I just looked and they say if this keeps up Oil will be at $80 a barrel by June witch is going to translate to about 3.50-4.00 a gallon so unless the goverment quits going "Gas will go up and we arent doing **** about it " the oil companies are going to keep on raping us with this ****. The whole panic of we might be short of oil is getting on my nerves and they are trying to tell me its not an artificial shortage.

I'm 6'5" and a CRX has more legroom than any car I have been in. I couldn't push the clutch all the way in with the seat back all the way. headroom may have been bad, but it is in everything.

I daily my FD until I can get another ride. You want to know gas mileage and money. 60% of my paycheck goes to fuel. we are talking $45-50 a fill up twice per week if not short $20 spurts in between. I am in collage and it is a pain in the rear. I'm thinking of garaging her and just driving an econobox until I get out of collage.

I am thinking of getting a '97 Ford Probe GTS just for gas savings. Not only that it has a look alike appearance to my FD slightly. So I can think in my mind I'm driving a gas savings FD wannabe

Here is a could be pic of one. What do you guys think? Worth it or no?

gas prices are just going to keep going up... today was a record high for oil prices, costing over $72 a barrel. iirc, during the last "gas frenzy" gas was generally mid-$60 a barrel, topping out at $70. so this summer is gonna suck. it's mainly because of the tension over iran's nuclear program.

my daily is an STi, which gets high-teens for gas mileage. my dumb@ss is about to buy an FD....

I think the biggest issue with rotaries not being as popular as piston engines is gas mileage. However, people have experimented with piston engines for far more than rotaries. I guess its only a matter of time before the patent expires and other car manufacturers start producing rotaries. Toyorota!

Like the start of thread say Gas Price Bullshit. these ideas of working close to home is not a realistic choice for most people, unless they have disposable jobs like everything else we consume. another theory on gas prices is global warming. the world powers that be, are using gas price hikes as strategy to slow the greenhouse effect down. by consumers not being able to take leisurely vacations, and having normal everyday dependency on gas consumption, they and oil companies can stay in control for a long time,so you don't panic about other issues. Housing cost up for anyone, groceries, wtf!! my 2cents for today. democracy is for those that can buy it, ie. repo cars, houses, land etc.

Can someone please explain to me what the gov't has to do with gas prices? What do they do to lower prices? (besides the obvious answer of rescinding the federal fuel tax you pay per gallon of gasoline purchased)

Thanks for the info.

^^ I think that what rotarycrazy is saying is that the gov't should step in and put a price ceiling on gas prices and therefore force the companies to charge a fair price. Unfortunately, price ceilings are usually not good economic practices - I think, but its been awhile since my last economics class. So, if someone more familiar with that type of thing would care to expound on this a bit, it would be appreciated.

So, to answer the question, as far as I know, the gov't is not directly involved in determining what the price of gas will be. However, some feel that it would be a good idea for the gov't to step in and squash this ridiculous BS pricing.

no i don't think it's peak oil. we have trouble with venezuela producing, and russia, and etc.... because of politics. there is at least a 25 year reserve, that they have now pumping out, and that's not even untapped sources. we get most of our foreign oil from canada 30%. blame china too, they just started using like 20% of world's oil, i think we're at 60%. so maybe we can have a oilwell on each corner instead of 7/11's.

There is now an oil futures etf that you can get into that trades on the futures of oil. You could put lots of money in there if you don't think that this is the top off and make enough money to pay for your gas. Symbol USO

Another etf you may be interested in is IYE - Dow Jones Energy ETF. I've seen significant gains with this. It invests in several top energy companies.

Any broker that deals stocks can get you etfs, they're traded just like stocks - it could effectively brace you against oil company profits and the price of oil.

To counter that I would much rather pay 40% less in gas prices than try to get a 40% return in investing - i guess both are hard now.

And that (investing in futures) is why gas prices go up even though the actual price per barrel does not fluctuate as much. The price is adjusted on SPECULATION. The gas in the ground at the station could have been bought for half what the speculation price is, but they are going to sell it based on what the market price is. It's really wild the way the market is driven by emotion.

the more people work up the situation on gas and the bigger deal that is made, the worse the problem looks, even if its not that bad off. With that being said they will continue to raise the price because they can and they know people will buy it no matter what. lets face it unless you live in walking distance you will buy gas to get to work or school because you have to. i know i willl buy gas until they quit making it cause if not i cant get to work to make money to live on, so people should just deal with it and do somthing about it if they can instead of complaining and speculating of the problems, its just making it worse.

thanks for the stocks tips, but i agree with topless7, that does raise prices. summer blend, unstable countries, "2" refineries closed, war, hurricanes coming, etc. etc, I mean really how much bullshit can you swallow! think about it, the majority of environmental scientist like 80% believe that starting in the year 2200 which your grandkids will see, the average temperture [global] will rise between 3 and 9 degrees! the last time that happened, the greenland glaciers melted and there was global flooding. you have been warned. one day man will pay for things he has done. also seeing increasing tempertures will cause drought conditions like you see in africa in our farmland. the next war i predict will be water based.

If there was a real shortage it would be so HIGH you literally could not buy it and then there would be all kinds of crap going down. just deal with it guys, compaining on here does no good. but keep it up i enjoy reading all this

I've just been doing some conversion calcultions. In The Netherlands we pay 1.56 euro per liter premium. That makes for a stunning 7.28 US Dollar per Gallon. OOPS.
About 75% of that is TAX.
I spend 4 months in the US back in 2000 and every time we went for gas I laughed my *** off.
I still love to drive my vert T2, going to the track today.
