Some guys use Hoosiers and what not. There are a couple reasons they don't really use them though.
One being Advan/Yokohama, Dunlop, Toyo etc sponsor a lot of the events, Hoosiers etc are expensive here, they have run S tires for awhile so they like to compete with S tires to compare their times with others peoples times on S tires.
The guys that run in actual race series run hoosiers and the other full slick tires. The guys that are weekend time attack warriors like to run a tire that they can use on the street and the track although most of their cars are far from street legal.
I have asked the same question as you many times and I have yet to come up with a 100% logical reason. For the most part they seem to be settled in their ways of using S tires.

tires don't make you break **** if you aren't launching the car.
That car DESPERATELY needs more tire.
255/265, wtf. And not even an R or slick.
That makes the time all that much more impressive I suppose.
