I think yahoo actually has a group for this, it is like "DIY gas turbines" or something. Cant remember, hell we built this thing of a diagram i drew up on the back of a napkin over two years ago. They say if you run them on propane they are very easy to tune but nothing will get you results like diesel!!!

Yeah that's RX3-13B and I's next project. I assure you that this thing is very loud, especially with the afterburner on(just ask the neighbours). We are limited to how much thrust (and noise!) we can make by the size of turbo we can find, but with a pulse jet we can go as big as we want!!

i've been curious how much thrust does a gas turbine have compared to a pulse-jet.

That sounds about right. JP-8, i.e. what we fuel the AF aircraft with is basically Diesel. All our ground equipment is supposed to run on diesel and we use JP-8.

We started off running (or at least trying to) gasoline. Then we went to kerosene, after that we tried diesel with outstanding results (actually too good, we overspooled the first turbo) after that we ran it on a mixture of 50% jet-A 50% diesel. That was the best compromise between insane heat and power. We didn't have any kerosene this time so we just ran it on straight diesel. We have also been talking about using a "augmenter" after the discharge nozzle. Basically it turns the outlet into a ram jet and the limit of the thrust with that is the amount of air and fuel that you can shove into it!!!

My ship has gas turbines. We use diesel fuel for them along with the diesel generators. Of course, instead of using exhaust gases for thrust, we use them to drive a power turbine with spins the reduction gears. Great power-to-weight ratio but a gas hog. We used 4500 gals of F-76 (diesel) in about 1 1/2 hours last week.

WOW!! 4500 gals in 1.5 hrs, and I thought the rate in which ours goes through 5gals was bad!
