RX7 Vs. R34 Skyline

meh.. now days the rx-7's cheaper, and i think better performance, skyline is more expensive, and nobody knows how to work on hardly, and the only advantage it has over the 7 is the AWD.. thats the only thing i adore about the skyline.. bastard takes off like a bad outta hell.

Skyline as a daily beater, Rx7 for racing/keep the miles off it.
I had the chance to drive an R34 GT-S, R33 GT-R, and R34 GT-R, the GT-S feels like a RWD Altima, very smooth and easy to drive with not that much power. The GT-Rs feel a lot more brutal but takes some effort to drive and master. Raced the R33 GT-R (stock) vs an RB25 S14 and kept up, raced it against an EVO 9 with bolt ons and it was even (2nd gear roll), However, when i worked at nissan, i raced an 07 350Z and i was slaughtered on the freeway. The new VQHR Zs are pretty fast for the money.
I drove my friends 94 FD R-2 With 99 spec twins and a 93 Single Turbo FD, i loved the maxed out Twins everytime. Power, handling, and great driving feel. The FD just brings a smile everytime i drive it. The single turbo FD was maybe faster, but i just did not feel it, it was way too peaky for my tastes. Turbo was a T04Z.
But, The availability of skyline parts/resources and tuning knowledge has greatly improved in the states, and especially in southern california. A good friend of mine who is here tuning cars used to be an ex-nismo engine builder building group A GTRs, and worked at nismo omori factory for 5 years. He also ran a shop in japan called garage bomber, and has a purple R32 thats worth 950-1100 whp depending on tune here in the states. 2 big nissan dealerships here also stock a lot of the SR and RB parts and tend to have a lot of the engine/maintanance parts always in stock.
FD > Skyline for sports
Highway flier/Daily driver Skyline > FD.
What would i have for all? FD
What do i intend to have? an FD and an R32 GTR as a beater.

GTR
-more traction (which quickly becomes a limiting factor above 500rwhp) out of corners and in a straight line thanks to 4wd
-much more practical if the steering wheel was on the right side
On the other hand, I have never driven one, but I bet the RX7 is more fun. The RX7 also looks more unique.

R34 GTR > Fd any day of the week.
stop being a 7 nuthugger and look at it the performance way.
a skyline hard to work on ??? you obviously dont have a clue.

Well on tsukuba Circuit right now, the HKS EVO is the fastest, then the M-Speed R34 and then the R magic FD3S. On the touge challenge, the FD and S2000 pretty much ripped everyone a new one. Wangan, R34 and FDs are pretty equal depending on tuning, and a lot of other factors (The Supras are highway conquerors) . The Skyline will be faster on a higher speed track, but tighter tracks/canyons the Rx7 has the edge depending on tuning style.

in aus the rx7 is held in much higher regard than an r34 gtt. It's considered to be a rival to the gtr's, and the prices reflect this. You can get r34 gtt's for around 25 grand but the s8 rx7's are still up near 35 grand

Not disagreeing but keep in mind how common skylines over here for every 99+spec FD there are 5 R24's. There are about 3 sellers to every one buyer at the moment and prices reflect this

My previous car was an R32 GTR. Having owned that as well as my current car, an FD I can draw some sort of an insight on this matter.
The GTR was great for 1/4 mile stuff, but the car is really heavy. I can tell the difference. I can feel the FD's lightness. Also, the FD feels more naturally balanced. I have nothing but love for each car, and would definately own another GTR if I came across one for the right price

if money is no object, the skyline is a better platform bar none. but for around 400-450hp? I think I'll keep the 7, it's just as good for the street, but the skyline sets faster laps at almost every track. I think I'll take both. I was actually looking at getting an r32 gt-r, outta canada and registering it here. (North Dakota is like the easiest state to import cars to, there's no smog laws, all you have to do is angle the headlights to the right.)

If money was not an issue, there would be a lot of other cars that are faster than the GTR. AKA Exige, M3, or Porsche, or NSX.
The FD is a great car for the money, and with just a few modifications can be faster and have way better driving feel than a GTR. Go to youtube and watch RE AMEMIYAs 380 hp FD destroy MCRs 600+ R34 on the Touge Challenge. The R34 is a GREAT chassis and does better on bigger tracks or midsize tracks. With the right tuning however, and chassis setup, the FD can just be formidable to reckon with.
Wangan, Track, Touge, and drift in all 3 areas.

R34 GTR
Only because the GTR awd system is no joke. Mated with the RB26 engine, and you have a pure beast.
The RB26 has assloads of potential and capable of insane hp. Plus the R34 body screams japanese muscle. Some people who dislike should see the car in real life (which i have) and you'll soon have a change of heart about them. It looks wayy muscular in person.
Id get the FD for pure track though but GTR for everything else. Highway killer, rarity, dependability, power potential etc.

Well, the Rx7 still layed a beating on the R34.

I drove an R34 GTR V SPEC (non VSPEC II or NUR) Bone stock, the car felt great, but it still understeers. Even more than the R33 GTR. If i had to pick a GTR, i would still have an R34 and then R32 next. But a sports car spirit, the Rx7 easily has.

R34 GTR is great ..looks awesome , can make a lot of power ....but the money that you have to put into that sucker !!.
parts will be a bitch , so ....the 4WD is what gets my vote though ......yeah i could use some traction .......
