Fayetteville, NC area
I'm trying to gauge interest in starting a "sub-club" (if you will) of the Raleigh area club, in Fayetteville. I know there are alot of guys on Ft Bragg that have 7s and 8s, and quite a few I've seen on Pope too, and anyone else in the surrounding area can join in as well of course. If you guys/gals would like to start this up, let me know what would be a good place and time to meet and we can go from there. Maybe once a month or so we can drive up to Raleigh to meet the club up there, it's just pretty far to drive every other weekend. Eric

Great idea, I know we've had several guys drive up to Raleigh over the last year or so and you've probably got a good number if you can find a nice place to gather and start a group. I found out that you should find a place that is easy for most people to find and pick a time when you think people will be available and try it for a while. We initially had Drive-Ins every Saturday for a month or so just to give people a chance to come out for the first time and find you. You also might post some flyers around Fort Bragg and Pope, the local auto parts stores, and you'll get word out to the RX8 owners by posting at the local Mazda dealership.
Good Luck, great ideal.

I never thought about having the meet every weekend for a while. That's also a great idea about putting the flyers up, never thought of that either. Maybe I can come up with something soon, or maybe I'll start in the spring since winter is coming, haha. I'd try to send a mass email to all of Pope and Ft Bragg but the base Commanders might not be happy with that, haha. Their mistake for not owning a rotary powered car . Thanks for the advice Bert.
I thought rotary owners didn't take their cars to the know-nothing dealerships though , haha.

More on promoting the club and attracting rotary owners to the meets, the business cards we print and pass out to any rotary car we see is a good way of getting word out when you find a car parked somewhere and the owner isn't around. Its also a good way of starting a conversation with the owner when you catch them near their cars in a parking lot, car wash, gas station, pawn shop, massage parlor, bar, police station, etc.
You're also right about waiting until spring, its gonna be kinda hard to get people out during the winter, last winter was our first and attendance really dropped off due to the bad weather and less daylight. I don't know if you're planning on going to the mountains next April for the Tail of the Dragon/Deals Gap Rotary Rally but that would be a good event to generate some interest around Fayeteville and eastern NC for a couple of early meets.

Business cards, that's a great idea. I've been looking for a reason to print some up, haha. Yeah I figure the cold and less daylight will be a downfall of starting this right now, I still want to though, I'm curious to see how many people will show and how enthusiastic they'll be. If the 7 is running, you can bet I'll be at Deal's Gap next year, I'm still pissed about missing it this year. Thanks.

^I think I might know what you're talking about now. Well, I'm either going to start this thing before the end of the month or wait til next Spring but I'm switching over to the Army in May so I'm trying to set it up before then either way.

Cool, now I just gotta get those flyers printed out to post around town and get more people. But we can start laying the groundwork now if we have a few people now. When do you guys want to meet and where? Maybe we can just get together this time to make more solid plans, or we can get a few more people first that way if something doesn't work out for them we can change it. Lemme know what you guys think.

^agreed. The last time I went, some buddy Josh (AntiVenom on here) was trying to come down with his brother and some of his friends but they never made it. That same night there was another guy from the Raliegh group that was running but he broke something before he took off, haha. I'm not laughing at his misfortune, I'm laughing because it seems so par for the course, haha. Let me know the next time you're coming down and I'll meet you out there. I won't be running, my car is nowhere near ready and I'm not even sure I'll ever drag it anyway, mostly just road course and back roads with the occasional streetrace. You guys in Jacksonville are more than welcome to come out, but I'll understand if you don't, it's pretty far from there too. Are you in the Marines by any chance? Do you know Jason? He's got a black FC and he's at Camp Lejuene (sp?).

Hey Eric, glad you're still pursuing the idea of a local rotary group in Fayetteville. If you want to let us know when the first meet will be I am sure we can get a group together to do a weekend drive down that day and maybe conduct a rotary parade around the hotspots in Fayetteville and on Bragg and Pope to stir up some interest. 10-15 RX7s and 8s driving around in formation and stopping in at some of the car parts places or hangouts might at least stir up the locals to getting mobilized and energized. If not we'd all still have fun driving our cars. Freaky Fridays would be a good time too.

^I thought you had a man?! Haha. Yeah Bert, still trying to kick up some interest. I've met a couple more people willing to attend, so this thing looks like a go. I just have to plan when and where. It would be cool if we could do a Freaky Friday and do the drive Saturday but we all know THAT ain't gonna happen. So if you guys wanna come down for Freaky Friday sometime and then a different time on Saturday to do a spirited drive and "parade" for the Fayettevillians. I kinda want it to warm up a little more before meeting though, unless we get a warm Saturday again sometime soon.

and the Freaky Friday/Saturday Drive sounds good... but is your house/apt big enough to accommodate all of us?
Remember... we drive ROTARIES! We don't have money for a HOTEL! LOL I have priorities, man!

punto, just let me know when you're going to Freaky Friday again.
Stina, I'm not sure if my house is big enough but we can sure find out, haha. I'd love to have all the rotary folks stay.

When it's warmer, the first Friday of every month they have an all-nighter out at the track, I think it goes til about 6 or 7am. It's pretty cool if you get a bunch of friends out there. A bunch of guys from my shop go out there pretty much every time. It costs about $10 a person to get in btw.
