Room for one more? I would like to go up from the Orlando/Tampa area. I'm actually in between and would probably take SR 27 up to Ocala. Is there anyone else comming from this area?

I don't think anyone is going to mind, but I took the liberty of contacting the Gainesville TV stations today. I'll send them a press release on Friday (unless maybe I hear a whole lot of objections.)
Car meets are a dime a dozen, but the press release will talk about the "Group Rev" --- a bunch of rotary engine cars revving their engines in unison. It will make for an appealing visual with a Hooters waitress waving a checkered flag (anyone have one?) in front of a bunch of cars. And of course there will be the sound of this demonstraton of rotary power.
I can't promise we'll get a response, but TV stations are often hard up for news on weekends, and they're always looking for a good human interest story.
The press release will also talk about how unique the rotary engine is and what a hardy and dedicated bunch we rotary engine owners are.
Again, it's a longshot they'll show....but you never know. If you're wanted in three states, it'll be easy to avoid any camera crew that shows up. If they broadcast anything, it's likely to be a short video of the cars doing their synchronized rev up the rpm scale with the anchor-person doing a brief voice over narration.
Don't worry how your car looks. You won't see much detail on the screen, so it doesn't matter if your ride is clean or not, detailed or trashed. It's more important that you be there to be part of the show. The turnout for this event is going to be big, so I expect we'll be making a lot of noise.

Oops, forgot to add this to the itinerary:
12:30 PM The Tampa convoy gets on I-75 North from the Bruce B Downs exit in New Tampa.
The meeting point for the convoy is the Muvico Theater parking lot off Bruce B Downs Blvd.

I'm going to have to pass on that idea. I'm all for getting in for a group picture. But that revving idea just sounds like it would be bad.
I'm also guessing you didn't see the most recent episode of south park with the bikers.

It's basically about how bikers go around on a nice peaceful day outside. Come to a stop and just rev for attention ruing everyone else day.

I must agree with Buddha. Appreciate the enthusiasm...I don't take the time to arrange this for any press or anything of that nature. I do it to spend some time with friends.
I believe the intent behind your idea is good but you have to understand how it would probably be perceived by the media and public. Bunch of cars revving their engines? Yea...people hate that and they automatically equate us with the ricers living in their neighborhoods. You can't educate people with 10 seconds of TV time that you don't control the editing of.
I'll pass on that part...but the enthusiasm is appreciated.

All,
I'm afraid I will be out on this one. Was very excited to see this grow as it did but it looks like I'll be in the hospital with my father-in-law instead. He was diagnosed with colon cancer the beginning of this month and now it looks like chemo will start this weekend. I'll need to be there for him and his family to help get through it.
Sorry I'll miss out on this one. I spoke to Tom yesterday about it and he will still be at the trip.
Take LOTS of pics for me.

But if people don't like the idea, it's not a big deal. That's why I put it out there; to gauge the reaction. The press release hasn't gone out yet, so it's always easier to do nothing instead of something.

If I based my life decisions on episodes of South Park then I'd really be in trouble.

I'd like to point out that I only have two RX7s at my house right now that I'm not currently driving....down from 7 this Summer. Still need to part one and sell the other as a rolling shell.
On a serious note, my attendance may be delayed by an hour or so...something I can't control.

But a lot more profitable than a group rev that only furthers a stereotype rice boy.

Not if you get paid in cartoon money.
But thanks for making my point. You had a sarcastic comment in this little series on South Park. I love sarcastic comments. I make many myself. They're what make forums such as this so entertaining. Then suddenly, you had a reality slap which made my point precisely. Funny how things work out, isn't it? I couldn't have written it better myself. Thanks for the entertainment.

Well I do feel like I'm getting shorted because there was no lewdness involved! =(
Looks like the phone conference is going to be at 12PM so I should just make the 1PM departure time or I'll be right behind you guys! Look forward to meeting all the new faces and friends!
Sucks though...no time to wash the car or put speakers in...at least I'll put the door panels back on! Hahaha!

And I'm still working on my rice-a-roni mobile. I'm almost done with my orange undercar lights (well, I'm not totally tasteless, they're kind of amber.) But I haven't decided on the lights for the wheel wells. I was thinkin' of going with blue.
Whaddya think?
