NEW PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT: If you have not seen already, we are unveiling new Forged Wheels for the FD. Introducing the RS+ "99 Spec" Mazda RX-7 (17x9.5 +45) FP-Forged Competition Wheels.
You may recognize this wheel from the "99 Spec" Type RS FD from Japan, a truly OEM+ JDM wheel we have always loved. Unfortunately these wheels were only available from Mazda as a staggered 8" and 9" that was a cast factory wheel. After 3D scanning the original, we set to work optimizing this wheel for strength and weight, increasing the width to 9.5", knurled bead seats, and some fantastic new colors, along with the original "Gloss Hyper Silver" color available as well, for a factory appearance. This wheel was used on the late 90's and early 2000's on the RS models across the board (the higher 280HP variant), that came with Bilstein shock absorbers, the 17" RS wheels, larger brakes, dual oil coolers, a subtle black strut tower bar, and the higher spec abradable-seal "99 Spec" twin turbochargers. The curvy and understated 5 spoke design are the cherry on top for any 99 spec bumper conversion, for a sexy period correct OEM+ wheel - complete with better fitment and wider tire options for more grip. The original wheel was 3D scanned and optimized in CAD for increased strength and reduced weight due to the inherent strength benefits of a forged wheel (Stronger and Lighter!). We designed the spoke architecture from the ground up to be compatible with both all of our track-ready brake kits (AP Competition kit and Wilwood Track Day kit), with a wheel that is durable enough for harshest track use. We then increased width to 9.5 inches (+45) for a 255 square tire setup, and added knurled bead seats to prevent tire slip on track! The end result was the truly OEM+ wheel we like to call the RS+!
