2007 Grand Am Races at Barber Motorsports Park - July 19-22

http://www.grand-am.com/Events/Event.asp?ID=203

The Grand Am Cup will be racing at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL the weekend of July 21st. This race will feature all 4 classes of Grand Am Cup cars:
ST and GS class production cars built as race cars with the Koni Challenge:
RX-8, MX-5, RSX, TSX, Cobalt, STR4, BMW 330, Z4, Subaru Legacy, Mini Cooper in ST
Porsche 997, Mustang, 350Z, M3 in GS

GT and Daytona Prototype Purpose Built race cars for the Rolex Racing Series:
RX-8 3-rotor, Porsche GT3 Cup, M3 (V8), Corvette, Pontiac GXP-R & GTO-R in GT
Daytona Prototype with various powertrains.
The Speedsource RX-8's are leading the GT class in points by the way!

There will also be racers you should know there from F1, World Challenge, NASCAR, Indy, etc. At Daytona, I met Juan Pablo Montoya, Tony Stewart, Bobby Lobonte, Jimmie Johnson, & Randy Pobst.

This is a very enjoyable race and the race track is simply beautiful. The Museum alone that Barber has is worth the trip, I spent about 2-3 hours there and missed the beginning of the Sunday race last year because it was so fascinating.

The Saturday race will the GS & GT cars and Sunday will be the Daytona Prototypes and GS cars.
Attached is the Schedule:

The GA RX-8 club as well as many other car clubs will be in attendence. We usually have a car corral and hang out really close to the track and picnic. There are trams which go by and can take you everywhere throughout the track for different viewing locations. This will be my third year going, but this year I'll be on the other side crewing instead of watching. I'll be with Roar Racing again.

Link to purchasing tickets, I'd definitely recommend the paddock passes too:

I hope to see some of you all there. A group trip would be awsome! It isn't very far from Macon & Atlanta. The RX-8 Club has set up a car club with a car corral area right by the track. Here's how to sign up that way with a good discount:

Go to the ticket purchase page at https://www.southtix.com/grandam-tickets.html

You will see the page pictured below:

In the password field type in carclub07 and then "enter"

You will be taken to the following page:

From the drop down box, select "RX8 Club - Georgia", then order your tickets. Don't forget the Paddock Pass. That is free instead of $10. It allows you access to the paddock so you can check out all your favorite race teams and their cars. They are usually pretty open about letting you get close and answering questions.

So, by purchasing your tickets through the GA RX8 Club as described above you get free parking in the corral (and you save $10 which is a huge % off the total ticket price). If we sell the most tickets, we get free parade laps for the club around Barber before the racing begins on Saturday.

Saturday is the power move. Tickets are $38 total (including handling). You get to see the ST Koni Challenge race with mildly prepared street cars like the RX8. You also get top see the GT Rolex race with the 3 rotor SpeedSource RX8.
