Tell me what you think of my hood vents

Looking for honest opinions on my hood vents... What do you all think of this as an option to the aftermarket hoods??? This is a stock hood, just modded. Is anyone else doing this? I wish I saw more of it, but wonder how you all think of it. Don't hold back, you won't hurt my feelings if you don't like it

Been getting by with duct tape. Basically, I don't drive it when it rains, but I've been caught enough times that I went out and bought supplies to make my own carbon fibre covers. THat's on my list of things to do one of these days.

Doesn't look bad, but I would think a little trim bead would make it look a little more 'correct' for the car.

I am actually rather impressed.........from the top it looks like a modded hood that some one took a rather decent amount of time to plan out and stencil out where they wanted to cut it out..........But...when youlook from the under side it's actually cut out along the skeleton of the underside.......Ingenious.....Bravo!!!!..
I give you a 9 out of 10 for ingenuity.....

Let me give credit where it's due... I bought this car as you see it. THe previous owner, Gus, is a paint and body guy who built the car and did the hood himself. I agree that its "ingenious". I've seen this type of mod done to Supras before. People have told me that the vents give the car an "exotic" look, and that they visually signal performance abilities. Then they hear that big single (GT 61 BB, Q) spooling up and blowing off (24 psi) through these passages!!! People pretty much freak out when they hear it.

Thanks for the props! I'd move the thread, but don't know how. Maybe a moderator will take it up.

If I had an FD, Id rock this hood. I belive it's made by FEED.

I like the agressive looks of this hood a lot also. the rest of this car is too over the top for me, but it's not my car.

Never saw that Feed hood before.... I like it! Thanks for droppin it! Functionally speaking, compared to the aftermarket product, I think my hood vents will allow the intake to take in colder air and also more actively flush the air through the engine compartment.

I think your right about you hood alowing more air to flush through the compartment..when the car is moving slow, sitting in traffic, waiting in line to make a drag, or autoX pass.

However, when you are going fast, by fast i mean 60mph+, I belive you would get more air passing through the engine bay using the FEED hood, vs most of the aftermarket or your modified stock piece. The point where the windshield meets the hood (cowl) is a very 'high presure' area. Often the presure at this spot is equal, or nearly equal to the amount of presure on the leading edge of the bumper. This is why you see so many of the old school drag v8 cars running the "cowl induction", or "reverse scoop" type hoods. Im not an aero expert, im just going on what I learned in an automotive design 101 class. so take what i say with a grain of sult.

as for the looks, I strongly belive what makes the FD such a good looking car is it's clean, smooth lines. The FEED hood doesnt take away what so ever from this theme, as so many other aftermarket hoods do.

DAMN! As soon as I saw those pics, I knew that was Gus' old car. I remember one time on the highway, that car flew by me going about 180mph

Oh, keep that hood, it was done right, and I think it looks great on that car

...hah, yeah. I almost bought that car awhile back, but I got deployed and had to leave fast. Was pretty clean and definitly a beast.

The hood vents were a little different I guess but I liked them.

lol... I got *****, but not that large! I'll probably be at the Ann Arbor meet Saturday night. Details on xceedspeed.com. Like to meet you to!

Ever since I bought this car, I've been singing the praises of Gus and MZM. Man did I get lucky when I found this car. I could have bought the biggest piece of **** and not known it until it fell apart, or even worse if Gus had not been what I trusted him to be. They built a reliable beast that was better than new condition. Check it out... I just had MZM spec out a new turbo that would really make it scream, and they flew up here last week to tune it for me. It'll reach top speed a little faster now!

Looks Ok... but I agree with the person that said the cuts need to be finished off... sort of like when you put in molding when you put in a floor... it makes it look finished and neat... without, it looks incomplete and almost hacked together.

Good job,
but why you didn't made the hole more on the center just where is the intercooler to vent it more???
Like this its look like the air as not a smoot way out thru the intercooler.
May be i wrong and you right anyway

As for the "hacked" comments, I suspect maybe the picture doesn't do it justice. In person, you may or may not still get a "hacked" impression. I'm not sure. The previous owner, Gus, was a paint and body shop pro, and the edges are so perfect and clean that when you see it in person, you don't perceive an unfinished edge that needs moulding around it. I'm still thinking about it all.... maybe a moulding would be a good touch, but trust me when you see it that it doesn't leave a "hacked" impression.

As for the location of the vents, I don't think you'd get any better flow by placing them towards the middle. Right behind the intercooler is another radiator with fans blowing forward. I think that air entering through the two front mount oil coolers and the intercooler creates positive pressure in the engine bay that is relivied through the hood vents, regardless of where they placed. Just my guess.

Thanks to all for taking the time to comment. I'm seriously haven't ruled out some kind of trim around them.

Dude, sorry to hear it! What specifically didn't meet your expectations? Was it the quality of the work or overall how it feels for your car? If there are any, is it too late to correct any imperfections in the cut lines? Could a trim moulding smooth things out for you?

I was told that this job looks a lot easier than it really is; I don't know, maybe that's true. Post up some pics for us.
