Does this explain our intentions better?

A little rough start, but aluminum throughs chips faster than steel!!!!

The PP port iming versus the stock side port timing. I think that I am going to go just a little higher on the closing timing to put it closer to a street port timing.

I know that Chevrolet was goin to put a rotary in the corvette I think back in the 80's, so my best guess since u say it's not by mazda would be Chevy? I kno that sounds crazy as hell lol

Hey Anthony, try searching for AeroVette. Good guess, but that Rotary in the video is quite a bit older than even the Cosmo 110.

I almost finished the intake port on one housing and I started on the exhaust port.







Hey Long, I thought you might appreciate the shaved eyebrow look. Plus, that was really the only way that I could get those damn sparkplugs out.
