My first time drifting (comments welcome)

Here we go... The 240SX at the end of the video won the competition by linking every corner in the finals. The guy is good. Anyways:

Comments and suggestions welcome. I pretty much used the e-brake all day, except for the S-turns where my momentum and a slight touch of the brake pedal was all that was needed to get the car completly sideways.

Is the car open diff? It kinda looked like it by the way it acts at the exit of a turn. I used to drive like that when learning to drift with an open diff. When u get lsd, or if you already do, you'll notice a huge difference. You could go a little faster in some turns, but overall it wasn't bad for beginning. Keep going to the track and have fun man.

Not bad mang. Why dont you try some weight trans? Get away from using the ebrake to intiate drifts, its only ok to use it to maintain. not too shabby for a n'a either. Good luck bro

Thanks guys. Yeah, the car has an open diff. I've spotted a GXL in a local junkyard with an intact rear end. Next paycheck, if it's still there I'm pulling the LSD pronto. I think the GXL is an 87, and my car is an 88 so it should bolt right in.

wait, if its an 88GXL, it should already have LSD... Check on the Rear for a Tag...
Does your car for sure have 4pot calps on the front?

BTW, your a lucky bastard for having an actual track to go to... lol overall nice drifting for a beginner(im a "ginner" too)

No, my car is an SE. The junkyard car with the LSD is a GXL. And my car doesn't have the 4 piston calipers either. But, when I get my 5-lug conversion in the next couple months, I will be putting the 4 piston calipers on at the same time. Along with slotted rotors, hawk pads, and SS braided lines.

haha I knew it was open diff by the way it drives. It's cool though cause it's a good way to learn. You can easily drift these cars with open diffs, but you can't do hold the drift at the exit for long cause it wants to straighten out. Good job though. Keep practicing.....seeing the vid makes me want to come to your area, all the way from the bay area to drift. As of now there are no drift events up here! :/

Yeah, good thing is though that the track has no walls to hit.

That track looks pretty badass. You did pretty good considering what you had to work with.

No suspension mods yet, but before the next event on July 9th the car will be sitting on K-Sport coilovers.

as they said earlier, work on using throttle input and weight transfer to initiate your slide. Then once you are in your slide feather the throttle as needed and steer to keep it going. I'm no drifting by any means, however; growing up driving on dirt roads you learn how to slide and keep it straight, lol! you did awesome though, keep it up, wish we had something like that track.

i cant really tell from the vid but i believe its possible to drift any FR are there is diff or not lsd or not....
you are using e-brake and kinda power overing corners right?
try kicking the revs up a lil heal toe entering the corner....with clutch kicking and faster counter sterring to maintain the rev/power up that way when you exit the corner you dont "stop" and have to accelerate again

(i dont really know how to say it but iuno pratice makes perfect! just somewhere along those lines i guess)

Im no pro so this may be wayyy off, but isnt "heal toe" used when EXITING a corner to bring rpm's up and drop a gear to you down bog down....

it also helps to brake loose the tires to get the car into the drift
