The Z is in Mocksville at a friends house. He has a used car lot side business. I think its a '77. One of the first year fuel injected. He says the car runs, but not well. He thought the ECU was bad and put another one in it. It didn't fix the problem. The car didn't look like a rust bucket, but I didn't feel like crawling around under it to investigate futher where it was sitting. The car would make a killer tribute to old school muscle.

Anyone have a FB radiator that does not leak? Mine pooped it's top seam today after i got back from PAP. trimming the efan to fit and I start to smell rad fluid. I turn aropund and look and there is a puddle on the top rim. I guess better here than on 85 on the way to Ga. If anyone has one I can grab it today if that works.

EDIT: You can have the one in my car if you have a S4 rad around.

I am looking up in the first gen section on that. You can put one in. Also with the aluminum rads, someone got 3 from Ebay, direct fit for 1st gens. Don't know if it was short or tall style, his name is kerebrus on the forums. Not sure if he sold them all though, Pop him a PM and tell him stu sent ya

EDIT: Yep, shorty style. Only thing is you have to get it shipped from Commiefornia if he has any. OVERNIGHT PARTS FROM JAPAN

There are 2 S4's at PAP I don't know if they have the rads anymore though. It split the seam in 3 places that I see when I squeez the hose Maybe I will have to pull it and head over to Fluidyne in Mooresville and see what they can do for me.

I believe it is C&D I am headed that way in the early AM to see if there is one there and still make it down to Hartwell. But it is looking doubtfull. Also headed to PAP again to see if there is one left there. They appear to have chucked one of the FC's that is there We'll see. This may just be when I call you up and say swing buy and help me tear it down for paint

Damn, Dave. Wish I had a spare rad. Do you want us to still stop at the vistor center, or just meet you at the lake (if you can make it)?
Stu: wish you could go. Did you get my pm a couple days ago about the '80 dizzy? Makes for a great MSD install. Let me know if you want it. I can ship it to you or give it to you the next time we are down.
Andre: Are you still planning on hitting the lake meet?
Kory: Are you coming down after work?
Seems like everyone is having bad luck lately. Hope to see some of you guys there.

I would say just head to the lake Kent. Horrible timing , but it could have been worse I guess. Hopefully I will find one in the AM and still make it down.
I even got a hair cut for the meet

The last time I visited the salvage yard in China Grove with Robby, I believe the two FBs there were both '83s. They are the tall radiator with the beehive oil cooler. Both of the S4s at PAP did not have a radiator in them. I snagged the oil cooler of one, but the other still had the oil cooler on it.

Dave,
Also check radiators.com. I picked up a new rad from them for my GSL-SE and it was like $140. Nomally they ship them from their local warehouses (get next day usually), but I asked them wherethe warehouse was and I was able to just pick up in person since I couldn't really wait another day to get it. I'm not sure if they carry the shorty rads or not, but worth a check.

Dave, is the radiator too far gone to be fixed? Statesville radiator can usually clean and repair them for about $40-$50 bucks. I am going to be needing a radiator for the SE soon. The top tank has come loose from both sides. It isn't leaking yet, but I don't see how it survive much longer.

I just pulled the rad out. I am headed to the local repair shop to see if they can repair it. It has a few cracks in the top tank seam that are probably due to corrosion. So what they can do for it may be limited. We'll see in about 1 hour

unless the rad is completely rotten, it should be repairable. the shop i used to work at wouldn't spend alot of time on repairing some of the older stuff. once u put the heat to them to repair one leak, u'd create others. the tank seams r the worst. by the time u finally get the seam sealed up, it took so much heat that it started leaks where the tubes go into what's called the header. that's the part that the tank is soldered to. g/l

Yeah that's what I am worried about. Age is a bitch on metal of any kind. And corroded metal is the straight devil. We'll see. I am going to need a good aluminum rad in a bit anyways so I may just do that.
I decided this morning that I am going to take this opotunity to strip the car down and go thru the entir thing. Since I have not done that since I bought it for 500 and have put more than 15k miles on it Awsome!! So The enginebay is getting gutted, striped/cleaned and repainted in new color. Going to be a fun resto project for a little bit. New rear end, brakes, paint all over. etc..
I gotta make a rotiserie for the shop. I would loove to ahev acces to the bottom of the car without being on my back.
