Not bad for a car that had to drive 1500 miles over the course of the week during the Hot Rod Drag Week Competition.

 

That's movin out... That's on pump gas correct? I know that he's been competing in the pump gas drags.

 

I believe it was on pump gas, as that is what they are tuned for. I know that pump gas was not required for this competition...but seeing as they literally drove 1500 miles throughout the week (and I doubt they retuned each day between pump/race gas) and he's run mid 8s on pump gas before, it makes sense to me that it would be on pump gas. Pretty nuts huh?

i think i saw his car in a hot rod magazine recently. 8.2s in a street car are fast no matter what gas you use. or engine...

Well, maybe V8Killa's car on slicks.....
But that would have to be on race gas and with Crispeed driving.
I think that red 4 rotor FD that ran low 10s was pretty impressive. Very driveable and a true street car.
I know, I'll boost my car to like 40 psi and run into the 8s It'll blow up on the first pass, but it's been daily driven for the last 2 years, so does that count?

Yes that would count, I can keep a secret.

 

Just a big radiator...they run an air/water intercooler that is actually inside the dash of the car. The piping routes through the firewall into the intercooler, then back out the firewall to the intake manifold...which is mounted reverse with the TB next to the firewall. Reading s--- like this has made this grown man cry. just sold my FD this week on the forum and I have to read things like this to remind myself why I love these f----- cars so much. awsome video, can't emagine the rush being behind the wheel at that speed in 8 secounds.

check out this 12a turbo rx3 in oz that runs a 9" tire...best times are 8.1's and he does it all day long...its not 100% streetable but it hauls *** for being a 12a

Thats pretty impressive out of a little 12A. You're right though, not exactly streetable...but very impressive. I wonder what the race weight of that little car is? I know the Hinson car doesn't really have much weight reduction done. They have the back tubbed a little to fit the larger tires, but it has door panels, full dash, etc. I would imagine its race weight is in the 2700lb range, and I've heard it makes around 1300hp.

 

I will give the car a great deal of respect for it to still be streetable. That is crazy to run eights in a street car. The 12a is an insanely fast car as well, but those who doubt the 12a's capabilities clearly haven't seen one like that. They are great engines.

 

Streetable and street legal - 2 different things. As we can see with Eric's car, if your willing to take just about everything out of the car and reduce it to driving something made 40 years ago (no power steering, no a/c, interior piece gutted) AND the driver doesn't mind this, then the car is streetable to him, but not many others. Impressed by the car, but NOT streetable in my eyes since I wouldn't be driving it in hot weather or any chance of rain.

Well the Mazfix street FD RX-7 ran 8.90@158mph this weekend at the jambooree in Aussie. I believe the best time before was in the low 9's. This car is not tubbed still running IRS with street 'ET's and not full slicks.

Seriously though, thats an awesome time. I'd like to see their setup. Whats so impressive about the Hinson car is that its not that its a "street" car like so many people catagorize these race cars. He runs those times on 93 octane and drove the car 1500 miles that week inbetween racing. There aren't that many cars out there that can do something like that. Most of these "street" cars are stripped down race cars running on 116 octane fuel that would never dream of driving 1500 miles a week. Sure they are legal to drive on the street...but could they actually handle all those miles? Not many that are capable of running low 8s.

PS-Not saying the Mazfix car couldn't...I don't know anything about that car...I would like to see some more info on it though. Sounds pretty badass.
