Florida Rotary Meet, Input welcome!
The Tampa Bay Rotary Owners Club (TBROC) would like to gather input from all Florida rotary groups and owners on creating a well thought out and executed annual rotary meet/Dyno day in the Tampa Bay Area. We are currently looking into Dyno facilities that will be capable of housing a large number of cars, provide adequate facilities, and have available food and lodging nearby. We would like to model this meet after Rotor Fest. We are planning to have a best in Show, dyno competitions for 12a n/a and 12a boosted (turbo, supercharger or spray) and 13b n/a and 13b boosted (turbo, supercharger or spray). A 20b category will be added in the event there are enough 20bs attending. We would like to hold this meet in the Fall in order to provide a slightly better climate for our cars as well as giving everyone enough time to prepare for the trip. We will begin sitting down with local shops on FRIDAY MAY 20th to discuss this idea and would like to have input from you, the participants, and what would make this meet enjoyable and worthwhile for you and your families.
TBROC is also considering the opportunity for various Sponsorship of this event as well as space for vendors.

This would be something I would be pretty interested in. We are close and my wife and I are not picky on just about anything... As long the area is safe to park the car in overnight.
i bet it should be pretty easy to have at least 20 cars show up...
Drawings for prizes are always fun if any sponsors can donate.
I moved down here not too long ago from Oklahoma. One thing they did up there quite often that was always fun was the OKC Police training track was available for rent and track time was pretty cheap. Basically it was a small fee, then small insurance fee. I don't know if anything like that would be available but it is just another idea for things to do...

I appreciate the heads up on the football seasons, as well as the input about the track. Fast holds auto x events nearby, there's a drag strip that runs one saturday evening a month to discourage street racing, and an indoor karting track. So loads to do in the area. We'll hammer out the location and then the date. This is also posted on 4 other sites in the community so it should be a good turnout.

^ Several bridges....
and a few minutes to a racetrack (1/8th mile) and only 25 mins away from a very nice 1/4 mile track. There is alot of activity going on in this area that is sure to have something for everyone. Unfortunately i cant do much on my work system, so i cant see what dates FAST is running, nor can i look at the Street Heat schedule... so Luis if you wanna help me out here and post up the dates for the end of July and August that would give us a better understanding of what we could put together for after the meet.

First i wanna explain what "Street Heat" is.
Once a month on a saturday night Sunshine Speedway makes an event called "street heat" where they basically have the track open from 9pm-2am. You pay $10 to get in, and that also covers your registration and tech-card (wristband) which means that you pay the $10 to get in and you can race at no extra cost. If you just wanna sit down on the bleachers and be a spectator, you can do that as well.
Dates for Street Heat:
Saturday, May 21st 2011
Saturday, June 4th 2011
Saturday, July 16th 2011
Saturday, August 20th 2011
Saturday, September 17th 2011
PLEASE READ: Although the track opens at 9pm, the racing does not begin until about 10pm, mostly cause that's when they prep the track.

We begin sitting down with shops this afternoon and will have more information for you once we have a set facility.

Im ok with pushing it further. Just didnt want school/holidays to cause issues. If everyone would rather do it later in the fall then thats what we will aim for! We want to make this as convient for the rotary community as possible so we need your feedback. Thanks

I agree w gringo. July n August r the warmest months. And can see your concern with the school schedules. How about memorial day weekend? That Saturday? School will definitely be off and it's a 3 day weekend so people can still relax afterwards. Not as hot as previous moths too.

it will be done in the fall. so far, the date that we are strongly considering will give us enough time to get everything ready. we will probably inform everyone of the official date and location by this weekend. we're still trying to talk to shops about dyno pricing and making sure that they have enough space for everyone to park.
