I was watching this vid...
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...86141998092645
and I was wondering, as the night set in, it looked like the rotors were glowing... Do the brakes on these cars really get THAT hot?
Sorry for what may seem to be a stupid question. Don't watch much racing..

AAAh memories!!! I was in the pits for that race. It was quite a sad moment in my life when the Amemiya FD came limping down pit lane. The driver (forgot his name) jumped out of the car and started arguing with the Taisan crew (the Taisan driver knocked him out of the race).
Being able to spend the entire day with JGTC drivers and pit crews will forever be etched in my memory. The Japanese are the most hospitible people. My buddies and I couldn't leave the pits, cuz if we did, we wouldn't have been able to make it back. The Cusco team fed us and made sure we had plenty of water. I couldn't believe our fortune. (Hope this isn't a hi jack, my appologies if so)
The brakes are made of composite materials that opperate at their prime when they reach a high temp. (a temp that would fry any street brakes). In the pits, when the crew would change the tires, you could see all four rotors smoking the entire time, so yes they do indeed get pretty damn hot.
That vid took me back, but Jesus did it suck. It gave me a headache. The glorious music of the cars was masked by the rap song and the editing was just too wild. Good post though, I love JGTC.

not merely the brakes get red, so does the engine. My friends back then love to race at night (Street racing) And they found out that the brakes glows red/orange unlike those in the video, and they also placed a small tiny video camera in the engine bay as they raced... and it came out that the whole engine glows =D Pretty interesting
